Comparisons of Linear Regression Models for Properties of Alkaliactivated Binder Concrete
Concrete with alkali-activated binder (AAB) is increasingly considered as a better alternative to conventional portland cement (PC) concrete due to its superior sustainable and green properties. In order to promote the practical usage of AAB concrete, a previous study by the present authors proposed models on correlations among their mechanical and nondestructive properties. The present study extends the previous knowledge by proposing new improved models using linear regressions to predict compressive strengths and modulus of elasticity from ultrasonic pulse velocities. The models are developed for both unstressed and stressed AAB concrete with different curing temperatures. The accuracies of the models are compared with both sum of squares due to errors (SSE) and R2 depending on the type of equations; and the new models are found to be more accurate compared to the previous models
Increasing prevalence of multiresistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a constant challenge in the Intensive Care Units in general and particularly those treating burned patients. This epidemiological research showed a rate of hospital infections of 18.91 for every 1000 day-patients (63 episodes). The average rate of bacteriemia associated with central venous route (VCV) was 13.48 per 1000 days using VCV. The use rate of VCV was 80.6% with a resulting 19 episodes of bacteriemia. The most frequently encountered germs of nosocomial infections were Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter spp and Fusarium spp (37.5%, 8.3% y 6.9%, respectively). Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found in 27 episodes as the etiology of infection being multidrugresistant in all cases with exclusive sensitivity to colistin
Theresa Hak Kyung Cha\u27s Decolonizing Aesthetics
Critics of Theresa Hak Kyung Cha (1951-1982) have widely hailed her poetry book DICTEE for its idiosyncratic exploration of form, arguing how its narrative disruptions constitute an interrogation of dominant modes of knowledge production which are inherently steeped in oppressive ideologies. However, Asian American Studies has largely ignored how her visual and intermedia pieces execute a similar interrogation in perhaps even more radical ways. This thesis intervenes in Cha scholarship by centering her visual art which has been historically ignored. Cha’s visual art is extremely abstract and difficult; this thesis will demonstrate how its seeming illegibility constitutes a decolonizing aesthetic in its centering of the audience, rejection of linear temporality and narrative, and resistance to mastery. This thesis ultimately takes up the question of what constitutes “political” artistic engagement and demonstrates how Cha’s work encourages an alternative mode of engagement that is distinctly political- characterized by slowness, individuality, and circularity
Visions of Ecstasy in John Donne\u27s Songs and Sonnets
Motifs of visuality saturate John Donne’s Songs and Sonnets as the primary action of many poems consists of the speaker looking at his lover or the lovers looking at each other. Often times this act of looking results in ecstasy: the speaker and his lover being removed from their physical bodies. By examining three poems: “The Ecstasy,” “The Good-Morrow,” and “A Valediction: Of My Name in the Window,” this thesis uses the lens of ecstasy to explore themes such as individual vs. collective selfhood, mutuality, and perpetuity. Ultimately this thesis will argue how successful ecstasy is dependent upon mutuality between the lovers, and how Donne uses ecstasy to grant his speakers romantic endurance
Nondestructive Evaluation of Wood Using Ultrasonic Dry-Coupled Transducers
The nondestructive evaluation of wood is of considerable importance in several structural applications such as wooden bridge decks, wooden structural components, and wooden railway ties. This problem has attracted the attention of several researchers [1–19]. The specific topics that are being considered include: detection of natural defects like bacterial growth, knots, and splits; grading of wood; estimation of strength and stiffness characteristics; assessment of the effect of chemical treatment on strength; and, in-situ evaluation of degradation in wooden structural components and railway ties. Ultrasonic techniques have achieved a reasonable amount of success in the estimation of structural properties and defects [11, 16, 18]. Detection of natural defects such as knots, splits and decays provides valuable information which can be used for the grading of wood. The wave velocity measurements can also be used for the determination of structural properties (e.g., modulus of elasticity) of wood leading to grading, and to monitor the in-situ degradation of wooden structural members exposed to loads and environmental conditions

La necesidad de actualizar y modernizar la enseñanza de la Historia: hacia un sentido de vida y pertenencia en los niños
The new generations require and demand new ways of learning. It is necessary to rethink and update the knowledge that is imparted in the classroom. The teaching of history must be reformulated. From children’s historical narrative, the new technologies applied to the Framing Theory, to a process of defamiliarization, to creative aesthetic resources and to the literary reception in its interaction with the external environment, may all open a wide range of possibilities and foster a space for reflection, understanding and identification with the past.Las nuevas generaciones requieren y demandan nuevas maneras de aprendizaje. Nondestructive Evaluation of Wood using Ultrasonic Frequency Domain Analysis
In-situ performance assessment of wooden structural components are very important for maintenance and rehabilitation of timber structures. Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods can play an important role in the in-situ assessment of structural performance. The ultrasonic technique has been found to be more accurate than the conventional practice of visual inspection in assessing the defects such as decays, knots, and splits in wood [1]
NONDESTRUCTIVE CHARACTERIZATIONS OF ALKALI ACTIVATED FLY ASH AND/OR SLAG CONCRETE
In recent years, the alkali activated material (AAM) concrete is emerging as a sustainable and green alternative to traditional portland cement (PC) concrete. In order to widen its applications, more information on correlations among its mechanical and physical properties is required. To address the issue this paper studies the relationships between compressive strength, dynamic modulus of elasticity, and ultrasonic pulse velocity of various AAM concrete mixtures with fly ash and/or slag as precursors cured at different temperatures at both unstressed and stressed conditions. The results show that effective relationships can be established to predict compressive strength and modulus of elasticity from the ultrasonic pulse velocity with reasonable accuracy for wide range of AAM concrete mixes
