Stringy E-functions of hypersurfaces and of Brieskorn singularities

We show that for a hypersurface Batyrev's stringy E-function can be seen as a residue of the Hodge zeta function, a specialization of the motivic zeta function of Denef and Loeser. This is a nice application of inversion of adjunction. If an affine hypersurface is given by a polynomial that is non-degenerate with respect to its Newton polyhedron, then the motivic zeta function and thus the stringy E-function can be computed from this Newton polyhedron (by work of Artal, Cassou-Nogues, Luengo and Melle based on an algorithm of Denef and Hoornaert). We use this procedure to obtain an easy way to compute the contribution of a Brieskorn singularity to the stringy E-function. As a corollary, we prove that stringy Hodge numbers of varieties with a certain class of strictly canonical Brieskorn singularities are nonnegative. We conclude by computing an interesting 6-dimensional example. It shows that a result, implying nonnegativity of stringy Hodge numbers in lower dimensional cases, obtained in our previous paper, is not true in higher dimension.Comment: 21 page

PPO-AGV heeft de schimmels gedetermineerd en een analyse van de teeltgegevens uitgevoerd

Experimental control strategies reducing the fungicide input at a practical scale

Phytophthora infestans is the most devastating disease in potato cultivation. Chemical control is necessary to ensure a healthy crop. At the same time Dutch governmental policy asks for a reduction of the environmental impact of potato late blight control by 75% in 2012 as compared to 1996-1998. The aim of the experiments was to compare Decision Support Systems with different approaches to blight risk management for their ability to reduce the fungicide input without compromising control efficacy. Considerable savings, up to 81% when compared to weekly, full dose rate, spray schedules, can be achieved by using information on cultivar resistance, length of the critical period and disease pressure to decide whether or not to spray. The subroutine calculating the potential for viable transport of spores is only effective on resistant varieties as the threshold was exceeded with every critical period on less resistant cultivars. Exploring Cross Channel Dissynergies in Multichannel Systems

In this paper, the authors propose that in a multichannel environment, evaluative conflicts (dissynergies) between service channels exist. Building on status quo bias theory, they develop a model which relates offline channel satisfaction to perceptions about a new self-service channel. Data were collected from 639 customers of a German bank currently using offline investment banking. Results of structural equation modeling show that offline channel satisfaction reduces the perceived usefulness and enhances the perceived risk of the online channel. These inhibiting effects represent a status quo bias. The two perceptions fully mediate between offline channel satisfaction and intention to use the new self-service channel. Trust in the bank shows both adoption-enhancing effects and an adoption-inhibiting effect. Finally, the negative relationship between offline channel satisfaction and perceived usefulness is significantly stronger for men, for older people, and for less experienced Internet users. This study has both theoretical and managerial relevance as it helps to understand consumer behavior in multichannel environments and provides implications for the design of multichannel service strategies

Inventarisatie omstandigheden optreden zwarte vlekken in peen : analyse praktijkmonsters 2008 t/m 2010

Zwarte vlekken in peen kan bij zowel gangbare als biologisch geteelde peen grote schade veroorzaken (BioKennis bericht, 2007). Een complex van omstandigheden waaronder de aanwezigheid van diverse schimmels in de grond, de groeiomstandigheden van het gewas, de oogstomstandigheden en de bewaarcondities spelen bij het optreden een rol. Een inventarisatie van allerlei omstandigheden in 2001- 2003 leverde indicaties op dat slechte oogstomstandigheden de grootste risicofactor vormen. Onderzoek met een extreem zware kunstmatig aangebrachte ziektedruk liet ook zien dat afhankelijk van de schimmel een wondhelingsperiode van één week enig positief effect had (Wander, Meier, Booij & Velema, 2006). Bij de huidige praktijk waarbij grote hoeveelheden kisten bij één bewaarregime worden bewaard is het differentiëren van bewaarregimes niet mogelijk. Tot op heden zijn er dus nog geen praktisch uitvoerbare maatregelen die een duidelijk effect op zwarte vlekken hebben. In opdracht van het Productschap Tuinbouw is een correlatie analyse uitgevoerd om na te gaan of er een verband is tussen teeltfactoren en het al dan niet voorkomen van zwarte vlekken in de jaren 2008 t/m 2010 in de praktijk
