Interatomic collisions in two-dimensional and quasi-two-dimensional confinements with spin-orbit coupling
We investigate the low-energy scattering and bound states of two
two-component fermionic atoms in pure two-dimensional (2D) and quasi-2D
confinements with Rashba spin-orbit coupling (SOC). We find that the SOC
qualitatively changes the behavior of the 2D scattering amplitude in the
low-energy limit. For quasi-2D systems we obtain the analytic expression for
the effective-2D scattering amplitude and the algebraic equations for the
two-atom bound state energy. Based on these results, we further derive the
effective 2D interaction potential between two ultracold atoms in the quasi-2D
confinement with Rashba SOC. These results are crucial for the control of the
2D effective physics in quasi-2D geometry via the confinement intensity and the
atomic three-dimensional scattering length.Comment: 13pages, 5 figure
Change-point model on nonhomogeneous Poisson processes with application in copy number profiling by next-generation DNA sequencing
We propose a flexible change-point model for inhomogeneous Poisson Processes,
which arise naturally from next-generation DNA sequencing, and derive score and
generalized likelihood statistics for shifts in intensity functions. We
construct a modified Bayesian information criterion (mBIC) to guide model
selection, and point-wise approximate Bayesian confidence intervals for
assessing the confidence in the segmentation. The model is applied to DNA Copy
Number profiling with sequencing data and evaluated on simulated spike-in and
real data sets.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/11-AOAS517 the Annals of

Intramolecular dynamics. I. Curvilinear normal modes, local modes, molecular anharmonic Hamiltonian, and application to benzene
The Hamiltonian based on curvilinear normal modes and local modes (CNLM) is discussed using Wilson's exact vibrational Hamiltonian as basis, the CNLM representation diagonalizing only the normal mode block of FG matrix in curvilinear internal coordinates. Using CNLM the kinetic and potential energy operators for benzene are given, including cubic and quartic anharmonicity in the potential energy and cubic and quartic terms in the kinetic energy expansion in curvilinear coordinates. Using symmetrized coordinates and cubic and higher force constants the number and identity of the independent symmetry allowed (A1g) such force constants are obtained. The relation to conventional anharmonic force constants is then given and the allowed contributions of the latter are obtained. The results are applied to CH overtone spectra and intramolecular vibrational dynamics in Part III of this series
Oscillatory Magneto-Thermopower and Resonant Phonon Drag in a High-Mobility 2D Electron Gas
Experimental and theoretical evidence is presented for new low-magnetic-field
( kG) 1/B-oscillations in the thermoelectric power of a high-mobility
GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional (2D) electron gas. The oscillations result from
inter-Landau-Level resonances of acoustic phonons carrying a momentum equal to
twice the Fermi wavenumber at . Numerical calculations show that both 3D
and 2D phonons can contribute to this effect.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figure
