Community Preparatory School: 2013-2014 Public Relations Plan
Community Prep sends out seasonal newsletters during fall, winter, spring, and summer of each year that promote recent activities in school, discuss recent events, profile important donors, and give updates on alumni’s successes. These newsletters are sent out in the mail, and are also accessible on Community Prep’s website. Each newsletter comes in one color, with black and white photographs, and has a readable and attractive layout. Email updates have similar information, but sometimes have embedded videos, and provide links to a site where donations can be made or tickets can be bought for future events
THE HUMAN RIGHT TO ENERGY IN THE BRAZILIAN CONTEXT
ABSTRACT This paper[1] will explore the basic legal framework for understanding the right to energy, as it applies to the Brazilian context. It will first outline basic international frameworks that justify the legal consideration of energy as a human right and as an environmental development obligation. After that, this paper will detail how other countries understand this obligation through statute and case law. Then, this paper will posit basic questions that are critical to framing the dialogue about the right to energy. Within that framework, this paper will discuss the right to energy in the Brazilian context and the legal application of such a right. The conclusion of this paper will investigate domestic, regional, and international support structures that can assist Brazil in its development and implementation of the right to energy. KEYWORDS: Human rights; energy; Brazil. Scoping Review to Assess Evidence on the Relationship Between Limited English Proficiency and Sepsis Mortality.
Background: Sepsis is a deadly syndrome accounting for the deaths of 48,000 people in the UK each year. Care continues to improve for these patients, but diagnosis is reliant on clear communication between patient and care provider. A significant proportion of the UK populous speaks little or no English, which poses challenges to clinicians for patient assessment.
Methods: This scoping review searched EMBASE, MEDLINE and Google Scholar. All relevant articles comparing Sepsis Mortality and Limited English Proficiency (LEP) were retrieved and screened. The primary outcome was to find articles that compared this exposure and outcome directly. Secondary outcomes assessed the risk of bias and qualitative discussion of paper results. No quantitative analyses were performed.
Results: Three relevant papers were discovered and included. There was diversity in outcomes relating to LEP depending on racial and ethnic background. The studies provided insight into a direct link between LEP and sepsis mortality. One found a 31% increase in patient mortality for Asian, White, and other races, one found a 29% increase in mortality for non-Hispanic White patients, whilst a third found a 17% decrease in all-cause mortality including sepsis patients if they had LEP.
Conclusions: Overall, there is a dearth of evidence in the subject area with no studies carried out in the UK. The research that does exist is conflicting and somewhat limited. Efforts should be focused on improving the research base with wider studies with greater varieties in patient locations
Self-help materials for smoking relapse prevention: a process evaluation of the SHARPISH randomized controlled trial
Background: UK Stop Smoking Services are effective at assisting smokers to quit. However, smoking relapse rates are high, representing a significant public health problem. No effective interventions are currently available. This embedded qualitative process evaluation, within a randomised controlled trial of a self-help smoking relapse prevention intervention, aimed to understand patient perspectives in explaining the null trial finding, and to make recommendations for intervention development. Methods: The intervention was a British version of the ‘Forever Free’ self help booklets (SHARPISH - ISRCTN 36980856). The qualitative evaluation purposefully sampled 43 interview participants, triangulated with the views of 10 participants and 12 health professionals in focus groups. Data were thematically analysed. Results: Analysis revealed important variation in individual engagement with the self help booklets. Variation was interpreted by the meta-themes of ‘motivation for cessation’, and ‘positioning on information provision’, interacting with the theme of ‘mechanisms for information provision’. Conclusions: Targeting self help information towards those most motivated to engage may be beneficial, considering the social and cultural realities of individual’s lives. Individual preferences for the mechanisms of information delivery should be appraised when designing future interventions. Long term personalised follow up may be a simple step in improving smoking relapse rates
Max Holland Papers - Accession 738
The Max Holland Papers consists of materials related to the Rock Hill, SC city government and the office of City Manager. Max Holland (1923-1992) was the Rock Hill City Manager from 1965 to 1979. Mr. Holland was involved in the redevelopment of downtown Rock Hill that included the urban renewal clearance program, the new city hall, railroad was relocated, the Train depot was razed, Dave Lyle Boulevard was constructed, a new law center was built, the city limits were expanded, and the Town Center Mall was built. The Town Center Mall experiment, that put a roof on Main Street in downtown Rock Hill turning it into an interior mall, and the razing of the Train Depot were particularly controversial. The collection includes minutes of agendas, memoranda, ordinances, correspondence, budgets, and lists. The largest series are those of Rock Hill City Council, the state of the city, and topics on the agenda for upcoming meetings. A great deal of information about Rock Hill’s growth during Holland’s term of office is in the collection including zoning and annexation records, Planning Commission reports, and maps. The researcher will find an Appendix of publications in topical order.https://digitalcommons.winthrop.edu/manuscriptcollection_findingaids/1728/thumbnail.jp
A3_9 All I Want Thaw Christmas Is You
In this paper, we investigate if it would be possible to defrost Mariah Carey from an ice cube of length 2 m in time for the 1st of December if you began defrosting her on the 1st of November. It was found that it would take a total of 12.6 days for Mariah to return to normal body temperature, leaving her plenty of time to prepare for the Christmas season before it arrives
A3_6 Could it really be cheese?
This paper investigated the material properties of the moon in the film ”Wallace and Gromit A Grand Day Out”. We conclude that it is possible for the moon to be comprised of cheese, demonstrated by a kinetic friction coefficient of 0.16 which is comparable to a lightly lubricated metal-rough surface boundary much like skis against a crumbly cheese
A3_2 If a Tree Falls...
In this paper we are investigating the distances a person can be away from a tree to still be ableto hear it fall. We have calculated that the furthest away a listener can be, with no noise fromthe surrounding area, to still be able to hear a tree fall is approximately 1000km and the furthestdistance they can stand and still hear the noise in a city with traffic is 100m
A3_1 Distortion: The Maths Behind The Magic
In this paper, we are investigating and creating mathematical models for two different distortion types. We have succeeded in creating these models, as proven from our plots, and have explored the idea of applying these models to a simple speaker circuit
