Українська ідентичність у ситуації цивілізаційного розлому (Ukrainian Identity in a Situation of Civilizational Fault)
(The problems of national identity are particularly exacerbated in the context of globalization. On the other hand, globalization creates the modern person need for deep rootedness. Therefore, the process of globalization and preservation of national identity are interdependent.
In the post-Cold War, according to the philosopher S. Huntington, civilizational identities have become more important.
However, differences between major civilizations generate a threat of serious conflicts on a fault line. Specificity
of Ukrainian identity is that it is precisely in line civilized fault.
However, the situation in Ukraine between Western and Orthodox civilizations should be considered, according to
the author, the axiological dimension. Preservation of Ukrainian national identity means protecting important values such as human dignity, its rights and freedoms, individualism, the rule of law. Ukraine and Europe in this context are connected tightly. Today, the primary task for Europe – is the preservation of its own values. Interestingly, in terms of civilizational conflict in Ukraine is now ongoing struggle for the preservation of European values.
Today, in the situation of historic challenge it is important for Ukrainian nation to revive and maintain their own national identity. Top priority task – finding ways to consolidate the nation. Considering the historical background, when Ukrainian nation was divided in different ways, we need to focus now on the formation of a unified concept of national memory. This will form a solid strategy for national reconciliation.
In addition, in today’s world for a harmonious and peaceful coexistence of different civilizations is important to
create a flexible model of multiculturalism. It is important that the latest technological advances are supplemented with
moral maturity and spiritual development of civilizations.
Конструкт національної пам’яті та його вплив на формування української культурної ідентичності (The construct of national memory and its influence on the formation of Ukrainian cultural identity)
(The article is dedicated to the research of the relevant problems in modern conditions in Ukraine. The author justifies the necessity of development of the new construct of national memory, the formation of a new unified cultural identity and a young Ukrainian political nation. The scientific research is based on the phenomenological and hermeneutic methodology, as well as on the elements of psychoanalysis. By means of comparative analysis the author analyzes the basic concepts of Western scholars regarding memory
problems, particularly, M. Halbwachs, J. Assmann, P. Nora, P. Konnerton and others. Most of them use the term ‘collective memory’, which was introduced into scientific circulation by M. Halbwachs. At the same time, major attention is paid to structural and functional analysis of collective memory as to a social phenomenon, and to distinguishing different types of memory, which, to some extent, influence the formation of cultural identity.
The author identifies two main tendencies to sovle issues of national memory policy in Ukrainian society: excessive
and insufficient. In the context of the second tendency, which lies in insufficient attention of the state and society to the national memory policy, the author analyzes specific ‘victim memory’ as a kind of peculiar collective mechanism which leads to forgetting the past events that are experienced by society as traumatic.
Sociological researches argue that the history of the Ukrainian people in the twentieth century is full of traumatic events, the memory of which separates the current Ukrainian society. But Ukrainian society needs to discuss these issues in the public discourse. The events of the last three years, on the contrary, can consolidate the Ukrainian nation. So now it is very important to work on the elaboration of – common culture and societal values.
Creating a corporate image in the context of talent management
The term "employer branding" is relatively new. It shows the trend in
the labor market, to attract high-potential employees, with highly specialized
knowledge – so called talents. Talent management is a relatively new concept
that shows the company’s management of its strategic capital which is human
capital. An employer’s brand which is positively perceived helps to attract
talent into the ranks of employees, which is the main goal of the considerations
contained in this paper. The paper is theoretical in nature and was based on
the subject literature
Multimodal Compact Bilinear Pooling for Visual Question Answering and Visual Grounding
Modeling textual or visual information with vector representations trained
from large language or visual datasets has been successfully explored in recent
years. However, tasks such as visual question answering require combining these
vector representations with each other. Approaches to multimodal pooling
include element-wise product or sum, as well as concatenation of the visual and
textual representations. We hypothesize that these methods are not as
expressive as an outer product of the visual and textual vectors. As the outer
product is typically infeasible due to its high dimensionality, we instead
propose utilizing Multimodal Compact Bilinear pooling (MCB) to efficiently and
expressively combine multimodal features. We extensively evaluate MCB on the
visual question answering and grounding tasks. We consistently show the benefit
of MCB over ablations without MCB. For visual question answering, we present an
architecture which uses MCB twice, once for predicting attention over spatial
features and again to combine the attended representation with the question
representation. This model outperforms the state-of-the-art on the Visual7W
dataset and the VQA challenge.Comment: Accepted to EMNLP 201
Computational fluid dynamicaccuracy in mimicking changes in blood hemodynamics in patients with acute type IIIb aortic dissection treated with TEVAR
Background: We aimed to verify the accuracy of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) algorithm for blood flow reconstruction for type IIIb aortic dissection (TBAD) before and after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). Methods: We made 3D models of the aorta and its branches using pre- and post-operative CT data from five patients treated for TBAD. The CFD technique was used to quantify the displacement forces acting on the aortic wall in the areas of endograft, mass flow rate/velocity and wall shear stress (WSS). Calculated results were verified with ultrasonography (USG-Doppler) data. Results: CFD results indicated that the TEVAR procedure caused a 7-fold improvement in overall blood flow through the aorta (p = 0.0001), which is in line with USG-Doppler data. A comparison of CFD results and USG-Doppler data indicated no significant change in blood flow through the analysed arteries. CFD also showed a significant increase in flow rate for thoracic trunk and renal arteries, which was in accordance with USG-Doppler data (accuracy 90% and 99.9%). Moreover, we observed a significant decrease in WSS values within the whole aorta after TEVAR compared to pre-TEVAR (1.34 ± 0.20 Pa vs. 3.80 ± 0.59 Pa, respectively, p = 0.0001). This decrease was shown by a significant reduction in WSS and WSS contours in the thoracic aorta (from 3.10 ± 0.27 Pa to 1.34 ± 0.11Pa, p = 0.043) and renal arteries (from 4.40 ± 0.25 Pa to 1.50 ± 0.22 Pa p = 0.043). Conclusions: Post-operative remodelling of the aorta after TEVAR for TBAD improved hemodynamic patterns reflected by flow, velocity and WSS with an accuracy of 99%
Attentive Explanations: Justifying Decisions and Pointing to the Evidence (Extended Abstract)
Deep models are the defacto standard in visual decision problems due to their
impressive performance on a wide array of visual tasks. On the other hand,
their opaqueness has led to a surge of interest in explainable systems. In this
work, we emphasize the importance of model explanation in various forms such as
visual pointing and textual justification. The lack of data with justification
annotations is one of the bottlenecks of generating multimodal explanations.
Thus, we propose two large-scale datasets with annotations that visually and
textually justify a classification decision for various activities, i.e. ACT-X,
and for question answering, i.e. VQA-X. We also introduce a multimodal
methodology for generating visual and textual explanations simultaneously. We
quantitatively show that training with the textual explanations not only yields
better textual justification models, but also models that better localize the
evidence that support their decision.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1612.0475
Multimodal Explanations: Justifying Decisions and Pointing to the Evidence
Deep models that are both effective and explainable are desirable in many
settings; prior explainable models have been unimodal, offering either
image-based visualization of attention weights or text-based generation of
post-hoc justifications. We propose a multimodal approach to explanation, and
argue that the two modalities provide complementary explanatory strengths. We
collect two new datasets to define and evaluate this task, and propose a novel
model which can provide joint textual rationale generation and attention
visualization. Our datasets define visual and textual justifications of a
classification decision for activity recognition tasks (ACT-X) and for visual
question answering tasks (VQA-X). We quantitatively show that training with the
textual explanations not only yields better textual justification models, but
also better localizes the evidence that supports the decision. We also
qualitatively show cases where visual explanation is more insightful than
textual explanation, and vice versa, supporting our thesis that multimodal
explanation models offer significant benefits over unimodal approaches.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1612.0475
