Study of Repair Protocols for Live Video Streaming Distributed Systems
International audience—We study distributed systems for live video streaming. These systems can be of two types: structured and un-structured. In an unstructured system, the diffusion is done opportunistically. The advantage is that it handles churn, that is the arrival and departure of users, which is very high in live streaming systems, in a smooth way. On the opposite, in a structured system, the diffusion of the video is done using explicit diffusion trees. The advantage is that the diffusion is very efficient, but the structure is broken by the churn. In this paper, we propose simple distributed repair protocols to maintain, under churn, the diffusion tree of a structured streaming system. We study these protocols using formal analysis and simulation. In particular, we provide an estimation of the system metrics, bandwidth usage, delay, or number of interruptions of the streaming. Our work shows that structured streaming systems can be efficient and resistant to churn
Bandpass delta sigma optimization using parameter identification
International audienceIn this paper, a new method to optimize the noise shape of a bandpass delta sigma (BPDS) modulator for a digital transmitter is presented. The optimal coefficients of BPDS structure are obtained by minimization of a quadratic criterion based on prediction error. To demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach, simulated results for a 6th order BPDS structure are presented

This review presents a comprehensive perspective on the transformative role of digital innovations—including artificial intelligence (AI), geographic information systems (GIS), and blockchain—in enhancing the visibility, efficiency, and transparency of resource management systems. It also highlights the mathematical and algorithmic frameworks, such as Pinch Analysis or optimization approaches, that underpin modern techniques used to address complex resource allocation problems. The paper further discusses emerging directions to underscore the need for interdisciplinary collaboration and policy alignment. This article aims to inform stakeholders and researchers on the integrative potential of technology and optimization approaches in driving resilient, data-driven, and equitable resource management practices
The sources for the circulation of books in Rouen during the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries are particularly rich, and for some of them are still waiting to be exploited, especially in terms of the transmission of texts. From a fragment of a “loan register” from Saint-Ouen (1372-1378) and the records of deliberations conserved for the chapter of Notre-Dame of Rouen (1367-1493), it is proposed here, for these two libraries, to analyse principally loans, but also other forms of book circulation (sales, exchanges…, excluding bequests and donations): what were the terms of manuscript loan? who benefited from the circulation of books? which texts circulated in Rouen at the end of the Middle Ages? One of the last points, which is only hardly evoked here, concerns the vocabulary used during the lending process
Load-pull circles analysis method for aplying the outphasing technique in power amplifier design
This paper presents a simple way of analyzing the suitability of a power amplifier for its use in an outphasing system. Simple steps are presented, allowing the designer to decide in advance if the outphasing technique will improve the efficiency versus back-off characteristic of the amplifier. For validating the method, an outphasing system for a Class AB amplifier has been designed, simulated and measured. In addition, a Class D amplifier has been also simulated to make a comparison of the results
Integrated Approach of Intelligent Asset Maintenance and Resource Conservation for Circular Economy
Rostoucí problémy s nepravidelným zásobováním vodou a znečištěním vody vyžadují pokročilejší metodiky hodnocení vodních zdrojů, které by vedly k praktickému využívání vody a hospodaření s ní. The rapid global industrialisation and urbanisation have placed heavy burdens on natural material resources consumption. For example, water scarcity and water pollution have been affecting human lives and economic developments for a long time, and resorting to clean fresh water has been becoming an important issue. The increasing irregular water supply and water pollution issues require more advanced water resources assessment methodologies to guide practical water use and management. Another well-known issue is the plastic waste accumulation in the option, which raises an alarming concern in achieving the optimal resources conservation network, striving towards the goal of Circular Economy. The Circular Economy concept not only focuses on resources conservation but also highlights the importance of maintaining and preserving the assets’ lifetime. This thesis is focused on developing advanced approaches for resources conservation and asset maintenance This thesis presents the extended analysis of Pinch-based methods in conserving the material resources for an industrial site. The major extensions involve the conceptual analysis on the resource conservation network that involves multiple qualities constraints, headers targeting and synthesis, and Total Site material conservation network synthesis. These methods serve as the graphical user interface for the users to select the preferable design options while ensuring the fresh resources consumptions are minimal. The study also extends the incorporation of different types of resources, such as heat and water, into the conservation network. The management issues such as resources management, subsidies and cost allocations are also studied for the eco-industrial site. Considering the asset’s lifetime prolongation, the long-term planning of a process or industrial site is incorporated in this study covering the assets’ age, depreciation and reliability. Process Integration tools are proposed to plan for the maintenance cost for a time period and workforce scheduling. The study is also extended to more analysis involving standby units and technologies investment for any process. Combining asset performance with resources conservation, the fault diagnosis and prognosis framework is applied to the Total Site/Eco-industrial park asset maintenance planning.
