Addendum to paper: Strong-Coupling Behavior of ϕ4\phi^4-Theories and Critical Exponents [Phys. Rev. D 57, 2264 (1998)]

The graphical extrapolation procedure to infinite order of variational perturbation theory in a recent calculation of critical exponents of three-dimensional ϕ4\phi^4-theories at infinite couplings is improved by another way of plotting the results.Comment: Author Information under http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/~kleinert/institution.html . Constant lift rotor for a heavier than air craft

    Get PDF
A rotor blade extended radially from a hub, characterized by an elongated spar and a plurality of axially aligned shells pivotally mounted on the spar is presented. Each has an aerodynamic center located in trailing relation with the spar and supported thereby for simultaneous axial and angular displacement as centrifugal forces are applied, a pitch controller plus a plurality of pivotal pitch limiting arms transversely related to the spar. A push-pull link interconnecting the arms is used for imparting simultaneous pivotal motion, whereby the angular relationship of the arms to the spar is varied for varying the motion of the trucks along the arms for thus limiting the pitch of the segments about the spar

    Deployable lattice column

    Get PDF
Lattice column, made up of many individually collapsible sections connected in tandem, rapidly raises measuring instruments to a level appreciably above that where data is to be recorded and evaluated. The column may be collapsed by collapsing each section in sequence and is deployed by extending each section in sequence

    Noncontacting-optical-strain device

Noncontacting-strain-measuring gauge and extensometer remotely measures the mechanical displacement along the entire length of a test specimen. Measurement is accomplished by continuous scanning of a reflected light from reflective bench markings or stripes previously affixed to the specimen

A historical perspective on Modified Newtonian Dynamics

    Get PDF
I review the history and development of Modified Newtonian Dynamics (MOND) beginning with the phenomenological basis as it existed in the early 1980s. I consider Milgrom's papers of 1983 introducing the idea and its consequences for galaxies and galaxy groups, as well as the initial reactions, both negative and positive. The early criticisms were primarily on matters of principle, such as the absence of conservation laws and perceived cosmological problems; an important step in addressing these issues was the development of the Lagrangian-based non-relativistic theory of Bekenstein and Milgrom. This theory led to the development of a tentative relativistic theory that formed the basis for later multi-field theories of gravity. On an empirical level the predictive success of the idea with respect to the phenomenology of galaxies presents considerable challenges for cold dark matter. For MOND the essential challenge remains the absence of a generally accepted theoretical underpinning of the idea and, thus, cosmological predictions. I briefly review recent progress in this direction. Finally I discuss the role and sociology of unconventional ideas in astronomy in the presence of a strongly entrenched standard paradigm.Comment: 25 pages, 9 figures, previous uploaded file was out of date, Canadian Journal of Physic

F(R) cosmology via Noether symmetry and lambda-Chaplygin Gas like model

In this work, we consider F(R) alternative theories of gravity with an eye to Noether symmetry through the gauge theorem. For non-vacuum models, one finds {\Lambda} like gravity with energy density of Chaplygin Gas. We also obtain the effective equation of state parameter for corresponding cosmology and scale factor behavior with respect to cosmic time which show that the model provides viable EoS and scale factor with respect to observational data.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

    Resiting French resistance

    Get PDF
Exceptions, minorities, non-conformities, individual refusals and small group actions, these are words with which historians of the French Resistance learn to live. The words allow social detail to flourish, but they stand in the way of general social conclusions and question the kind of class representation which seems so convincing in René Clément's film of the resistance of railway workers, La Bataille du rail (1946), but which cannot be sustained for the working class as a whole. Is there a social history of the Resistance? Are all generalities suspect? The French nation as a category is far too large, so is the working class, and equally so the bourgeoisie and the peasantry: it has often been argued that social and political categorisation of the Resistance is nothing but a captivating mirage, tantalising every new interpreter who sets out to give much needed structure to empirical research

Influence of Thresher Cylinder Speed and Grain Moisture at Harvest on Milling Yield of Rice

    Get PDF
The percentage of broken rice (Oryza sativa) kernels was determined after threshing the grain at varying cylinder speeds of the thresher and moisture contents of the grain at harvest. Moisture contents of the individual grain samples ranged from 12 to 26% and the two cylinder speeds were 600 and 1000 RPM. Significant differences between germplasm, cylinder speed and moisture content of the grain at harvest on milling yield was observed. For example, Newbonnet had the fewest broken kernels while Leah had the greatest amount of broken kernels. Lemont produced the highest total milling yield; whereas, L202 produced the lowest total milling yield. Newbonnet produced the highest and Leah produced the lowest head rice yield. Percentage of broken kernels approximately doubled when the cylinder speed was increased from 600 to 1000 RPM. Generally there was a significant increase in the percentage of broken kernels as the moisture content of the grain at harvest decreased
