Data Processing And Machine Learning Methods For Multi-Modal Operator State Classification Systems
This document is intended as an introduction to a set of common signal processing learning methods that may be used in the software portion of a functional crew state monitoring system. This includes overviews of both the theory of the methods involved, as well as examples of implementation. Practical considerations are discussed for implementing modular, flexible, and scalable processing and classification software for a multi-modal, multi-channel monitoring system. Example source code is also given for all of the discussed processing and classification methods
One-loop amplitudes for four-point functions with two external massive quarks and two external massless partons up to O(epsilon^2)
We present complete analytical results on the
one-loop amplitudes relevant for the NNLO quark-parton model description of the
hadroproduction of heavy quarks as given by the so-called loop-by-loop
contributions. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in the
dimensional regularization scheme. These one-loop amplitudes can also be used
as input in the determination of the corresponding NNLO cross sections for
heavy flavor photoproduction, and in photon-photon reactions.Comment: 25 pages, 6 figures in the text, Revtex, one reference added, minor

Effectiveness of psychological interventions for chronic pain on health care use and work absence: systematic review and meta-analysis
Psychological interventions for chronic pain and its consequences have been shown to improve mood, disability, pain, and catastrophic thinking, but there has been no systematic review specifically of their effects on health care use or time lost from work as treatment outcomes in mixed chronic pain. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological therapies for chronic pain (excluding headache) in adults for these outcomes. We used searches from two previous systematic reviews and updated them. Eighteen randomized controlled trials were found that reported health care use (15 studies) and work loss (nine studies) as outcomes. Fourteen studies provided data for meta-analysis. There were moderate effects for psychological interventions compared to active, treatment as usual and waiting list controls in reducing health care use, with confidence in the findings. No benefits were found for medication reduction, but with less confidence in this result. Analysis of work loss showed no significant effects of psychological interventions over comparisons, but the use of many different metrics necessitated fragmenting the planned analyses, making summary difficult. The results are encouraging for the potential of routine psychological intervention to reduce post-treatment health care use, with associated cost savings, but it is likely that the range and complexity of problems affecting work necessitate additional intervention over standard group psychological intervention
Transnational reflections on transnational research projects on men, boys and gender relations
This article reflects on the research project, ‘Engaging South African and Finnish youth towards new traditions of non-violence, equality and social well-being’, funded by the Finnish and South African national research councils, in the context of wider debates on research, projects and transnational processes. The project is located within a broader analysis of research projects and projectization (the reduction of research to separate projects), and the increasing tendencies for research to be framed within and as projects, with their own specific temporal and organizational characteristics. This approach is developed further in terms of different understandings of research across borders: international, comparative, multinational and transnational. Special attention is given to differences between research projects that are in the Europe and the EU, and projects that are between the global North and the global South. The theoretical, political and practical challenges of the North-South research project are discussed
A note on the polarization of the laser field in Mott Scattering
In the first Born approximation and using an elliptically polarized laser
field, the Mott scattering of an electron by a Coulomb potential is
investigated using the Dirac-Volkov states to describe the incident and
scattered electrons. The results obtained are compared with the results of S.M.
Li \textit{et al} \cite{1} for the case of a linearly polarized laser field and
with the results of Y. Attaourti \textit{et al} \cite{2} for the case of a
circular polarization.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, 2 figure
