Involvement of the specific nucleolar protein SURF6 in regulation of proliferation and ribosome biogenesis in mouse NIH/3T3 fibroblasts
The nucleolar proteins which link cell proliferation to ribosome biogenesis are regarded to be potentially oncogenic. Here, in order to examine the involvement of an evolutionary conserved nucleolar protein SURF6/Rrp14 in proliferation and ribosome biogenesis in mammalian cells, we established stably transfected mouse NIH/3T3 fibroblasts capable of conditional overexpression of the protein. Cell proliferation was monitored in real-time, and various cell cycle parameters were quantified based on flow cytometry, Br-dU-labeling and conventional microscopy data. We show that overexpression of SURF6 accelerates cell proliferation and promotes transition through all cell cycle phases. The most prominent SURF6 pro-proliferative effects include a significant reduction of the population doubling time, from 19.8±0.7 to 16.2±0.5 hours (t-test, p<0.001), and of the length of cell division cycle, from 17.6±0.6 to 14.0±0.4 hours (t-test, p<0.001). The later was due to the shortening of all cell cycle phases but the length of G1 period was reduced most, from 5.7 ±0.4 to 3.8 ±0.3 hours, or by ∼30%, (t-test, p<0.05). By Northern blots and qRT-PCR, we further showed that the acceleration of cell proliferation was concomitant with an accumulation of rRNA species along both ribosomal subunit maturation pathways. It is evident, therefore, that like the yeast homologue Rrp14, mammalian SURF6 is involved in various steps of rRNA processing during ribosome biogenesis. We concluded that SURF6 is a novel positive regulator of proliferation and G1/S transition in mammals, implicating that SURF6 is a potential oncogenic protein, which can be further studied as a putative target in anti-cancer therapy

: Gender differences in STEMI
International audienceBACKGROUND: Gender differences in presentation, management and outcome in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) have been reported. AIM: To determine whether female gender is associated with higher inhospital mortality. METHODS: Data from ORBI, a regional STEMI registry of 5 years' standing, were analysed. The main data on presentation, management, inhospital outcome and prescription at discharge were compared between genders. Various adjusted hazard ratios were then calculated for inhospital mortality (women versus men). RESULTS: The analysis included 5000 patients (mean age 62.6±13 years), with 1174 women (23.5%). Women were on average 8 years older than men, with more frequent co-morbidities. Median ischaemia time was 215 minutes (26 minutes longer in women; P<0.05). Reperfusion strategies in women less frequently involved fibrinolysis, coronary angiography, radial access and thrombo-aspiration. Female gender, especially in patients aged<60 years, was associated with poorer inhospital prognosis (including higher inhospital mortality: 9% vs. 4% in men; P<0.0001), and underutilization of recommended treatments at discharge. Moreover, excess female inhospital mortality was independent of presentation, revascularization time and reperfusion strategy (hazard ratio for women 1.33, 95% confidence interval 1.01-1.76; P=0.04). CONCLUSIONS: One in four patients admitted for STEMI was female, with significant differences in presentation. Female gender was associated with less-optimal treatment, both in the acute-phase and at discharge. Efforts should be made to reduce these differences, especially as female gender was independently associated with an elevated risk of inhospital mortality

International audienceDieser Artikel untersucht die Besonderheiten des Kochunterrichts in der Hotelfachschule und konzentriert sich dabei auf die unterschiedlichen Einstellungen und Argumente, die von den Lehrkräften mobilisiert werden. Wir untersuchen das Kochstudio als hybriden Ausbildungsort zwischen schulischem und beruflichem Raum und stellen den Lehrer oder die Lehrerin in den Mittelpunkt der Analyse. Wir beobachten, wie er oder sie sich zwischen zwei Persönlichkeiten mit unterschiedlichen oder sogar gegensätzlichen Methoden behaupten muss : dem Lehrer oder der Lehrerin und dem Küchenchef oder der Küchenchefin.The aim of this article is to study specificities of teaching cook in hospitality school, focusing analysis on ranges and positions used by studied teachers. Studying the workshop as hybrid formation space, between didactic and professional area, we would like to put the teacher in center of analysis, observing as she·he must personify two characters, with different even opposite methods, the teacher, and the chef·fe.Este artículo examina las especificidades de la enseñanza culinaria en un instituto hotelero, centrándose en las posturas y los registros utilizados por los/as profesores/as. Al considerar el taller como un lugar de formación híbrido, a medio camino entre espacio escolar y espacio profesional, queremos volver a situar al/la profesor/a en el centro del análisis, observando cómo tiene que arbitrar entre dos figuras con métodos distintos, incluso opuestos : la de docente y la de jefe/a de cocina.Cet article examine les spécificités de l’enseignement de la cuisine en lycée hôtelier en axant l’analyse sur les postures et registres mobilisés par les professeur·es. Analysis and traction control of a rocker-bogie planetary rover

Future missions require improved rover performance. This thesis presents an analysis of a six-wheeled prototype rover. Its design is based on the rockerbogie configuration. A procedure is presented which can rapidly compute the configuration of the rover as a function of its environment. Also, a quasi-static force analysis of the system is detailed. It considers realistic physical constraints such as wheel slip and actuator saturation. A computer simulation with a graphic interface is developed to evaluate performance and enhance the understanding of the system. The analysis leads to the design of a fuzzy logic controller that increases rover traction and mobility. Analytical and experimental studies are performed to validate the analysis and control scheme.by Hervé Hacot.S.M
Identificación de las principales malezas del cultivo de Girasol (Helianthus annuus) en la región agrícola del oeste del Chaco
El cultivo de girasol resulta muy importante para el Chaco dado que ocupa el segundo lugar, luego de la soja, en hectáreas sembradas y ofrece al productor una entrada económica en una época clave donde inicia la siembra de gruesa, ya sea maíz o soja. Con el objetivo de identificar cuáles son las principales especies de malezas que podrían competir con el cultivo de girasol, se realizó un ensayo consistente en cuatro parcelas en las cuales se distribuyeron cuatro tratamientos en bloques completos al azar, Alta densidad (50000 plantas/hectárea) - con preemergente (Prometrina+ Acetoclor); Alta densidad (50000 plantas/ hectárea)- sin preemergente; Baja densidad (40000 plantas/hectárea)- sin pre-emergente y Baja densidad (40000 plantas/hectárea)- con pre-emergente (Prometrina+ Acetoclor). En cada tratamiento se realizaron cuatro censos utilizando una unidad de muestreo correspondiente a 2m2. Cada especie hallada en cada censo fue evaluada a través de dos métodos: el método fitosociológico de Braun Blanquet y por estimación visual de la densidad de malezas por m2 utilizando la escala de Barralis 1977. Finalmente, se elaboraron tablas de contingencia de las especies y el número de individuos por m-2 y se analizaron mediante una prueba de independencia. La evaluación se realizó usando el test de Chi cuadrado. Las especies que aparecieron en las parcelas a lo largo del ciclo del cultivo fueron 13, Urochloa panicoides, Echinochloa colona, Sorghum halepense, Cyperus rotundus, Sida spinosa, Sphaeralcea bonariensis, Amaranthus hybridus, Chenopodium album, Portulaca gilliesii, Boerhavia diffusa, Lepidium didymium, Solanum sisymbriifolium, Ipomoea spp. Las especies con mayor abundancia-cobertura fueron 3 (Cyperus rotundus, Chenopodium album y Urochloa
panicoides), de las cuales, Urochloa panicoides resulta la más perjudicial. Entre las prácticas de manejo del cultivo y las malezas, se destacó el fuerte efecto del tratamiento herbicida pre-emergente en la estructura de la comunidad de malezas, modificando la dominancia de los diferentes grupos taxonómicos (Core-Eudicotiledóneas y Monocotiledóneas). En cuanto a los esquemas de densidad de siembra, esta práctica cultural fue determinante en la distribución de formas de vida anual y perenne en la comunidad de malezas.Sunflower cultivation is very important for the Chaco given that it occupies second place, after soybeans, in planted hectares and offers the producer an economic income at a key time when coarse planting begins, either corn or soybeans. In order to identify the main weed species that could compete with the sunflower crop, a trial was carried out consisting of four plots in which four treatments were distributed in complete blocks at random, High density (50,000 plants/hectare) - with pre-emergent (Promethrin + Acetochlor); High density (50,000 plants/hectare) - no pre-emergence; Low density (40,000 plants/hectare)-without pre-emergent and Low density (40,000 plants/hectare)- with pre-emergent (Promethrin + Acetochlor). In each treatment, four censuses were carried out using a sampling unit corresponding to 2m2. Each species found in each census was evaluated using two methods: the Braun Blanquet phytosociological method and by visual estimation of weed density per m2 using the Barralis 1977 scale. Finally, contingency tables of the species and the number of individuals per m-2 and analyzed by means of an Independence test. The evaluation was performed using the Chi square test. There were thirteen species that appeared in the plots throughout the crop cycle: Urochloa panicoides, Echinochloa colona, Sorghum halepense, Cyperus rotundus, Sida spinosa, Sphaeralcea bonariensis, Amaranthus hybridus, Chenopodium album, Portulaca gilliesii, Boerhavia diffusa, Lepidium didymium, Solanum sisymbriifolium, Ipomoea spp. The species with the highest abundance-coverage were 3 (Cyperus rotundus, Chenopodium album and Urochloa panicoides), of which Urochloa panicoides was the most damaging. Among crop and weed management practices, the strong effect of pre-emergent herbicide treatment on weed community structure was highlighted, modifying the dominance of the different taxonomic groups (Core-Eudicotyledons and Monocotyledons). Regarding planting density schemes, this cultural practice was decisive in the distribution of annual and perennial life forms in the weed community
