A Comparison of UWB Communication Characteristics for Different Distribution of People and Various Materials of Walls
[[abstract]]A comparison of UWB communication characteristics for different distribution of people and various materials of walls in real environments are investigated. By using the impulse response of these multi-path channels, the mean excess delay, root mean square delay spread, and the number of multi-path arrivals within 10 dB of the peak multi-path arrival (NP10 dB), and the number of paths required to meet the 85% energy capture threshold (NP(85%)) for these cases have been obtained. [[abstract]]A comparison of UWB communication characteristics for different distribution of people and various materials of walls in real environments is investigated. The impulse responses of these cases are computed by applying shooting and bouncing ray/image (SBR/Image) techniques and inverse Fourier transform. The frequency dependence utilized in the structure on the indoor channel is accounted for in the channel calculation. By using the impulse response of these multi-path channels, the mean excess delay, root mean square (RMS) delay spread, the number of multi-path arrivals within 10 dB of the peak multi-path arrival (NP10dB), and the number of paths required to meet the 85% energy capture threshold (NP (85%)) for these different distribution of people and various materials of walls have been obtained. The bit error rate (BER) performance for UWB indoor communication is calculated. The outage probability for binary antipodal-pulse amplitude modulation (B-PAM) system has been presented. Numerical results have shown that the multi-path effect by people is an important factor for BER performance. Some different distribution of people and various materials of walls have been very carefully investigated. Quantitative agreement of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions for domain-wall motion and spin-wave propagation
The magnetic exchange interaction is the one of the key factors governing the
basic characteristics of magnetic systems. Unlike the symmetric nature of the
Heisenberg exchange interaction, the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya
interaction (DMI) generates an antisymmetric exchange interaction which offers
challenging opportunities in spintronics with intriguing antisymmetric
phenomena. The role of the DMI, however, is still being debated, largely
because distinct strengths of DMI have been measured for different magnetic
objects, particularly chiral magnetic domain walls (DWs) and non-reciprocal
spin waves (SWs). In this paper, we show that, after careful data analysis,
both the DWs and SWs experience the same strength of DMI. This was confirmed by
spin-torque efficiency measurement for the DWs, and Brillouin light scattering
measurement for the SWs. This observation, therefore, indicates the unique role
of the DMI on the magnetic DW and SW dynamics and also guarantees the
compatibility of several DMI-measurement schemes recently proposed.Comment: 24 pages, 5 figure
Optimal Receiver Antenna Location in Indoor Environment Using Dynamic Differential Evolution and Genetic Algorithm
[[abstract]]Using the impulse responses of these multipath channels, the bit error rate (BER) performance for binary pulse amplitude modulation impulse radio ultra-wideband communication system is calculated. The optimization location of receiving antenna is investigated by dynamic differential evolution (DDE) and genetic algorithm (GA) to minimize the outage probability. JNK signalling in cancer: In need of new, smarter therapeutic targets

It is increasingly apparent that persistent activation of JNKs is involved in cancer development and progression. Therefore, JNKs represent attractive targets for therapeutic intervention with small molecule kinase inhibitors. However, evidence supportive of a tumour suppressor role for the JNK proteins has also been documented. Recent studies showed that the two major JNK proteins, JNK1 and JNK2, have distinct or even opposing functions in different types of cancer. As such, close consideration of which JNK proteins are beneficial targets and, more importantly, what effect small molecule inhibitors of JNKs have on physiological processes, are essential. A number of ATP-competitive and ATP-non-competitive JNK inhibitors have been developed, but have several limitations such as a lack of specificity and cellular toxicity. In this review, we summarize the accumulating evidence supporting a role for the JNK proteins in the pathogenesis of different solid and haematological malignancies, and discuss many challenges and scientific opportunities in the targeting of JNKs in cancer.Kay Kendall Leukemia Fund,

Session D5: Current Status of Fish Passages in South Korea
Abstract:
Weirs are important for countries that agriculture is the primary industry due to the stable supply of water to agricultural fields. Because agriculture is still important in Korean peninsula, weirs have been constructing until now from small streams to large rivers. However, only limited fish passages were installed in weirs, and there were no managements. As a results, streams and rivers have become highly fragmented, with fish migration being severely impeded. Thus, ministry of agriculture, food and rural affairs investigated entire fish passages in Korea in 2010-2011, and estimated current status and problems. A total of 33,718 weirs were installed (until year 2012), and this means that weirs are arithmetically located every 0.81km of the total stream length in Korea. Fish passages, however, were constructed only in 4,496 weirs (13.3% of installation rate). The weir type fish passages with Ice- Harbor type fishways (8.1%) which are favoured nowadays was showed the greatest number (36%), and the vertical slot type passages was in the second place (31%). The denil type and nature-like type were rarely installed. Only 18.1% of installed fish passages were left whole, and urgent repair is needed for 56.7%. Fish passages of 31.3% were incorporated into the recommended slope range of Korea (1:20). Most of problems are related discharge, poor entrance, breakage and sedimentation. With these structural problems, discontinuous installation of fish passages generates poor continuity of streams. Currently, to improve stream connectivity many projects from Korean government are now conducting and preparing, and additionally development of fish passages specialized for Korean fishes are required
A standardized formula for aesthetic mandibular reconstruction using an osteocutaneous fibular free flap
Ameloblastoma is the most common benign odontogenic tumor of the jaw, and expansional growth of a huge untreated ameloblastoma can result in disturbances in facial aesthetics and function, such as difficulty with mouth opening, swallowing, chewing, breathing, neurologic deficits, and pathologic fractures. Radical wide resection with safety margins and subsequent reconstruction is generally recommended. A fibular free flap (FFF) is commonlyused to reconstruct the mandible in order to adequately restore both aesthetic appearance and function. The aim of this brief clinical report is to present a case of huge ameloblastoma after wide resection with free safety margins, and describe the immediate one-step mandibular reconstruction using a vascularized composite FFF. The sterolithographic(rapid prototype, RP) model, a wax pattern of the resected mandible, and a surgical fibular stent made from the wax pattern were constructed preoperatively. Pan-Cancer Analysis of lncRNA Regulation Supports Their Targeting of Cancer Genes in Each Tumor Context
Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are commonly dys-regulated in tumors, but only a handful are known toplay pathophysiological roles in cancer. We inferredlncRNAs that dysregulate cancer pathways, onco-genes, and tumor suppressors (cancer genes) bymodeling their effects on the activity of transcriptionfactors, RNA-binding proteins, and microRNAs in5,185 TCGA tumors and 1,019 ENCODE assays.Our predictions included hundreds of candidateonco- and tumor-suppressor lncRNAs (cancerlncRNAs) whose somatic alterations account for thedysregulation of dozens of cancer genes and path-ways in each of 14 tumor contexts. To demonstrateproof of concept, we showed that perturbations tar-geting OIP5-AS1 (an inferred tumor suppressor) andTUG1 and WT1-AS (inferred onco-lncRNAs) dysre-gulated cancer genes and altered proliferation ofbreast and gynecologic cancer cells. Our analysis in-dicates that, although most lncRNAs are dysregu-lated in a tumor-specific manner, some, includingOIP5-AS1, TUG1, NEAT1, MEG3, and TSIX, synergis-tically dysregulate cancer pathways in multiple tumorcontexts
