Quantum singularities in spherically symmetric, conformally static spacetimes
A definition of quantum singularity for the case of static spacetimes has
recently been extended to conformally static spacetimes. Here the theory behind
quantum singularities in conformally static spacetimes is reviewed, and then
applied to a class of spherically symmetric, conformally static spacetimes,
including as special cases those studied by Roberts, by Fonarev, and by Husain,
Martinez, and N\'u\~nez. We use solutions of the generally coupled, massless
Klein-Gordon equation as test fields. In this way we find the ranges of metric
parameters and coupling coefficients for which classical timelike singularities
in these spacetimes are healed quantum mechanically.Comment: 21 pages, no figure
MRI changes in psoriatic dactylitisextent of pathology, relationship to tenderness and correlation with clinical indices
Objectives. To quantify the extent of inflammation in psoriatic dactylitis and to examine the relationship between clinical and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data in both tender and non-tender dactylitis.
Methods. Seventeen patients with psoriatic dactylitis underwent clinical assessment for 6 months after change of treatment, usually to methotrexate. Measures of dactylitis included the Leeds Dactylitis Index, the assessment tool used in the Infliximab in Psoriatic Arthritis Clinical Trial (IMPACT), a simple count of tender dactlylitic digits and a count of all dactylitic digits, both tender and non-tender. MRI scans of the affected hand or foot were performed before and after treatment using a 1.5T Siemens scanner pre- and post-contrast.
Results. All patients improved clinically, as did their respective dactylitis scores and MRI images. The findings on MRI in both dactylitic and non-dactylitic digits were profound and widespread. The difference between tender and non-tender dactylitis was quantitative rather than qualitative. Synovitis and soft-tissue oedema were the most frequent abnormalities being present in 69 of tender dactylitic digits but bone oedema and flexor tenosynovitis were also frequently seen. Soft-tissue oedema was circumferential and enhancing and not limited to association with the flexor or extensor tendons. None of the clinical indices of dactylitis showed a close relationship to the extent of MRI abnormalities.
Conclusions. MRI images demonstrate widespread abnormalities in digits of people with psoriatic arthritis. Tender dactylitic digits have more abnormalities than other digits but the relationship between clinical and MRI scores is not strong
Are classically singular spacetimes quantum mechanically singular as well?
Are the classical singularities of general relativistic spacetimes, normally
defined by the incompleteness of classical particle paths, still singular if
quantum mechanical particles are used instead? This is the question we will
attempt to answer for particles obeying the quantum mechanical wave equations
for scalar, null vector and spinor particles. The analysis will be restricted
to certain static general relativistic spacetimes that classically contain the

Definition and classification of singularities in GR: classical and quantum
We will briefly review the definition and classification of classical and
quantum singularities in general relativity. Examples of classically singular
spacetimes that do not have quantum singularities will be given. We will
present results on quantum singularities in quasiregular spacetimes. We will
also show that a strong repulsive "potential" near the classical singularity
can turn a classically singular spacetime into a quantum mechanically

Carboplatin binding to a model protein in non-NaCl conditions to eliminate partial conversion to cisplatin, and the use of different criteria to choose the resolution limit
Hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) co-crystallisation conditions of carboplatin
without sodium chloride (NaCl) have been utilised to eliminate partial
conversion of carboplatin to cisplatin observed previously. Tetragonal HEWL
crystals were successfully obtained in 65% MPD with 0.1M citric acid buffer at
pH 4.0 including DMSO. The X-ray diffraction data resolution to be used for the
model refinement was reviewed using several topical criteria together. The
CC1/2 criterion implemented in XDS led to data being significant to 2.0{\AA},
compared to the data only being able to be processed to 3.0{\AA} using the
Bruker software package (SAINT). Then using paired protein model refinements
and DPI values based on the FreeR value, the resolution limit was fine tuned to
be 2.3{\AA}. Interestingly this was compared with results from the EVAL
software package which gave a resolution limit of 2.2{\AA} solely using
crossing 2, but 2.8{\AA} based on the Rmerge values (60%). The
structural results showed that carboplatin bound to only the N{\delta} binding
site of His-15 one week after crystal growth, whereas five weeks after crystal
growth, two molecules of carboplatin are bound to the His-15 residue. In
summary several new results have emerged: - firstly non-NaCl conditions showed
a carboplatin molecule bound to His-15 of HEWL; secondly binding of one
molecule of carboplatin was seen after one week of crystal growth and two
molecules were bound after five weeks of crystal growth; and thirdly the use of
several criteria to determine the diffraction resolution limit led to the
