The Individual\u27s Personality, His Exposure to E. G. White\u27s Writings, and His Perception of E. G. White
Problem
E. G. White has been one of the most influential persons in the development of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Therefore extremism in church members is likely to crystallize in issues concerning the implications of her writings for today. The purpose of this study was to explore what relation, if any, exists between certain personality traits of an individual, his exposure to E. G. White\u27s writings, and his perception of E. G. White .
Method
The following instruments were used in the study: (1) The Questionnaire of Exposure to E. G. White; this questionnaire was developed to indicate the extent of an individual\u27s exposure to E. G. White\u27s writings and writings about her. (2) The Scale of Attitudes toward E. G. White ; this scale was developed for use in this study with the goal to distinguish between healthy positive and extreme positive attitudes toward E. G. White . (3) The Rokeach Dogmatism Scale. (4) The Edwards Personality Inventory, booklet III.
Two-way analyses of variance—where categories of scores on the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale and/or on the different subscales of the Edwards Personality Inventory were the one independent variable, categories of scores on the Questionnaire of Exposure to E. G. White the other independent variable, and scores on the Scales of Attitudes toward E. G. White the dependent variable—were applied to the results in order to analyze the relationship between exposure to E. G. White\u27s writings, the individual\u27s personality structure, and his attitudes toward E. G. White . Ninety-seven students from Andrews University Seminary, who held American citizenship and for whom English was the basic language, participated in one of several testing sessions.
Results
The only significant interaction effect was that between Exposure to E. G. White and Cooperative . Dogmatism , Makes Friends Easily , and Cooperative were significantly related to scores on the Scale of Attitudes toward E. G. White .
Conclusions
Perception of E. G. White seems to be partially influenced by the individual\u27s personality structure and also to some degree by his exposure to E. G. White\u27s writings. Further research is needed in this specific area; especially the impact of original E. G. White books, compilations of her statements, and books written about E. G. White need to be investigated with respect to the hypothesis that these different books influence the dogmatic person differently
Specificity of the binding site of the sialic acid-binding lectin from ovine placenta, deduced from interactions with synthetic analogues
The specificity of the sialic acid-binding lectin from ovine placenta was examined in detail by haemagglutination inhibition assays applying a panel of 32 synthetic sialic acid analogues. The carboxylic acid group is a prerequisite for the interaction with the lectin, the α-anomer of the methyl glycoside is only a little more effective as an inhibitor than the β-anomer and the most potent inhibitor was 9-deoxy-10-carboxylic acid Neu5Ac, followed by 4-oxo-Neu5Ac. In contrast to the majority of known sialic acid-binding lectins, the N-acetyl group of Neu5Ac is not indispensable for binding, neither is the hydroxyl group at C-9 since substitutions at this carbon atom are well tolerated. Furthermore, all sulfur-containing substituents at C-9 enhanced the affinity of the lectin. This is the first sialic acid-binding lectin found to strongly bind thio derivatives.Fil: Troncoso, María Fernanda. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas.
This paper presents research results on uranium in drinking water in the territory of the Pavlodar region. Research data shows that uranium content in water is significantly higher than its maximum permissible concentration of 0.015 mg/dm3 as stated in the acts, which Russia and the USA has approved by the PEL of 32 [mu]g/l. Two out of five settlements where uranium concentration in water is at its peak suffer from anthropogenic impact. The results show that water in the northeastern part of the investigated area contains high uranium level due to geological and metallogenic peculiarities of the region

ABSTRACT
Esophageal neoplasia is relatively rare, with a high mortality. With greater incidence in men over 50 years old, associated with smoking and alcohol consumption. Its diagnosis is most often late due to initial symptoms that are vague and may suggest other pathologies of the digestive tract. There are 20 histological types, but two are more important: the carcinoma of scaly cells and adenocarcinoma. The most affected place is the middle third of the esophagus associated with reflux disease and Barrett's esophagus. The prognosis varies according to the histological type and tumor stage. A thorough approach is required for patients in the at-risk population, even if they have incipient esophageal complaints, for this disease. Therefore, the scientific epidemiological description, the factors like age, family history and extrinsic factors such as alcohol and tobacco should be alert to research of this neoplasm for a diagnosis and treatment as early as possible and increase survival of these patients.

Abordagem do Lúpus Eritematoso Sistêmico na paciente gestante e as implicações materno-fetais
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, autoimmune, multisystem disease. This pathology can manifest itself in people of any age, race and gender. However, there is a higher prevalence in women of reproductive age. The objective of the present study is to present the maternal-fetal outcomes of pregnant women with SLE. This is a narrative review of the literature, using the SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) and PubMed (US National Library of Medicine) databases, and the Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS) used were: “Systemic Lupus Erythematosus”, “Pregnancy”, “Autoimmune Disease”. The selected articles were published in English, Portuguese and Spanish, between the years 2014 and 2024. The clinical presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is highly heterogeneous and pregnant women with SLE are at high risk for maternal-fetal complications. These complications include disease exacerbation, intrauterine growth restriction, premature birth and even maternal mortality. Therefore, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus involves signs and symptoms in women that can affect a baby during pregnancy and significant maternal-fetal morbidity and mortality, that will require monitoring by a multidisciplinary teams and evaluation before and throughout the entire pregnancy.O Lúpus Eritematoso Sistêmico (LES) é uma doença crônica, autoimune e multissistêmica.
