Market impact under a new regulatory regime: Credit rating agencies in Europe
We investigate whether there are any identifiable differences in market perceptions of
rating news released by Moody’s, S&P and Fitch following the establishment of a
new regulatory regime in July 2011, when the European Securities and Markets
Authority assumed responsibility for rating agencies’ regulation in Europe. We focus the analysis on the impact of bank rating actions on stock returns and volatility during 2008-2013. Among the intended effects of the new regulatory regime are reduced market impact of rating actions and enhanced market stability, yet we find very mixed evidence. Differentials in market responses across CRAs are identified
Praktična primjena CCB modela u Češkoj
This research aimed to present a new bankruptcy prediction model and apply this original prediction method in practice. The Come Clean Bankruptcy (or CCB) model uses relevant financial indicators and ratios to detect the signs of impending financial distress in time so that the management can take appropriate measures to avoid it. The model was applied to the data reported by 199 entities operating in the textile/clothing industry in the Czech Republic. Analyzing data reported for the previous seven years enabled us to predict which companies are more likely to end in a difficult financial situation. Afterward, comparing these predictions with the actual development of those companies in 2013-2020 serves to verify the efficacy and usability of the model to corporate reality. The research has shown that companies that went bankrupt in the analyzed period represented only a fraction of the data set (roughly 4.5%). Despite the small number of financial failures occurring during the analyzed period, the CCB model could detect impending bankruptcy in one-third of the cases.
Messianic Sign in Wedding at Cana: Revealed God’s Glory and Leads Jesus' Disciples to Faith Narrative Reading of John 2,1-12
The story of the miracle of the wine in wedding at Cana is one of the most significant narrative text in the New Testament. Jesus did his first sign at the beginning of his public ministry. This study of the account of the wedding at Cana in Jn 2,1-12 is influenced by two statements “he revealed his glory and his disciple believed in him (v.11). I will approach the text by analyzing the characterization of every character in the narrative: how the character works to contribute to the theological perspective of the Gospel? The literary structure of the periscope is analyzed, and the meaning of the sign is understood as a Messianic miracle that leads the disciples to a firm belief in Jesus as the Messiah. It is argued that the revelation of glory does not create faith directly but it is link with the faith that the secret is only reveled to those who believe. The miracle of the wine is then able to reveal a profound secret concerning the person of Jesus, his union with the Father. The faith of the disciple in this text is not only an initial faith but a total faith in Jesus
You’ve Got Mail: Using Personalized Authentic Reading Experiences to Increase First Graders’ Oral Reading Fluency
Fluency is an essential component in learning to read. This research focused on exploring the impact of personalized authentic reading experiences on oral reading fluency and reading attitudes. Participants were six first-grade students enrolled in an urban public elementary school that were assessed as reading at a lower level than the majority of their classmates. Pre- and post-intervention data collection included measures of fluency (accuracy, automaticity, and prosody), comprehension, and reading attitudes. The four week intervention involved three 20-30 minute group meetings per week where students received and read personalized Pixar movie postcards. Results showed student increases in all dimensions of fluency, suggesting that the inclusion of personalized authentic reading experiences in reading instruction may benefit students’ reading fluency. While surveys of reading attitudes were somewhat inconclusive, observations suggest that the specific features of this intervention may have positive applications for a variety of reading interventions
DIVINE DEMANDS FOR JUSTICE: AN EXEGETICAL READING OF AMOS 5, 18-27
The book of Amos is one of the prophetic literatures to be read in every context of human life. While reading Amos 5,18-27 we may ask the question: What is the reason for God to hate Israel’s worship and not accepting their offering? This selected text shows a contrasting movement of relationship between God and Israel. God chooses and makes Israel his own, in order that they would be an instrument of his blessing for others. However, the Israelites failed to practice it in their daily life. In this exegetical paper, I would suggest that neglecting justice for the poor in the society provokes God’s anger to hate Israel’s worship and reject their sacrifice. Concerning the wickedness of Israel, Amos declared that even though Israel desires for the day of Yahweh, it is darkness and not light for them (v.18) and because of their sins, God will send them into exile beyond Damascus (v. 27). God hates their attitude but still loves them as his chosen people. The purpose of Amos’s announcement is to change the hearts of ruling class’s behavior and his basic concern on socioeconomic injustices. Amos’s oracles suggest that the officials got rich in dishonesty. The exile is the consequence of the failure of Israel leaders in leading the people to live in divine will. It becomes the moment for Israel to purify themselves before God and being trained for strengthen their good relationship with Yahweh, their God
Suicide Ideation in Older Adults Recovering from Acute Conditions in a Clinical Recovery Facility
The aim of the current study was to
assess suicide ideation in a sample of
older adults recovering from acute
conditions in a clinical recovery facility
of the Portuguese Red Cross. Four indicators
of suicide ideation were used.
Clinical, contextual, and psychological
variables—namely, previous suicide
attempts, death of a family member suicide, loneliness, and interpersonal
needs—were also tested to determine
whether they were related to suicide
ideation. Findings show suicide ideation
is frequent at admission and
related to patients’ previous suicide
attempts. Death of a family member
by suicide and patients’ functional
dependency are related to some indicators
of suicide ideation, and loneliness
and interpersonal needs are important
psychological variables relating to
suicide ideation. Interpersonal needs
were related to suicide ideation even
after controlling for previous suicide
attempts. Implications of the results for
clinical practice are discussed. [Journal
of Gerontological Nursing, 43(9), 31-37.
