Optimal Pricing and order quantity strategies for a firm offering multiple products facing customers cannibalization and random market demand
This paper studies a firm’s profitability problem offering its products into different market segments at differentiated prices. In order to improve the firms’ profitability the firm needs to decide the prices and order quantities allocations for each market segment. In perfect market segmentation, it is assumed that the customers do not cannibalize between market segments. Whereas, in the case of imperfect market segmentation, the customers are assumed to cannibalize from a high price market segment to a lower price segment. Models to determine the optimal strategies for pricing and order quantity for the perfect as well as for the imperfect market segmentations are proposed with both the deterministic and stochastic customers’ demand. The study has shown that the perfect market segmentation always yields higher revenues compared to no segmentation for a firm facing both the deterministic and stochastic demand situations. In addition to this, the study has also shown that when cannibalization exists, a firm is still able to yield higher revenues compared to the case of no market segmentation facing both the deterministic and stochastic demands, however, greater the extent of cannibalization could result substantial losses in the profitability
Traditional and Non-Traditional Risk Factors of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Young Women: Evidence from the ANCORS-YW Study

They represent a unique population exposed to traditional cardiovascular risk factors and female sex-specific, non-traditional risk factors. The current study aimed to describe traditional and non-traditional risk factors of ACS in young women from the Middle East.Patients and Methods: The present study used data from the Jordanian, nationwide, multicenter, case-control study, ANCORS-YW. Bivariate analyses and logistic regression models were used to predict independent risk factors of ACS using adjusted odds ratios (AOR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).Results: The study included 572 young women (≤ 50-years) with a median age of 45-years, divided into an ACS group (n=154, 26.9%) and a control group with no atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (n=418, 73.1%). The most common presentation of ACS was non-ST-elevation ACS (n=98, 64%). The ACS group, compared to control group, had higher proportions of type-2 diabetes (41.6%vs.11.7%, p< 0.001), hypertension (53.9%vs.23.4%, p< 0.001), tobacco use (37.7%vs.24.2%, p=0.001), family history of cardiovascular disease (53.2%vs.23.4%, p< 0.001), metabolic syndrome (14.3%vs.2.4%, p< 0.001), and preterm delivery (24.7%vs.16.7%, p=0.032). ACS group had nonsignificantly greater proportions of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (29.2%vs.22.7%, p=0.109) and gestational diabetes (15.6%vs.10.3%, p=0.081). Multivariable logistic regression analyses identified five independent predictors of ACS: type-2 diabetes (AOR, 95% CI: 3.45, 1.98─5.99), family history of cardiovascular disease (3.33, 2.15─5.17), tobacco use (2.01, 1.26─3.21), hypertension (1.72, 1.07─2.78), and metabolic syndrome (4.35, 1.72─11.03).Conclusion: Modifiable risk factors play an important role in ACS risk among young women. Epidemiological and Clinical Characteristics of Headache Among Medical Students in Palestine : A cross Sectional Study
Abstract
Background Headache is one of the most disturbing complaints worldwide, negatively impacting social and regular life activities.In the background of stressful life in medical schools, adding to the stressful situation in Palestine, a developing country under occupation, this study investigated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of migraines and tension headaches among medical students from the Palestinian Universities in West Bank and GazaMethods:A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted on all Palestinian Medical Students. Students were diagnosed based on ICHD-3 criteria. Demographic characteristics were compared by gender for each type of headache. Frequency, percentage, and mean ± SD. Pearson's chi-squared test, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used where needed. P-value < 0.05 was considered significant.Results:The study included 806 medical students; 476 (59.0%) of them were female. TTH and migraine's prevalence was 59.8% and 22%, respectively, with a higher prevalence among basic year students. The female to male ratio was 1:0.6 for both types of headaches. Sleep deprivation, physical activities, and altered sleep patterns were reported as the top triggering factors.ConclusionsThe results demonstrate that the prevalence of both subtypes' primary headache is high among Palestinian medical students, with a higher prevalence among basic year students. The study also showed that these findings are higher than other studies among medical students in other countries.</jats:p
