This paper gives an overview of the history of bibliometrics in Austria and reports on its level of awareness and its acceptance. For this purpose an online survey addressed to Austrian scientists was conducted and its results analyzed. In spite of emergent and increasing activities in this field, the uptake of bibliometric knowledge is slow and has much room for improvement in the Austrian scientific community. The majority of responders agree on the need for a more sophisticated bibliometric education and also indicate a willingness to use existent bibliometric services
Social environment analysis of the Klagenfurt district of Waidmannsdorf for the youth centre Youth-Point Don Bosco
In the last century, the considerable impact of environments on individual development in adolescents has been recognised. In this study, I thus conduct a social environment analysis of the Klagenfurt district of Waidmannsdorf. Since this district is considered to be a social hot spot, teenagers at ?Youth-Point Don Bosco? are surveyed regarding their assessment of the social environment. The primarily goal of this study is to investigate the phenomenological interpretations, construals and perceptions of the teenagers related to the social environment of Waidmannsdorf, in order to define it?s resources and deficits. A further focus is the inventory of the socio-spatial conditions as seen by associations, institutions and facilities which deal with adolescents. Consequently, the public image of the youth centre is examined. By using Richard Krisch?s elaborated methods (needle method, time-budget diagrams, surveys on the public image of institutions, peer group grids, structured town walks, interviews about institutions), I show that socio-spatial structures are available, but are often not adequately equipped for teenagers. Except for the youth centre examined, the cooperation and networking of youth facilities appears to be insufficient. The youth centre has a good reputation among people living in the district; however, conflicts with teenagers do arise and seem largely caused by a lack of communication and information.vorgelegt von Corinna HasitzkaAbweichender Titel laut

Analysis of spatial and temporal changes in hot spots of drug-related offenses in Vienna, Austria between 2010 and 2019
The book chapter deals with spatio-temporal changes found in hot spots for criminal activity linked to addictive substances in Vienna, Austria between 2010 and 2019. It will also explore geographic and socioeconomic factors, and the ways in which they impact such hot spots. The aforementioned geographic and socioeconomic characteristics used in this analysis have been taken from relevant academic literature. In order to find hot spots of criminal activity, the space-time cube will be used in combination with the emerging hot spot analysis. Apart from one exception, all hot spots are located within the inner districts of Vienna. Most of these can be identified as consecutive hot spots. This means that they have existed for several years and no suitable methods, either through police intervention or political measures, have been found to combat them
Using mobility data based on GPS locations for the analysis of urban crime - a test of geofencing for filtering transit mobility
We use crowdsourced mobility data generated from smartphone GPS locations in order to gain a more comprehensive understanding of spatiotemporal pattern of urban crime. The population at risk of falling victim to crime does not only consists of the resident population but also of the ambient population which can be measured thanks to the increasing availability of large-scale datasets based on mobile phone usage. Using mobility and crime data from Cologne (Germany) in 2019, we describe in detail the data generation process and the filtering out of transit mobility and congested car traffic on major roads applying geofencing. We use spatial regression analysis to show that mobility data are a very powerful predictor of spatial crime patterns, largely mediating the effects of ‘conventional’ predictors representing opportunity theories. Filtering out transit mobility enhances the measurement validity of the ambient population judged by its increased explanatory power in multivariate models
