Extended X ray absorption fine structure EXAFS data and magnetic EXAFS MEXAFS data were measured at two temperatures 180 K and 296 K in the energy region of the overlapping L edges of bcc Fe grown on a V 110 crystal surface. In combination with a Bayes Turchin data analysis procedure these measurements enable the exploration of local crystallographic and magnetic structures. The analysis determined the atomic like background together with the EXAFS parameters which consisted of 10 shell radii, the Debye Waller parameters, separated into structural and vibrational components, and the third cumulant of the first scattering path. The vibrational components for 97 different scattering paths were determined by a two parameter force field model using a priori values adjusted to Born von Karman parameters of inelastic neutron scattering data. The investigations of the system Fe V 110 demonstrate that the simultaneous fitting of atomic background parameters and EXAFS parameters can be performed reliably. Using the L2 and L3 components extracted from the EXAFS analysis and the rigid band model, the MEXAFS oscillations can only be described when the sign of the exchange energy is changed compared to the predictions of the Hedin Lundquist exchange and correlation functiona

The study of normative corpora of the past is a key activity in the fields of Religious Studies and Legal History. The development of intelligent software tools that support this activity is of paramount importance to support the digital transformation of the community. We present an interdisciplinary activity that lead to an accurate automatic annotation of legal references in the Liber Extra’s Ordinary Gloss. An index of legal references as been derived from the annotations enabling the creation of novel navigation and data analysis tools. The contribution of this work is twofold: the actual index is already by itself valuable resource for the discipline, and we detail the process that lead to its production, showing that an effective result can be delivered by a small team with limited resources. Both the index and the code are made publicly available

    Get PDF
The Church has always firmly condemned female prostitution. However, from the earliest centuries of Christianity, an ambiguous attitude emerged, characterized by a pragmatic acceptance based on the argument that prostitution was a «lesser evil» for society. One of the debated issues concerned the possibility of marrying a prostitute. During the first millennium, there was a clear prohibition on this matter, but from the 11th century onwards, a more open stance emerged, culminating in the explicit recognition of the legitimacy of such unions, provided that certain moral requirements and purposes were respected

    Get PDF
A conclusão é a de que o princípio da vedação do retrocesso é fundamento jurídico válido para sustentar a autovinculação do Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF) em relação a seus precedentes que, em algum momento, avançaram na proteção dos direitos fundamentais daqueles grupos de pessoasThis research has as its theme the principle of the principle of prohibition of setback and, as an objective, its application to the Judiciary, more specifically to the Supreme Federal Court, as a way of strengthening self-binding to its precedents that, at some point, represented advances in the protection of fundamental rights and guarantees of vulnerable and/or minority groups, more specifically in the case of the principle of presumption of innocence, protecting accused persons in criminal proceedings and preventing the provisional execution of the sentence from the second degree of criminal jurisdiction. The choice of theme arose from the observation, in recent years, of the jurisprudential changes that occurred within the STF in relation to the principle of presumption of innocence, without there being greater concern with objective criteria strengthened to overruling the precedent that, in 2009, represented the broader protection of that fundamental guarantee. The simple change in the composition of the Court was enough to, in 2016, after only seven years of the emancipatory decision, retreat in relation to the fundamental guarantee of the presumption of innocence. This observation also raised concerns about the stability of any precedents of the STF in terms of fundamental rights held by vulnerable and/or minority groups, especially considering the political instability experienced in Brazil, at least in the last ten years, resulting from the extreme political polarization within society, and the growing populist criminal movements, circumstances that can contribute to the erosion of the country's democratic foundations. Finally, it is a bibliographic review research, with a case study. At first, the theoretical and jurisprudential aspects of the principle of prohibition of setback were analyzed, moving on, then, to the study of the expansion of the constitutional jurisdiction of the STF and the formation of binding precedents with a true nature of a source of Law, to, at the same time, finally, to suggest a stronger model for overruling binding precedents when referring to fundamental rights and guarantees of vulnerable and/or minority groups, as in the case of the presumption of innocence of persons accused in criminal proceedings. The conclusion is that the principle of prohibition of setback is a valid legal basis to support the self-binding of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) in relation to its precedents that, at some point, advanced in the protection of the fundamental rights of those groups of peopl

From theory to action: what motivates consumers to purchase IoT sustainable products

    Get PDF
In an era marked by the importance of sustainability and technological integration, this paper explores the drivers behind sustainable consumption in a rapidly evolving market, focusing on Romanian consumer perspectives towards sustainable products driven by the relationship between the circular economy and the Internet of Things (IoT). Leveraging structural equation modelling, we conduct a thorough survey to investigate the roles of shaping purchase behaviors within the context of the circular economy and IoT integration. The findings reveal that while environmental attitudes significantly influence purchase intentions, price sensitivity and perceived value play a crucial role in shaping consumer choices. From a theoretical perspective, this study highlights the interplay between sustainability concerns and market dynamics, contributing to the broader understanding of sustainable purchase behavior. From a managerial perspective, the results provide actionable insights for businesses to design value-aligned strategies, ensuring that sustainable products are both accessible and appealing to a diverse consumer base. This dual focus on theory and practice offers a roadmap for fostering responsible consumption in a competitive marketplace

O SUPREMO TRIBUNAL FEDERAL E A INCONSTITUCIONALIDADE DO CRIME DE POSSE DE DROGAS PARA CONSUMO PESSOAL: ATÉ QUANDO?

    Get PDF

Perlite waste as a precursor for geopolymer formation.

Waste perlite can be reacted with alkaline solutions to form crystalline zeolite 4A and other minor crystalline phases. The fine majority fraction of the waste was fairly reactive and the coarse fraction largely acted as a filler. This geopolymer had poor compressive strength, but when perlite was used in conjunction with flyash, geopolymers of acceptable mechanical properties could be made. Perlite shows significant reaction with 10 Mol/L NaOH solution at ˜70°C, with hydroxysodalite appearing as a reaction product. © 2009, The Australian Ceramic Societ

Protective effect of procyanidin-rich grape seed extract against Gram-negative virulence factors

Biofilm formation and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) are implicated in the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal (GI) diseases caused by Gram-negative bacteria. Grape seeds, wine industry by-products, have antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. In the present study, the protective effect of procyanidin-rich grape seed extract (prGSE), from unfermented pomace of Vitis vinifera L. cv Bellone, on bacterial LPS-induced oxidative stress and epithelial barrier integrity damage has been studied in a model of Caco-2 cells. The prGSE was characterized at the molecular level using HPLC and NMR. The in vitro activity of prGSE against formation of biofilm of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium and Escherichia coli was investigated. In vivo, prGSE activity using infected Galleria mellonella larvae has been evaluated. The results show that the prGSE, if administered with LPS, can significantly reduce the LPS-induced permeability alteration. Moreover, the ability of the extract to prevent Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production induced by the LPS treatment of Caco-2 cells was demonstrated. prGSE inhibited the biofilm formation of E. coli and S. Typhimurium. In terms of in vivo activity, an increase in survival of infected G. mellonella larvae after treatment with prGSE was demonstrated. In conclusion, grape seed extracts could be used to reduce GI damage caused by bacterial endotoxin and biofilms of Gram-negative bacteria
