    myWebAccess: A platform for repairing, enhancing and re-distributing Web Services accessible to people with disability

    International audienceWeb services are an emerging technology which has attracted much attention from both the research and the industry sectors in recent years. The exploitation of web services as components in web applications facilitates development and supports applications interoperability, regardless of the programming language and platform used. However, existing web services development standards do not take into account the fact that the provided content and the interactive functionality should be accessible to, and easily operable by, people with disabilities. This paper presents a platform named myWebAccess, which provides a mechanism for the semi-automated "repair" of web services' interaction characteristics in order to support the automatic generation of interface elements that conform to the de facto standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0. myWebAccess enhances interaction quality for specific target user groups, including people with visual and motor disabilities, and supports the use of web services on diverse platforms (e.g., mobile phones equipped with a browser). The users of myWebAccess can create a personalized environment containing their favourite services, and can interact with them through interfaces appropriate to their specific individual characteristics

    Implementing geriatric assessment for dose optimization of CDK4/6 inhibitors in older breast cancer patients

    Current evidence from both randomized trials and real-world studies suggests that older patients with advanced hormone receptor-positive/HER2-negative (HR+/HER2) breast cancer derive clinical benefit from the addition of CDK4/6 inhibitors to endocrine therapy. However, a higher risk for adverse events due to CDK4/6 inhibitors among older patients is evident, leading to a trend of initiating CDK4/6 inhibitors at lower dose in clinical practice, though without evidence. The aim of the IMPORTANT-trial, a pragmatic, multinational, open-label, partly decentralized randomized trial is to investigate whether lower starting dose of CDK4/6 inhibitors combined with endocrine therapy is comparable to full dose in older (≥70 years old) patients with advanced HR+/HER2- breast cancer who are assessed as vulnerable or frail based on comprehensive geriatric assessment

    VaR as a mitigating risk tool in the maritime sector: An empirical approach on freight rates

    &lt;abstract&gt; &lt;p&gt;Shipping freight rates fluctuation is considered as one of the most important risk factors that participants face in the tanker shipping market (ship-owners, charterers, traders, hedge funds, banks and other financial institutions) in order to watch its evolution. This study examines freight rates for two of the most popular clean and dirty tanker routes; TC2 and TD3 from 22 May 2007 to 21 September 2015, using daily spot and future prices. The full data sample is divided into two sub periods, from 22 May 2007 to 13 August 2013 (in sample period) on which the model estimation section is based and from 14 August 2013 to 21 September 2015 (out of sample period) over which the Value at Risk is measured and backtesting process was performed. In all cases tested, there are observed high peaks and fat tails in all distributions. We apply a range of VaR models (parametric and non-parametric) in order to estimate the risk of the returns of TC2 route and TD3 route for spot, one month and three months future market. Backtesting tools are implemented in order to find the best fit model in terms of economic and statistical accuracy. Our empirical analysis concludes that the best fit models used for mitigating risk are simple GARCH model and non-parametric model. The above outcome seems to be valid a) for spot returns as well as for future returns and b) for short and long positions. In addition to the aforementioned conclusions, it is observed high freight rate risk at all routes. Our results are useful for risk management purposes for all the tanker shipping market participants and derivatives' counterparties.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;/abstract&gt;</jats:p
