Point Spread Function For Elliptical Aperture Inclined at ^/4 angle with x-axis

    Get PDF
Point spread function (PSF) for inclined elliptical aperture with an angle equal to p/4 with x-axis has been studied, by taking new coordinates m and n which are rotated by an angle p/4 to x and y- axes. The properties of the obtained image have been found in different cases, for diffraction limited system and different types of aberrations, like focus error, spherical aberration and coma aberration

Characteristics of Cµ2 derived from ultrasonic anemometer in an urban boundary layer

Fast-response observations of three components of wind and air temperature have been applied to calculate the refractive index function coefficient (Cµ2 ), which is needed to describe optical wave propagation in a turbulent medium. These were measured by 3D ultrasonic anemometer installed on the roof of the building of Atmospheric Science Department which is 19 m above ground level. Refractive index function coeffi cient was calculated for various periods of three seasons: winter, spring and summer.Diurnal variations of (Cµ2) have been made at the surface layer for these seasons. The results show that high values ofmean (Cµ2) occurred during the day time more than at night, also they occurred more in summer than in winter and spring. The results of (Cµ2) found to change with atmospheric stability, whereas they inversely decrease under unstable conditions, approximately constant at neutral cases, and increase under stable conditions. Values of (Cµ2) on average appears to be lower during the rainy and foggy weather cases compared to those of clear sky

Determination of total phenol, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of Avena sativa and Ocimum basilicum

The present study investigated the total content of phenolic compounds, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of water extracts oat (Avena sativa) and basil (Ocimum basilicum), medicinal plants. The Folin-ciocalteu reagent assay was used to estimate the total phenolic content of plants extract. The antioxidant capacity of the plants extract was tested by ferric reducing/antioxidant power Assay (FRAP) and ferric reducing scavenging activity using DPPH method, and the antimicrobial activity was measured against [Staphylococcus epidermidis; Staphylococcus aureus; Proteus spp.; Klebsiella spp.; Escherichia coli; Candida albicans] as tester strains. The total phenolic content of Avena sativa and Ocimum basilicum extracts revealed that the mixture of plants showed higher content. The mixture of Avena sativa and Ocimum basilicum extracts showed the highest antioxidant capacity followed by Avena sativa extract and Ocimum basilicum extract with FRAP and DPPH assay. However, mixture of Avena sativa and Ocimum basilicum extracts exhibited the highest antimicrobial activity when compared to the other extracts. Thus the study revealed that the consumption of mixture herbs may enhance the immune power of our body against diseases due to free radicals

Traffic Noise in Arterial Streets: Case of Kirkuk City

    Get PDF
Loud noise can be extremely harmful to the auditory system as well as to human health. Noise pollution is primarily caused by traffic noise. The study's goal was to determine how various vehicle types and speeds affected the amount of noise generated by traffic. The two factors were investigated at seven different arterial streets throughout Kirkuk city to measure the noise levels. The measurements were performed during peak hours to compare the result with WHO standards for noise specification. Traffic volume and vehicle speed are shown to be the key elements that determine an increase in noise level.

DeepRank: Adapting Neural Tensor Networks for Ranking the Recommendations

Online real estate property portals are gaining great attraction from masses due to ease in finding properties for rental or sale/purchase. With a few clicks, a real estate portal can display relevant information to a user by ranking the searched items according to user’s specifications. It is highly significant that the ranking results display the most relevant search results to the user. Therefore, an efficient ranking algorithm that takes user’s context is crucial for enhancing user experience in finding real estate properties online. This paper proposes an expressive Neural Tensor Network to rank the properties when searched for based on the similarity between the two property entities. Previous similarity techniques do not take into account the numerous complex features used to define a property. We showed that the performance can be enhanced if the property entities are represented as an average of their constituting features before finding the similarity between them. The proposed method takes into account each feature dynamically and ranks properties according to similarity with an accuracy of 86.6%

Implementation and evaluation of a social media-based communication strategy to enhance employee engagement: Experiences from a children\u27s hospital, Pakistan

Social media can complement organizational communication strategy which is integral to employee engagement. However, successful case studies which can allow replication are limited. The objective of the study is to describe the design, implementation, and evaluation of a social media-based communication strategy in a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan. The leadership of the pediatric service line developed an intervention plan to engage the employees with the newly reframed vision to improve patient and family experience. An online communication platform-Facebook page-was created for all employees of the pediatric service line. The strategy to influence employees was based on Cialdini\u27s six principles of persuasion. Implementation of the strategy between October 2017 and December 2019 was evaluated for reach, discussion themes, and outcomes using the framework by Murdough (2009). Quantitative indicators included total posts, mean comments, and reactions per post. Posts were qualitatively analyzed with an emergent approach for insights into the discussion. The analysis revealed a total of 9,085 posts, with mean reactions per post of 8.4, mean comments of 7.2, and active viewership by 90% members on average. In terms of post types, photos were the highest (4,779), while videos were the lowest (1,163). Qualitative analysis indicated 54% of the posts were of the theme inspirational and thought provoking, while the greatest engagement was generated on the theme challenges and solution. The authors conclude that the strategy was successfully implemented to maintain active membership, engage employees in meaningful conversations, and have them express intent to execute quality improvement projects

The presence of lactobacilli were investigated in the intestine of 50 fish specimens common carp cyprinus carpio weight rang between 400-1500g in weight from commercial farms in north of Baghdad through period of September to December 2010. All isolates were Gram positive ,catalase negative short rod usually non motile and non sporulating bacteria that produce lactic acid as a major or sole product of their fermentative metabolism. The obtained data showed that various species of lactic acid bacteria were found with high levels in total number about 104-107CFU/g of intestinal content, physiological and biochemical characteristics of 8 strains isolated from intestine J1, J3, J4, J6, J7, J8, J9, J10 that can be categorized in two metabolic group facultative and obligate heterofermentation ,also all isolates were resistante to all antibiotic sensitivity OA2A –p Disc except isolates J1, J3, J4, J8, J9 were sensitive to erythromycin in concentration 60mcg .The aim of this study was to characterize of lactic acid bacteria isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of common carp Cyprinus carpio to be used as probiotic
