Enhanced magnetoelectric effect in M-type hexaferrites by Co substitution into trigonal bi-pyramidal sites

    Get PDF
The magnetoelectric effect in M-type Ti-Co doped strontium hexaferrite has been studied using a combination of magnetometry and element specific soft X-ray spectroscopies. A large increase (>×30) in the magnetoelectric coefficient is found when Co2+ enters the trigonal bi-pyramidal site. The 5-fold trigonal bi-pyramidal site has been shown to provide an unusual mechanism for electric polarization based on the displacement of magnetic transition metal (TM) ions. For Co entering this site, an off-centre displacement of the cation may induce a large local electric dipole as well as providing an increased magnetostriction enhancing the magnetoelectric effect

Extending quasi-GMRES method to solve generalized Sylvester tensor equations via the Einstein product

    Get PDF
This paper aims to extend a Krylov subspace technique based on an in-complete orthogonalization of Krylov tensors (as a multidimensional exten-sion of the common Krylov vectors) to solve generalized Sylvester tensor equations via the Einstein product. First, we obtain the tensor form of the quasi-GMRES method, and then we lead to the direct variant of the proposed algorithm. This approach has the great advantage that it uses previous data in each iteration and has a low computational cost. More-over, an upper bound for the residual norm of the approximate solution is found. Finally, several experimental problems are given to show the acceptable accuracy and efficiency of the presented method

Background and Objective:  With regard to earthquakes and their sudden occurrence, special programs should be designed and implemented for various amusement centers and people in order to encounter a probable disaster as well as to show appropriate and on-time reaction against it.  In this paper, the main objectives are to increase people's awareness and preparedness to encounter disasters and promote disaster management systems in the entertainment centers such as cinemas. Methods and Materials: From the total cinemas in the capital city of Iran, ten cases have been investigated based on available samples in the north part of Tehran. The data has been collected through interviews and field checklists and has been analyzed and quantified. Questions related to the objectives of the study were also asked randomly from a few of those present in the cinema.  Results: The study shows the importance of places such as cinemas which have constant people commuting in and out regularly. With regard to the gathering information, the low level of people's awareness about earthquakes in cinemas as well as the facilities and systems that have to be upgraded in these places were observed and noted through the findings.  Conclusion: In total, the results show that besides increasing the level of awareness and preparedness of people, the systems for encountering disasters also need to be provided or if available, need to be promoted in order to function properly at the time of disasters. Therefore, in addition to improving the level of people's preparedness and knowledge, it is also necessary to build disaster management systems for encountering emergency situations or to upgrade the existing systems. Some of these suggestions can be used by both groups of people and the personnel in places such as cinemas.   How to cite this article: Izadkhah Y.O. A new symmetrical potentially heptadentate (N4O3) Schiff base ligand    {N[CH2CH2CH2N=CH(2-OH-5-BrC6H3)]3} (H3L6) and associated neutral Gd(III), La(III) and Sm(III) complexes, were synthesized. The new compounds were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis and mass spectrometry in all cases and in the case of ligand also with NMR spectroscopy. The relative capability of H3L6 to encapsulate a lanthanide ion, herein La(III), has been theoretically studied by ab initio restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF) and DFT (B3LYP) methods. The calculation confirmed that the H3L6 ligand can effectively encapsulate a lanthanide ion and enforce a seven-coordinate geometry.KEY WORDS:Ab initio, Heptadentate ligands, Lanthanide ions, Schiff base complexesBull. Background: Public education is one of the most important elements of earthquake preparedness. The present study identifies methods and appropriate strategies for public awareness and education on preparedness for earthquakes based on people’s opinions in the city of Tehran. Method: This was a cross-sectional study and a door-to-door survey of residents from 22 municipal districts in Tehran, the capital city of Iran. It involved a total of 1 211 individuals aged 15 and above. People were asked about different methods of public information and education, as well as the type of information needed for earthquake preparedness. Results: “Enforcing the building contractors’ compliance with the construction codes and regulations” was ranked as the first priority by 33.4% of the respondents. Over 70% of the participants (71.7%) regarded TV as the most appropriate means of media communication to prepare people for an earthquake. This was followed by “radio” which was selected by 51.6% of respondents. Slightly over 95% of the respondents believed that there would soon be an earthquake in the country, and 80% reported that they obtained this information from “the general public”. Seventy percent of the study population felt that news of an earthquake should be communicated through the media. However, over fifty (58%) of the participants believed that governmental officials and agencies are best qualified to disseminate information about the risk of an imminent earthquake. Just over half (50.8%) of the respondents argued that the authorities do not usually provide enough information to people about earthquakes and the probability of their occurrence. Besides seismologists, respondents thought astronauts (32%), fortunetellers (32.3%), religious figures (34%), meteorologists (23%), and paleontologists (2%) can correctly predict the occurrence of an earthquake. Furthermore, 88.6% listed aid centers, mosques, newspapers and TV as the most important sources of information during the aftermath of an earthquake, Discussion: A participatory approach to earthquake-preparedness planning is recommended. This would ensure that program planners use methods, tools, media, and educational materials that are compatible with the culture, needs, and skills of the local communities. Conclusion: The findings of this study also reveal methods and tools that the local community considers to be most effective for earthquake-preparedness planning and management. The development of an earthquake-resistance and a safe community requires a high level of collaboration between broadcasting organizations, seismologists, experts in the disaster-preparedness field, as well as the local community. This will allow for timely planning, development, and dissemination of essential information to all stakeholders including the local communities

The Comparative Exegesis of the 159th Verse of Surah an-Nisā’ and Its Relation to the Return of Prophet Jesus (PBUH)

Received: 2020/8/24  |   Accepted: 2021/2/11 In some narrations about the Age of Reappearance of Imām Mahdi (MAHHR), there has been a mention of the return of Prophet Jesus (PBUH) and his assistance to Imām Mahdi (MAHHR). In this regard, a question is raised on whether the Noble Qur’an has also mentioned a word about this subject or not. One of the Qur’anic verses referring to the return of Prophet Jesus (PBUH) is the 159th verse of Surah an-Nisā’ saying “There is none among the People of the Book but will surely believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Resurrection, he will be a witness against them.” In this article, we deal with the analytical survey of the Sunni and Shi’ite exegeses about this holy verse. Of course, there are some disagreements between the Shi’ite and Sunni commentators on the interpretation of this verse which basically refer to their perception of the pronoun “hā” in “Mawtehi”. Some Sunni commentators regard People of the Book as the reference for the pronoun “hā” and maintain that everyone among the People of the Book will believe in Prophet Jesus (PBUH) before his death. However, Shi’ite commentators think that the reference for the above pronoun is Prophet Jesus (PBUH) and hold that this verse refers to his return in the Age of the Reappearance of Imām Mahdi (MAHHR) and the clarification of truth to the People of the Book. By the critical review of the arguments and evidences of both groups, it is concluded that the reference for the pronoun “hā” is Prophet Jesus (PBUH) and the interpretation of this verse indicates the People of the Book will believe after the reappearance of Imām Mahdi (MAHHR) and before the death of Jesus Christ.   Khāh, I. Reliability Analysis of the Proportional Mean Residual Life Order

    Get PDF
The concept of mean residual life plays an important role in reliability and life testing. In this paper, we introduce and study a new stochastic order called proportional mean residual life order. Several characterizations and preservation properties of the new order under some reliability operations are discussed. As a consequence, a new class of life distributions is introduced on the basis of the anti-star-shaped property of the mean residual life function. We study some reliability properties and some characterizations of this class and provide some examples of interest in reliability.</jats:p
