Reverse Engineering Socialbot Infiltration Strategies in Twitter
Data extracted from social networks like Twitter are increasingly being used
to build applications and services that mine and summarize public reactions to
events, such as traffic monitoring platforms, identification of epidemic
outbreaks, and public perception about people and brands. However, such
services are vulnerable to attacks from socialbots automated accounts that
mimic real users seeking to tamper statistics by posting messages generated
automatically and interacting with legitimate users. Potentially, if created in
large scale, socialbots could be used to bias or even invalidate many existing
services, by infiltrating the social networks and acquiring trust of other
users with time. This study aims at understanding infiltration strategies of
socialbots in the Twitter microblogging platform. To this end, we create 120
socialbot accounts with different characteristics and strategies (e.g., gender
specified in the profile, how active they are, the method used to generate
their tweets, and the group of users they interact with), and investigate the
extent to which these bots are able to infiltrate the Twitter social network.
Our results show that even socialbots employing simple automated mechanisms are
able to successfully infiltrate the network. Additionally, using a
factorial design, we quantify infiltration effectiveness of different bot
strategies. Our analysis unveils findings that are key for the design of
detection and counter measurements approaches
Incluindo dados fisiológicos na ciência do comportamento: uma análise crítica Including physiological data in a science of behavior: a critical analysis
Palavras-chave: análise do comportamento, neurociência, dados fisiológicos, reducionismo Abstract The position of behavior analysts on the inclusion of physiological data in behavior analysis varies. David Schaal, a contemporary behavior analyst, addressed advantages of such inclusion to behavior analysis in four points: (a) identification of retention mechanisms of operant conditioning; (b) physiology provides explanations when descriptions are not sufficient; (c) elucidation of cellular and neural mechanisms of reinforcement; and (d) characterization of degenerative alterations in the brain. The present paper provides further discussion of these points as to whether they truly represent an advantage to behavior analysis. It is argued and exemplified that behavior analysis and neuroscience are not mutually exclusive. Finally, the conditions under which the inclusion of physiological data in behavior analysis represents an advantage to the field are delineated

Face Tracking: An approach for face identification, recognition and tracking for low-cost environments
Abstract. Applicable facial identification and recognition are great trends nowadays, representing a powerful tool needed in various application domains. Its use varies from authentication purposes, business intelligence, emotion recognition, and security services. For this last one, a very desirable application is the use of several cameras geographically sparse, where specific individuals can be recognized for crowded environments. This paper proposes the use of face recognition and identification to help in the development of a low-cost tool. A dataset with several face photos was built to simulate our experimental environment. The obtained preliminary results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed approach for security applications
