Background: Acute renal failure is a clinical syndrome in which a sudden deterioration in renal function results in the inability of the kidneys to maintain fluid and electrolyte homeostasis.                                                                                                                            Objective: To study cases of acute renal failure in children below three years of age in respect to etiology, presentation, laboratory findings and management. Patients and Methods: A study of patients below 3 years of age with acute renal failure admitted at Al-No’man teaching hospital and were followed up in Pediatric Nephrology department in Al-Zahrawee hospital during the period from the 1st of October 2013 to the 1st of October 2015. Results: Forty patients with acute renal failure aging below three years old were included in this study. There were 29 (72.5%) male and 11(27.5%) female children giving male to female ratio of 2.6:1.Most common presentation was decreased urine output and acidotic breathing. Most common complication was seizure in 6(50%) cases. About 14(65.6%) cases needed peritoneal dialysis, 8( 34.4% ) cases responded to medical management, while8(15%) cases died.                                                                                                            Conclusion: Acute renal failure in infants and young children below 3 years of age is not uncommon. It is a preventable disease because most cases are due to pre-renal causes. Prevention and rapid correction of severe dehydration may prevent acute renal failure and consequent complications and death.

In this industrial report, we present the application of an architectural risk assessment of a major digital transformation initiative to validate and improve reliability and performance characteristics. The goal of this paper is to describe our experience adapting the well-known Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM) methodology to perform an architecture risk assessment of the individual components of this initiative. A high-level back-of-the-envelope model was developed to support the iterative ATAM architecture risk assessment of reliability, performance, and scalability business drivers on the industrial project under analysis each highlighted the dependability of the solution. This performance model was validated using measurements of the existing architecture prototype and demonstrated estimated reliability. This paper contributes to presenting the ATAM adaptation details, the technical approach adopted, the challenges encountered, the summary of results, and the lessons learned from the application of the ATAM methodology to understanding software reliability and performance early in the system life-cycle

Decision theory applied to the stock market

It is not uncommon to hear advice from others saying “Go invest your money, leaving it in the bank is useless” or “I regretted not investing earlier on when I was younger”. In this paper, I aim to defend the idea that it is irrational to not invest in the stock markets, or any alternative financial derivative or investment. In the initial section, I will set out to identify and explain the related concepts and theories of money, by looking at the Ontology of Money as well as cryptocurrencies and Non-Fungible Tokens. I will then offer an economic justification upon exploring the main criticisms and advocates of profit. Thereafter, I will attempt to give an outline of the United States’ financial market structure, explore the act of ‘short selling’ and the conflict of interest of the various parties involved. With the various related financial concepts and theories in place, I will then apply decision theory to explore various scenarios in recent market developments including the short selling phenomena as well as the game theory outlook by individual investors. Overall, I conclude that it is rational to invest in the markets as people will be better off doing so than not.Bachelor of Arts in Philosoph
