    Improvement of detectability for CMOS floating gate defects in supply current test

    We already proposed a supply current test method for detecting floating gate defects in CMOS ICs. In the method, increase of the supply current caused by defects is promoted by superposing a sinusoidal signal on the supply voltage. In this study, we propose one way to improve detectability of the method for the defects. They are detected by analyzing the frequency of supply current and judging whether secondary harmonics of the sinusoidal signal exist or not. Effectiveness of our way is confirmed by some experiments.</p

    An electron microscopic study on the fine structural differences of motor endplates among the red, white and intermediate muscle fibers of the rat intercostal muscles was made and the following results were obtained. 1. In the motor endplate of the red fiber, the junctional folds were poorly developed and their number was small. 2. In the motor endplate of the white fiber, the junctional folds were well developed and their number was far more numerous than those in the red fiber. 3. The fine structure of the motor endplate of the intermediate fiber was of an intermediate character between the red and white fiber.</p

    Histochemical observation on the enzyme activities of human myocardium

    Recently, by histochemical observations the changed activities of the enzymes of heartr,nuscle in experimentally induced ischemia have been reported by several investigatorsl~4. SHNITKA and NACHLAS4 demonstrated that the ligation of coronal artery of dog heart induced an increase in the activities of succinic dehydrogenase and NAD-diaphorase four to six hours after the ligation. However, extracorporeal circulation induced no distinct changes in the activities of succinic dehydrogenase and cytochrome oxidase as has been revealed quite recently by BJORK and associate5 from their histochemical studies of the specimen from left ventricular myocardium by a method of drill biopsy, but only the myocardial edema and fibrosis ocurred. This report deals with the distribution and activities of oxidative enzymes of human myocardium of fortyone cases of congenital heart disease and four cases of mitral stenosis and two controls, the specimen of which were obtained at the surgical operation. The purpose is to confirm the damaging effect of occlusion of blood flow in surgical operation on muscle fiber.</p

    CMOS floating gate defect detection using I/sub DDQ/ test with DC power supply superposed by AC component

    In this paper, we propose a new I/sub DDQ/ test method for detecting floating gate defects in CMOS ICs. In the method, an unusual increase of the supply current, caused by defects, is promoted by superposing an AC component on the DC power supply. The feasibility of the test is examined by some experiments on four DUTs with an intentionally caused defect. The results showed that our method could detect clearly all the defects, one of which may be detected by neither any functional logic test nor any conventional I/sub DDQ/ test.</p

    Longitudinal SDW order in a quasi-1D Ising-like quantum antiferromagnet

    From neutron diffraction measurements on a quasi-1D Ising-like Co2+^{\rm 2+} spin compound BaCo2_{\rm 2}V2_{\rm 2}O8_{\rm 8}, we observed an appearance of a novel type of incommensurate ordering in magnetic fields. This ordering is essentially different from the N{\' e}el-type ordering, which is expected for the classical system, and is caused by quantum fluctuation inherent in the quantum spin chain. A Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL) nature characteristic of the gapless quantum 1D system is responsible for the realization of the incommensurate ordering.Comment: 4pages, 4figur

    Evaluating the Cassandra NoSQL Database Approach for Genomic Data Persistency

    Rapid advances in high-throughput sequencing techniques have created interesting computational challenges in bioinformatics. One of them refers to management of massive amounts of data generated by automatic sequencers. We need to deal with the persistency of genomic data, particularly storing and analyzing these large-scale processed data. To find an alternative to the frequently considered relational database model becomes a compelling task. Other data models may be more effective when dealing with a very large amount of nonconventional data, especially for writing and retrieving operations. In this paper, we discuss the Cassandra NoSQL database approach for storing genomic data. We perform an analysis of persistency and I/O operations with real data, using the Cassandra database system. We also compare the results obtained with a classical relational database system and another NoSQL database approach, MongoDB

    Synthesizing Social and Cognitive Approaches in SLA

    In an effort to investigate developmental episodes in additional language learning using both cognitive and social frameworks, this working paper presents results of a pilot study based on a task-based language learning session. A total of forty participants at a Japanese university carried out a pedagogical task in five steps, including both interactive and independent steps. No instruction was provided. Approximately 3,000 responses were collected and examined for comprehension of target forms, and for the rationales provided for form selection. The quantitative analysis indicates significant gains in comprehension and the qualitative data show a shift in the trajectory of participant thinking as a result of participating in a task session. Commentaries from participants provide insights into the social and cognitive aspects of their developmental processes

    Critical Role of Neuropeptides B/W Receptor 1 Signaling in Social Behavior and Fear Memory

    Neuropeptide B/W receptor 1 (NPBWR1) is a G-protein coupled receptor, which was initially reported as an orphan receptor, and whose ligands were identified by this and other groups in 2002 and 2003. To examine the physiological roles of NPBWR1, we examined phenotype of Npbwr1−/− mice. When presented with an intruder mouse, Npbwr1−/− mice showed impulsive contact with the strange mice, produced more intense approaches toward them, and had longer contact and chasing time along with greater and sustained elevation of heart rate and blood pressure compared to wild type mice. Npbwr1−/− mice also showed increased autonomic and neuroendocrine responses to physical stress, suggesting that impairment of NPBWR1 leads to stress vulnerability. We also observed that these mice show abnormality in the contextual fear conditioning test. These data suggest that NPBWR1 plays a critical role in limbic system function and stress responses. Histological and electrophysiological studies showed that NPBWR1 acts as an inhibitory regulator on a subpopulation of GABAergic neurons in the lateral division of the CeA and terminates stress responses. These findings suggest important roles of NPBWR1 in regulating amygdala function during physical and social stress
