In the geotectonic context of the Salvador-Curaçá Orogen, north portion of the São Francisco Craton, an association of mafic-ultramafic (M-UM) rocks was identified and described in this paper as the Riacho do Mocambo Mafic- Ultramafic Body (RMMUB). Despite being located approximately 60 km from the Vale do Jacurici Complex (VJC), the host of Brazil’s largest reserves of  Cr, the RMMUB has never been associated with this Complex in regional geologic mapping projects. When it is mentioned in the bibliography, the M- UM rocks of the RMMUB are genetically related to the São José do Jacuípe Suite (SJJS). While the VJC is described as differentiated sills, associated with a synorogenic to a tardi-orogenic event, the SJJS is interpreted as fragments of an Archean-Paleoproterozoic oceanic crust or as a Gabbro- Anorthosite Stratiform Complex. Such contrasting genesis raised doubts about the RMMUB’s origin and field work along with geochemical analyses were carried out in order to better understand the possible source of the RMMUB. In the field, the RMMUB exhibits an elongated shape of small thickness (7 km of extension by less than 100 m of apparent thickness), displayed concordantly with the Tanque Novo-Ipirá Complex metasediments. In the mapped outcrops it is possible to observe the rhythmic and gradual alternation amid the lithotypes of the RMMUB, varying from serpentinite to metagabbro, suggesting that it is a layered igneous body. The geochemical results support the primitive aspect of the ultramafic rocks of this body (MgO up to 38 wt.%; Ni up to 2972 ppm; Cr up to 7799 ppm) and suggest that the RMMUB shows distinctive characteristics from the SJJS, but similar ones with magma of the VJC such as geochemical signatures, source, depth, and tectonic environment. The discovery of this new M-UM body in an area of great metallogenic fertility opens a potential for the identification of new Cr mineralization and magmatic sulfides of Ni, Cu, and EGP, in the Salvador- Curaçá Orogen, São Francisco Craton, the northeast region of the state of Bahia

Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq)A novel gold(I) complex with rimantadine (RTD) was obtained and structurally characterized by a set of chemical and spectroscopic analysis. H-1, C-13 and N-15 nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and infrared (IR) spectroscopic measurements suggest coordination of the ligand to Au(I) through the N atom of the ethanamine group. Theoretical (DFT) calculations confirmed the IR assignments and permit proposing an optimized geometry for the complex. The gold(I)-rimantadine complex (Au-RTD) is soluble in methanol, ethanol, dimethylsulfoxide, acetone and acetonitrile. The preliminary kinetic studies based on UV-vis spectroscopic measurements indicate the stability of the compound in solution. Antibacterial activities of the complex were evaluated by an antibiogram assay. The Au-RTD complex showed an effective in vitro antibacterial activity against the Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli (Gram-negative), and Staphylococcus aureus (Gram-positive) bacterial strains. No entanto, na posição deitada sobre o lado afetado, houve piora significativa da Pa02.The purpose of this study was to analyse the effects of sitting, supine and laterals positions on arterial oxygen tension (Pa02) and arterial carbon dioxide tension (PaC02), in 21 adults patients, carier of some pulmonary unilateral disfunction, in recent post-operative cardiac surgery. The diagnosis of the pulmonary disfunction was done through radiographic torax evaluation. The patients stayed during 15 minutes in each position and after this, the arterial blood gases were measured. Based on Friedman test and Multiple Comparation test (a = 0,05), it was found that the Pa02 was significantly higher when the patients were lying on the "healthy'' side or in supine position; the Pa02 was significantly lower when the patients where lying on the "sick" side. No significant changes in PaC02 were noted

The effects of drugs, ions, and poly-l-lysine on the excretory system of Schistosoma mansoni

We have been able to label the excretory system of cercariae and all forms of schistosomula, immature and adult worms with the highly fluorescent dye resorufin. We have shown that the accumulation of the resorufin into the excretory tubules and collecting ducts of the male adult worm depends on the presence of extracellular calcium and phosphate ions. In the adult male worms, praziquantel (PZQ) prevents this accumulation in RPMI medium and disperses resorufin from tubules which have been prelabelled. Female worms and all other developmental stages are much less affected either by the presence of calcium and phosphate ions, or the disruption caused by PZQ. The male can inhibit the excretory system in paired female. Fluorescent PZQ localises in the posterior gut (intestine) region of the male adult worm, but not in the excretory system, except for the anionic carboxy fluorescein derivative of PZQ, which may be excreted by this route. All stages of the parasite can recover from damage by PZQ treatment in vitro. The excretory system is highly sensitive to damage to the surface membrane and may be involved in vesicle movement and damage repair processes. In vivo the adult parasite does not recover from PZQ treatment, but what is inhibiting recovery is unknown, but likely to be related to immune effector molecules

There has been a growing interest in the cross-cultural application of psychological questionnaires to assess anxiety. The translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the original instrument is the first step in validating an instrument in a new population that will permit comparisons between different populations. The goals of this study were to translate the Cardiac Anxiety Questionnaire, assess its semantic equivalence, and perform a preliminary test with participants from the Brazilian population that were drawn from different educational backgrounds. METHOD: The cross-cultural adaptation process consisted of two translations and back translations performed by two independent evaluators; a critical evaluation of the two versions, and the development of a synthesized version. We also examined comments provided by participants on the preliminary version of the questionnaire and used them for the development of the final version. RESULTS: We report the results of the four stages for each item of the instrument. Participants with tertiary education had no difficulties comprehending the translated items of the questionnaire, only pointing item 5 as ambiguous. Participants from the lower educational level reported comprehension problems regarding items 2, 4, 6, 7, 10, 11 and 14. Some small changes were made in our first version to enhance comprehensibility. CONCLUSION: The use of two versions of translations, a critical examination of the two versions, and suggestions made by participants resulted in a final Brazilian version with a satisfactory degree of semantic accuracy and semantic equivalence with the original version
