Feedback and emotions in the trust game
We conduct an experiment on the impact of feedback in the Trust Game. In our treatment group, the Trustee has the opportunity to give feedback to the Investor (free in choice of wording and contents). The feedback option is found to reduce the share of Investors who sent no resources to the Trustee, while the impact on average behavior is less pronounced. The notion proposed by Xiao and Houser (2005, PNAS) according to which verbal feedback and monetary sanctions are substitutes is not supported. We use the PANAS-scale (Mackinnon et al., 1999) to capture change in subjects' short-run affective state during the experiment. Receiving feedback has an impact on the Investors' short-run affective state but giving feedback is not found to have an effect on Trustees' short-run affective state
A Conceptual Framework to Explain Transition of Intercultural Communication Conflict, Social Environment and Personality
This study conceptually examines a comprehensive framework that integrates intercultural communication competence (ICC) as a key perspective to better understand intercultural communication conflict in multicultural social environment. Although numerous researchers have studied extensive topics of intercultural communication in various literatures, none have conceptualized on the critical role of ICC or incorporated the construct as a major predictor to intercultural communication conflict and loyalty. ICC explains the ability to consider and internalize the various cultural settings to appropriately manage and build an effective communication in the multicultural atmosphere. ICC, which deals with having the right intercultural mind set, skill and sensitivity is crucial for intercultural encounters particularly in the culturally diverse societies. While, ICC has generated a lot of recent interest amongst scholars and practitioners, there is still a gap on the conceptualization to support or validate its theoretical claims. Hence, the study exposes additional insights into some practical and conceptual solutions for addressing the intercultural communication of culturally diverse encounters in culturally diverse social environment. These contributions postulate an impetus for future research in various service settings
The Role of Social Environment and Personality: Validation of Antecedents of Intercultural Communication Competence and its Effects on Customer Satisfaction
The article aims to better understand the impact of intercultural communication, social environment and personality on customer satisfaction and loyalty in grocery retailing. In this endeavour, the study illustrates the unique context of intercultural communication, to highlight several improvements in the literature, and to encourage the advancement of the intercultural communication in the literature. To initiate the research, a survey approach was taken. 681 questionnaires were returned out of 1100 that were distributed within selected grocery retailers in Klang Valley, Malaysia. The measurement of the constructs and their interrelationships are examined based on partial least square-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings validate the proposed framework with statistically significant relationships among all constructs. Furthermore, it exposes additional insights into some practical and conceptual solutions for addressing the intercultural communication of culturally diverse encounters in the Malaysian grocery retail industry. These contributions postulate an impetus for future research in various service settings. Based on the theories, the study assesses the role of the social environment of grocery retail consumers and their personalities on intercultural communication competence (ICC) and its impact on inter-role congruence and interaction comfort. It is anticipated that by filling this knowledge gap, the research will assist in strengthening retail communication strategies, which require intercultural communication adjustments in a multicultural business environment. The ICC is expected to improve the retail industry competitiveness when it positively influences inter-role congruence and interaction comfort among customers
Colonic perforation during barium enema in a patient without known colonic disease: a case report
The barium enema is a safe and accurate diagnostic study of the colon but, in rare cases, causes complications, such as colonic perforation. A colon weakened by iatrogenic trauma due to the enema tip and/or retention balloon, or by disease is more likely to perforate during an enema than is a normal healthy bowel. Rarely the colon may burst due to excessive transmural pressure alone. We report a case of colonic perforation during barium enema in a 72-year-old female patient, due to excessive barium applied into the rectum
Generative Language Models on Nucleotide Sequences of Human Genes
Language models, primarily transformer-based ones, obtained colossal success
in NLP. To be more precise, studies like BERT in NLU and works such as GPT-3
for NLG are very crucial. DNA sequences are very close to natural language in
terms of structure, so if the DNA-related bioinformatics domain is concerned,
discriminative models, like DNABert, exist. Yet, the generative side of the
coin is mainly unexplored to the best of our knowledge. Consequently, we
focused on developing an autoregressive generative language model like GPT-3
for DNA sequences. Because working with whole DNA sequences is challenging
without substantial computational resources, we decided to carry out our study
on a smaller scale, focusing on nucleotide sequences of human genes, unique
parts in DNA with specific functionalities, instead of the whole DNA. This
decision did not change the problem structure a lot due to the fact that both
DNA and genes can be seen as 1D sequences consisting of four different
nucleotides without losing much information and making too much simplification.
First of all, we systematically examined an almost entirely unexplored problem
and observed that RNNs performed the best while simple techniques like N-grams
were also promising. Another beneficial point was learning how to work with
generative models on languages we do not understand, unlike natural language.
How essential using real-life tasks beyond the classical metrics such as
perplexity is observed. Furthermore, checking whether the data-hungry nature of
these models can be changed through selecting a language with minimal
vocabulary size, four owing to four different types of nucleotides, is
examined. The reason for reviewing this was that choosing such a language might
make the problem easier. However, what we observed in this study was it did not
provide that much of a change in the amount of data needed
Turkish Validity and Reliability Study of the Generalized Pliance Questionnaire
In this study, the psychometric properties of the Turkish form of the Generalized Pliance Questionnaire
(GPQ), which was developed to measure pliance behavior, one of the rule-governed behavior types
that have a theoretical basis formed by Skinner, were examined in the Turkish community. This study
included 302 people, consisting of 209 women (69.2%) and 93 men (30.8%), aged between 18 and
62 years (29.18±10.05). For the convergent validity study, in addition to the application of GPQ, the
Authenticity Scale, the Need for Social Approval Scale, and the Horney-Coolidge Tridimensional
Inventory were administered to 175 individuals. As a result of the correlation analysis for convergent
validity, significant correlation coefficients were obtained between the scales. Cronbach’s alpha
coefficient of the scale was 0.92. According to the test–retest results applied at 4-week intervals,
the correlation coefficient between the two applications was 0.60. As a result of confirmatory factor
analysis, the goodness-of-fit index values were found at the required level and the proposed model in
the original study was confirmed. In conclusion, the data obtained in this study shows that the GPQ is
a measurement tool with strong psychometric properties and is suitable for use in clinical studies in
the Turkish community

The checklist was examined by on-site detection and observation methods on the seating elements in two shopping malls, one for the upper income group and the other for the middle income group. As a result of the study, it was concluded that more attention should be paid to the conformity of function, social comfort and safety issues, especially in the design of seating areas
The construction client satisfaction model: a PLS-SEM approach
The satisfaction of the client is of utmost importance in procuring future projects; however, anecdotally client satisfaction (CS) is not adequately considered in many developing countries. Factors associated with the influence of service quality (SQ) on construction client satisfaction and how it affects their behavioural intentions in Cambodia are investigated. A theoretical structural model was developed to investigate the influence of five SQ factors on CS and their links to the future behavioural intentions of the client. A partial least square approach of the structural equation modelling technique (PLS-SEM) was employed to analyse data collected from a questionnaire survey of 227 participants comprising the clients of small and medium size projects. The structural model adapts 22 attributes across five SQ factors, namely: reliability; responsiveness; assurance; empathy, and tangible factors. PLS-SEM outcomes confirmed that the future behavioural intentions of the client are influenced by their satisfaction over the service excellence provided by construction companies. Moreover, treating every client individually and demonstrating an approachable attitude towards their needs will increase their satisfaction with the experience they had with a contractor. Findings and recommendations of the study may be useful to construction companies who are seeking ways to improve CS in developing countries
