    Efectos de un programa de actividad física sobre la condición física en mujeres premenopáusicas

    Esta investigación pretende conocer los cambios que provoca un programa de actividad física moderada de 5 meses de duración sobre la condición física (fuerza, flexibilidad y resistencia) en mujeres premenopáusicas. En el estudio participaron mujeres premenopáusicas, separadas en dos grupos: menores de 35 años (n = 10) y mayores de 35 años (n = 10). Para el estudio, se estableció un programa de intervención de aeróbic, clases de step y tonificación, de 5 meses de duración, con una frecuencia semanal de 3 días alternos y con una duración de 60 minutos cada sesión a una intensidad entre el 60-70 % de la frecuencia cardíaca máxima de reserva. Los resultados muestran que las mujeres de menor edad, al finalizar el programa de actividad física, incrementaron la flexibilidad posterior del tronco, la fuerza de prensión de ambas manos, aunque solo mejoraron de forma significativa la flexibilidad anterior del tronco (p

    This paper provides an analysis of the introduction and implementation of hybrid powers to regulate anti-social behaviour, during a period of regulatory ‘hyperactivity’ in the UK. It explores the role of procedural justice by drawing on findings from a study conducted in England which investigated the implementation practices and experiences of young people and parents. These are considered against seven characteristics of procedural justice: voice; voluntariness; respectful treatment; parsimony; accuracy of information; fairness; and neutrality. The paper analyses the manner in which principles of voluntary cooperation can be corrupted by threats of punitive sanctions. It questions the extent to which the use of such hybrid orders fosters perceptions of legitimacy and supports the capacity of young people to avoid criminalisation

    Valorization of Cistus ladanifer and Erica arborea shrubs for fuel: Wood and bark thermal characterization

    As a form of upgraded biomass characterized by its high energy density, low production costs, and low process energy requirements, wood pellets are an environmentally friendly fuel allowing for carbon neutral heating with high energy efficiency. In this work, the suitability of a valorization of the woods from the two most representative shrub species from the Iberian Peninsula (namely Cistus ladanifer and Erica arborea) for heating has been assessed. Whereas Erica arborea met the requirements of ISO 17225-2:2014 for ENplus-B class (the calorific content for both wood and bark was high and not significantly different, and the ash content was permissible for specimens with branch diameter =2, 8 cm), Cistus ladanifer was in the limit of the normative and only met the requirements in terms of acceptable ash percentage (1, 9%) and heating value (19 kJ·g-1) for old specimens with branch diameters > 3, 4 cm. Consequently, while the harvest of E. arborea for its use as fuel does not need to be selective, that of C. ladanifer should be limited to the most robust specimens and foliage should be avoided

    Compositional Variations in Apatite and Petrogenetic Significance: Examples from Peraluminous Granites and Related Pegmatites and Hydrothermal Veins from the Central Iberian Zone (Spain and Portugal)

    Apatite can be used as an archive of processes occurring during the evolution of granitic magmas and as a pegmatite exploration tool. With this aim, a detailed compositional study of apatite was performed on different Variscan granites, pegmatites and quartz veins from the Central Iberian Zone. Manganese in granitic apatite increases with increasing evolution degree. Such Mn increase would not be related to changes in the fO(2) during evolution but rather to a higher proportion of Mn in residual melts, joined to an increase in SiO2 content and peraluminosity. In the case of pegmatitic apatite, the fO(2) and the polymerization degree of the melts seem not to have influenced the Mn and Fe contents but the higher availability of these transition elements and/or the lack of minerals competing for them. The subrounded Fe-Mn phosphate nodules, where apatite often occurs in P-rich pegmatites and P-rich quartz dykes, probably crystallized from a P-rich melt exsolved from the pegmatitic melt and where Fe, Mn and Cl would partition. The low Mn and Fe contents in the apatite from the quartz veins may be attributed either to the low availability of these elements in the late hydrothermal fluids derived from the granitic and pegmatitic melts, or to a high fO(2). The Rare Earth Elements, Sr and Y are the main trace elements of the studied apatites. The REE contents of apatite decrease with the evolution of their hosting rocks. The REE patterns show in general strong tetrad effects that are probably not related to the fluids' activity in the system. On the contrary, the fluids likely drive the non-CHARAC behavior of apatite from the most evolved granitic and pegmatitic units. Low fO(2) conditions seem to be related to strong Eu anomalies observed for most of the apatites associated with different granitic units, barren and P-rich pegmatites. The positive Eu anomalies in some apatites from leucogranites and Li-rich pegmatites could reflect their early character, prior to the crystallization of feldspars. The increase in the Sr content in apatite from Li-rich pegmatites and B-P +/- F-rich leucogranites could be related to problems in accommodating this element in the albite structure, favoring its incorporation into apatite. The triangular plots sigma REE-Sr-Y and U-Th-Pb of apatites, as well as the Eu anomaly versus the TE1,3 diagram, seem to be potentially good as petrogenetic indicators, mainly for pegmatites and, to a lesser extent, for granites from the CIZ

    Mediterranean shrublands as carbon sinks for climate change mitigation: new root-to-shoot ratios

    Shrublands play an important role in the reduction of atmospheric CO2 and contribute to the mitigation of the effects of climate change, due to their ability to act as carbon sinks and the large expanses of land involved. Two of the most representative shrub species in the Iberian Peninsula, Cistus ladanifer L. and Erica arborea L., were studied in terms of biomass distribution and carbon and nitrogen contents in the different fractions. With a view to fast and cost-effective estimation of radical biomass, a new procedure for easy root-to-shoot calculation based on vibrational data was proposed, resulting in an excellent agreement with the values obtained from conventional direct belowground and aerial biomass measurements: 0.23 for C. ladanifer and 0.54 for E. arborea. Carbon sequestration, estimated at 45 and 73 t CO2 eq·ha-1 for C. ladanifer and E. arborea, respectively, was subsequently determined. Since these values are substantially higher than those of other shrubs, these two key species can be deemed particularly promising for ecological restoration and carbon offsetting

    NO2 VCD Stratospheric trends Hemispheric and latitudinal dependence

    Presentación realizada para el 7th International DOAS Workshop celebrado en Bruselas los días 6-8 de julio de 2015Twenty years of stratospheric NO2 VCD data from ground-based zenith DOAS instruments have been used for trend analysis. Spectrometers either NDACC qualified or under evaluation cover Subtropical latitudes in Northern Hemisphere (Izaña, 28ºN), and Southern Antarctic (Marambio, 64ºS) and SubAntarctic (Ushuaia, 55ºS) regions. The multiple linear regression method includes annual, semiannual, quarterly, solar activity cycle, stratospheric aerosols, QBO and NAO proxies. The instruments settings follow the NDACC recommendations for NO2 measurements and the same AMF code. Results show a mean am/pm positive trend of + 7.9% at the 99% confidence level in the Northern Hemisphere station whereas the trends are negative in the Southern Hemisphere ones (-9.8% Ushuaia, -14.9% Marambio). From comparison with FTIR data, it is estimated that the changes are restricted to the lower stratosphere (15-30km) suggesting a dynamic origin of the trend. MIPAS NOy on a global scale shows a similar feature with a redistribution of the nitrogen family within the lower stratosphere

    A novel mutation in BRCA1 linked to breast and ovarian cancer and a genotype-phenotype correlation

    We report a novel BRCA1 germline 4156delAA mutation detected in a 41-year-old woman with breast and ovarian cancer. Genomic DNA was obtained from peripheral blood. Standard polymerase chain reactions and direct sequencing were performed. This mutation originates a premature stop at codon 1354 of BRCA1 protein and has not been documented in any published report to the best of our knowledge. The mutation was not observed in any other family studied. Since this novel mutation was associated with both breast and ovarian cancer, the genotype-phenotype correlation was investigated in a patient base of 30 families
