Towards the Influence of Media on Suicidality : A Systematic Review of Netflix's 'Thirteen Reasons Why'

    Get PDF
Online streaming series 'Thirteen Reasons Why' (13RW), released in March 2017, was criticized for its sensationalist portrayal of the main character's suicide, leading some people to voice fears of a global contagion of self-harm behaviors. The current investigation provides a systematic review of original studies analyzing the role of 13RW as an influencing factor for suicide. Articles were identified through a systematic search of Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, PsycInfo, and a manual search of reference lists from inception until the 16 January 2023. Twenty-seven published articles were identified from an initial search of 496 studies. The positive effects of watching 13RW included a reduction in suicide stigma and a greater likelihood to discuss mental health concerns and seek for help. However, several studies reported negative outcomes, including significant increases in the rate of deaths by suicide in adolescents, the number of admissions for suicidal reasons, and the prevalence and severity of suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors in vulnerable viewers. Still, due to methodological limitations, no causal relationship could be established. Preventive measures are required to alert of the risk and should be particularly addressed to susceptible subjects. Psychoeducational programs should be focused on this kind of phenomena in vulnerable populations

D2:D4; Prader–Willi syndrome; EpigeneticD2:D4; Síndrome de Prader-Willi; EpigenèticaD2:D4; Síndrome de Prader-Willi; EpigenéticaPrader-Willi syndrome (PWS) is a genetic disorder produced by a lack of expression of paternally derived genes in the 15q11-13 region. Research has generally focused on its genetic and behavioral expression, but only a few studies have examined epigenetic influences. Prenatal testosterone or the maternal testosterone-to-estradiol ratio (MaTtEr) has been suggested to play an important role in the development of the 'social brain' during pregnancy. Some studies propose the 2D:4D digit ratio of the hand as an indirect MaTtEr measure. The relationship between social performance and MaTtEr has been studied in other neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), but to our best knowledge, it has never been studied in PWS. Therefore, our study aims to clarify the possible existence of a relationship between social performance-as measured using the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS)-and MaTtEr levels using the 2D:4D ratio. We found that, as a group, PWS individuals have shorter index and ring fingers than the control group, but no significant difference in the 2D:4D ratios. The 2D:4D ratio showed a correlation only with Restricted Interests and Repetitive Behavior Subscale, where a positive correlation only for male individuals with PWS was found. Considering only PWS with previous GH treatment during childhood/adolescence (PWS-GH), index and ring fingers did not show differences in length with the control group, but the 2D:4D ratio was significantly higher in the right or dominant hand compared to controls.Support of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation/ISCIII/FEDER (PI21/01148); and J.C. thanks the Secretaria d’Universitats i Recerca del Departament d’Economia i Coneixement of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2017 SGR 1412); the CERCA program of the I3PT; the Instituto de Salud Carlos III; and the CIBER of Mental Health (CIBERSAM)

The Psychosocial Accompaniment in Violence Scenarios, has as intent to approach the reality from the traumatic facts of the violence interpreted through the story and the narrative understood as the instrument that allows to understand the stories that are told of the facts or lived experiences that permeate, influence and affect the identity of the individual or community; from a panorama of action event, and a panorama of identity learning. From where, the narrative approach, allows to honor the pain and history in itself but also, the facts or acts that emerge as a resilient potential. In this sense, the present paper provides an analysis, following guiding questions, about individual level stories or events, Gloria story, which allows identifying the purposes of the narrative approach and the question circular, reflective and strategic as psychosocial approach tool and means of connection between the story and the subject as an emotional body in its victim position or in its position as a survivor facing the fact. Likewise, an analysis of a collective fact is provided, Pandurí case, of which three psychosocial support strategies are proposed around pre-established items in the formative intentions of the professional training process in psychology, which aims to identify the emerging psychosocial product of the violent act, the impacts on the population, proposals for support actions in crisis situations and psychosocial strategies that facilitate the empowerment of coping resources in front of the fact

Uno de los principales problemas que debe enfrentar la investigación formativa es el número de docentes con las capacidades necesarias para generar en el estudiante capacidades investigativas, exigiendo al profesor universitario adoptar una actitud contraria al objeto de enseñanza, generando un carácter complejo y dinámico del conocimiento.CONTENTS RETOS DE LA INVESTIGACIÓN EN PREGRADO..................................................5 CHALLENGES OF UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH.............................................9 German Oved Acevedo Osorio CHAPTER 1 HEALTH AND SPORTS SCIENCES FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH EXACERBATIONS OR CRISIS EVENTS OF CHRONIC NON COMMUNICABLE DISEASES.........................13 Giovanni García Castro, Sandra Milena Bedoya Gaviria, Isabela Patiño Pulgarín y Valentina Valencia Flórez ORAL ANTICOAGULATION IN PATIENTS WITH NON-VALVULAR ATRIAL FIBRILLATION IN A UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL IN COLOMBIA.....................................................................................................29 María Leonor Galindo Márquez, Adrian Giraldo Diaconeasa, Juan Darío Franco Ramírez y Eduardo Ramírez Vallejo PERFORMANCE IN INITIAL TRAUMAASSESSMENT OF EMERGENCY TEAMS FROM PREHOSPITAL CARE TEAMS..................43 Giovanni García Castro, Yamileth Estrada Berrio, Manuela Aguirre Torres e Isabella Díaz Leal ACADEMIC TRAINING AND WORKING CONDITIONS OF NURSING PROFESSIONALS IN PEREIRA - RISARALDA 2020.....................55 Miguel Ángel Gómez Puerta, Laura Isabel Orozco Santamaría, Alexandra Villa Patiño y Gladys Judith Basto Hernández EFFECTS OF DYNAMIC TAPE WITH ANTI-VALGUS APPLICATION ON VERTICAL JUMP PERFORMANCE IN PHYSICALLY ACTIVE WOMEN: A CASE STUDY ..........................................73 María Camila Arias Castro, Alejandro Gómez Rodas y Ángela María Cifuentes Ríos PROPOSAL OF CARE FOR DIAGNOSTIC PREVALENT NURSES IN AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT................................................................89 Tatiana Restrepo Pérez, Jessica Viviana Ríos Uribe, Anyi Daniela Lemos Córdoba, Anyi Katherine Mapura Benjumea and Mónica Margarita Barón Castro FACTORS AND CONCEPTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE INITIATION OF CIGARETTE CONSUMPTION IN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OF PEREIRA, COLOMBIA ............................................................................... 113 Giovanni García Castro, Claudia Milena Bernal Parra, Natalia Cardona Arroyave, Brahiam Stiven Moreno Bustamante y Daniela Ospina Sierra CHAPTER 2 ECONOMIC, ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACCOUNTING SCIENCES TECHNICAL-FINANCIAL EVALUATION OF BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS) VARIETY CARGAMANTO IN THE VILLAGE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF SIBUNDOY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PUTUMAYO ................................................................................................ 131 Adriana María Cuervo Rubio, Alejandra Arango Baranza IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NIF IN MICRO-ENTERPRISES OF PEREIRA CITY ............................................................................................ 151 Laura Cortes Correa y Nataly Andrea Gutiérrez STRATEGIC FRAMEWORK FOR SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN COLOMBIA................................................................................................... 163 Paulina Murillo Gómez, Manuela Ramírez Osorio, Laura Juliana Rodríguez Henao, Lindy Neth Perea Mosquera, Isabel Redondo Ramírez SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION IN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY........... 179 Mariana Buitrago Zuleta, Laura Juliana Rodríguez Henao, Lindy Neth Perea Mosquera y Marlen Isabel Redondo Ramírez CHAPTER 3 ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES PERSONAL AND FAMILY CHANGES OF UNDERGRADUATE PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS. Different neurological manifestations of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in adults and children and their impact have not been well characterized. We aimed to determine the prevalence of neurological manifestations and in-hospital complications among hospitalized COVID-19 patients and ascertain differences between adults and children. We conducted a prospective multicentre observational study using the International Severe Acute Respiratory and emerging Infection Consortium (ISARIC) cohort across 1507 sites worldwide from 30 January 2020 to 25 May 2021. Analyses of neurological manifestations and neurological complications considered unadjusted prevalence estimates for predefined patient subgroups, and adjusted estimates as a function of patient age and time of hospitalization using generalized linear models. Overall, 161 239 patients (158 267 adults; 2972 children) hospitalized with COVID-19 and assessed for neurological manifestations and complications were included. In adults and children, the most frequent neurological manifestations at admission were fatigue (adults: 37.4%; children: 20.4%), altered consciousness (20.9%; 6.8%), myalgia (16.9%; 7.6%), dysgeusia (7.4%; 1.9%), anosmia (6.0%; 2.2%) and seizure (1.1%; 5.2%). In adults, the most frequent in-hospital neurological complications were stroke (1.5%), seizure (1%) and CNS infection (0.2%). Each occurred more frequently in intensive care unit (ICU) than in non-ICU patients. In children, seizure was the only neurological complication to occur more frequently in ICU versus non-ICU (7.1% versus 2.3%, P < 0.001). Stroke prevalence increased with increasing age, while CNS infection and seizure steadily decreased with age. There was a dramatic decrease in stroke over time during the pandemic. Hypertension, chronic neurological disease and the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation were associated with increased risk of stroke. Altered consciousness was associated with CNS infection, seizure and stroke. All in-hospital neurological complications were associated with increased odds of death. The likelihood of death rose with increasing age, especially after 25 years of age. In conclusion, adults and children have different neurological manifestations and in-hospital complications associated with COVID-19. Stroke risk increased with increasing age, while CNS infection and seizure risk decreased with age
