Structural characterization of Fe-C coatings prepared by reactive triode-magnetron sputtering

    No full text
International audienceFe1-xCx coatings were synthesized by triode magnetron sputtering of an iron target in a methane/argon atmosphere with a large range of composition (x ¼ 0.3 to 0.6 0.06). Film surfaces were characterized by grazing incidence x-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopies, and electron energy loss spectroscopy, to study effects of the variation of the methane gas flow rate on their structural properties. The coatings were constituted of the e-Fe3C carbide (x ¼ 0.3 and 0.36), in which carbon atoms are in octahedral sites, and of nanocomposite structure constituted of disordered and crystalline carbide nanograins embedded in a carbon matrix made of an amorphous and poorly crystallized graphenelike material (x ¼ 0.55 and 0.60). In situ annealing of the nanocomposite Fe0.45C0.55 coating led to the formation of carbides y-Fe3C and Fe7C3 (with carbon atoms in prismatic sites) and C-rich cubic carbide possibly related to the t2-Fe2C7 compound

Researching & Designing Marketing Materials for Rachel Messer & Connor Dale

Isabelle Bauer’s Honors Project, “Researching and Designing Marketing Materials for Rachel Messer and Connor Dale” is split into two components. First, the research paper titled The American West as a Cultural Phenomenon explores the fascination with the American West and its integration into various aspects of American culture, particularly in music, film, and art. The essay discusses the historical significance of the West and its transformation into a cultural obsession. Focusing on the resurgence of Western aesthetics in modern country music, the project’s second component involves the creation of marketing materials for country artists Rachel Messer and Connor Dale. The research component examines the historical context of the American West, from the European settlers\u27 perception of it as a wild and alluring frontier to the conflicts with Native Americans and the development of the infamous cowboy figure. The evolution of Western media is explored, highlighting its impact on shaping the Wild West narrative. The project discusses the contemporary revival of Western elements of American culture, notably, in the resurgence of traditional country music. The second component of the project displays a practical application of the research. This involves the design of marketing materials for Rachel Messer and Connor Dale, who embody a Western aesthetic with a 70\u27s flair. Drawing inspiration from iconic Western artists such as Frederic Remington and analyzing Western film posters, Bauer aims to infuse a gritty and authentic feel into the marketing materials. The research-driven design process includes using bold text, muted color palettes with vibrant accents, and graphic elements reminiscent of Western film posters. Ultimately, the project seeks to capture the essence of the American West\u27s cultural allure and translate it into contemporary marketing materials for country artists that embody a traditional sound. By examining historical contexts and gathering inspiration from Western style aesthetics, this project contributes to a deeper understanding of how the American West continues to captivate and influence cultural and artistic expressions in the 21st century

Reconstruction of primary vertices at the ATLAS experiment in Run 1 proton–proton collisions at the LHC

    Get PDF
This paper presents the method and performance of primary vertex reconstruction in proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment during Run 1 of the LHC. The studies presented focus on data taken during 2012 at a centre-of-mass energy of √s=8 TeV. The performance has been measured as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing over a wide range, from one to seventy. The measurement of the position and size of the luminous region and its use as a constraint to improve the primary vertex resolution are discussed. A longitudinal vertex position resolution of about 30μm is achieved for events with high multiplicity of reconstructed tracks. The transverse position resolution is better than 20μm and is dominated by the precision on the size of the luminous region. An analytical model is proposed to describe the primary vertex reconstruction efficiency as a function of the number of interactions per bunch crossing and of the longitudinal size of the luminous region. Agreement between the data and the predictions of this model is better than 3% up to seventy interactions per bunch crossing

O gênero Vibrio: conceitos atuais e novas perspectivas

    Get PDF
The genus Vibrio is an extremely versatile bacterial group. Its members are widely distributed in aquatic environments, the majority being harmless. However, some species are known as human and animal pathogens, causing significant impacts on public health and the economy. The study of Vibrio has been gaining more prominence, constituting the central area of research in distinct Microbiology areas. Accordingly, several studies seek to investigate their pathogenicity, antimicrobial susceptibility profile, biotechnological potentialities, as well as their interactions with environmental parameters, the latter being of remarkable importance within the framework of climate change. Thus, this work aims to provide an updated literature review regarding the genus Vibrio, highlighting its medical and environmental relevance, while also indicating potential areas for future studies
