Thermodynamics for Trajectories of a Mass Point
On the basis of information theory, a new formalism of classical
non-relativistic mechanics of a mass point is proposed. The particle
trajectories of a general dynamical system defined on an (1+n)-dimensional
smooth manifold are treated geometrically as dynamical variables. Statistical
mechanics of particle trajectories are constructed in a classical manner.
Thermodynamic variables are introduced through a partition function based on a
canonical ensemble of trajectories. Within this theoretical framework,
classical mechanics can be interpreted as an equilibrium state of statistical
mechanics. The relationships between classical and quantum mechanics are
discussed from this statistical mechanical viewpoint. The maximum entropy
principle is shown to provide a unified view of both classical and quantum

What inspired you to enter this special competition to create a modern architectural language for Africa?
African architecture always inspired me with amazing earthen architecture throughout the continent. This competition is a valuable chance for me to study and understand more about the architecture of the continent, it is also a chance for me to express my ideas about modern architectural language for Africa.
What did you find most interesting or challenging during the research and development of your prototype?
The most interesting is when researching for an image that represents the artistic identity of a country or an ethnic group. The process was amazing and felt like I was having a tour of the continent. Seeing so many surprising images and local building techniques inspired me a lot with the design. The most challenging part is the climate of Africa is very diverse; hence, choosing a climatic zone to study is quite difficult.
Why do you believe African homeowners will be interested in building a home such as the one you have submitted today?
Not only the African homeowners but also homeowners from everywhere in the world will have common consideration in choosing a place to live which is: affordable, high quality living standard, aesthetically attractive, and low cost for running and maintenance. Hence, I use these as my goal for the design. When design meets these requirements, there is no doubt that homeowners will interested in building that house

Linear confinement without dilaton in bottom-up holography for walking technicolour
In PRD78(2008)055005 [arXiv:0805.1503 [hep-ph]] and PRD79(2009)075004
[arXiv:0809.1324 [hep-ph]], we constructed a holographic description of walking
technicolour theories using both a hard- and a soft-wall model. Here, we show
that the dilaton field becomes phenomenologically irrelevant for the spectrum
of spin-one resonances once a term is included in the Lagrangian that mixes the
Goldstone bosons and the longitudinal components of the axial vector mesons. We
show how this mixing affects our previous results and we make predictions about
how this description of technicolour can be tested.Comment: 7 pages, no figure
Graphene Photonics and Optoelectronics
The richness of optical and electronic properties of graphene attracts
enormous interest. Graphene has high mobility and optical transparency, in
addition to flexibility, robustness and environmental stability. So far, the
main focus has been on fundamental physics and electronic devices. However, we
believe its true potential to be in photonics and optoelectronics, where the
combination of its unique optical and electronic properties can be fully
exploited, even in the absence of a bandgap, and the linear dispersion of the
Dirac electrons enables ultra-wide-band tunability. The rise of graphene in
photonics and optoelectronics is shown by several recent results, ranging from
solar cells and light emitting devices, to touch screens, photodetectors and

Boundary work: An interpretive ethnographic perspective on negotiating and leveraging cross-cultural identity
The complexity of global organizations highlights the importance of members’ ability to span diverse boundaries that may be defined by organization structures, national borders, and/or a variety of cultures associated with organization, nation-based societal and work cultures, industries, and/or professions. Based on ethnographic research in a Japan–US binational firm, the paper describes and analyzes the boundary role performance of the firm\u27s Japanese members. It contributes toward theory on boundary spanning by introducing a “cultural identity negotiation” conceptual framework. We show boundary spanning as a process shaped through the interplay of the contextual issues that make a boundary problematic; an individual\u27s multiple repertoires of cultural knowledge; and the individual boundary spanner\u27s “negotiation”, through interaction with others, of his/her cultural identities – the sense of “who I am” as a cultural being that is fundamental to an individual\u27s self-concept. At the same time, we make transparent the epistemological and methodological foundations of an interpretive ethnographic approach, demonstrating its value for understanding complex organizational processes. Research findings have practical implications for the selection and training of an organization\u27s employees, particularly of persons who may be considered “bicultural”
Factors Influencing Adoption of Online Payment via E-Commerce Platforms
In this study, the research group applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Davis (1989) to analyze factors influencing customers’ intention to use the online payment via e-commerce platforms as well as to encourage Vietnamese consumers to adapt this means of payment. Besides Perceived Ease of Use and Perceived Usefulness in the original model of Davis (1989), three additional dependent factors (Subjective Norm, Trust, Risk) were added to the model. The new model proposed by the research group aims to give a more well-rounded explanation on Vietnamese consumers’ attitude and intention towards the online payment. Using sample data including 448 consumers in the Northern region of Vietnam, the research group has been able to validate the hypothesis model and prove that independent and dependent variables (Attitude towards Use and Intention to Use) are positively correlated. Among the 5 dependent variables, Subjective Norm is found to be the most significant factor contributing to promote online payment attitude and intention through e-commerce websites of Vietnamese consumers.
