    Measurement of the associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into b-quarks with a vector boson at high transverse momentum in pp collisions at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons and where the Higgs boson decays to a pair is measured in the high vector-boson transverse momentum regime, above 250 GeV, with the ATLAS detector. The analysed data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of , were collected in proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of . The measured signal strength, defined as the ratio of the measured signal yield to that predicted by the Standard Model, is corresponding to an observed (expected) significance of 2.1 (2.7) standard deviations. Cross-sections of associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into b quark pairs with a W or Z gauge boson, decaying into leptons, are measured in two exclusive vector boson transverse momentum regions, 250–400 GeV and above 400 GeV, and interpreted as constraints on anomalous couplings in the framework of a Standard Model effective field theory

    Muon reconstruction and identification efficiency in ATLAS using the full Run 2 pp collision data set at \sqrt{s}=13 TeV

    This article documents the muon reconstruction and identification efficiency obtained by the ATLAS experiment for 139 \hbox {fb}^{-1} of pp collision data at \sqrt{s}=13 TeV collected between 2015 and 2018 during Run 2 of the LHC. The increased instantaneous luminosity delivered by the LHC over this period required a reoptimisation of the criteria for the identification of prompt muons. Improved and newly developed algorithms were deployed to preserve high muon identification efficiency with a low misidentification rate and good momentum resolution. The availability of large samples of Z\rightarrow \mu \mu and J/\psi \rightarrow \mu \mu decays, and the minimisation of systematic uncertainties, allows the efficiencies of criteria for muon identification, primary vertex association, and isolation to be measured with an accuracy at the per-mille level in the bulk of the phase space, and up to the percent level in complex kinematic configurations. Excellent performance is achieved over a range of transverse momenta from 3 GeV to several hundred GeV, and across the full muon detector acceptance of |\eta |<2.7

    Measurements of Higgs bosons decaying to bottom quarks from vector boson fusion production with the ATLAS experiment at √=13TeV

    The paper presents a measurement of the Standard Model Higgs Boson decaying to b-quark pairs in the vector boson fusion (VBF) production mode. A sample corresponding to 126 fb−1 of s√=13TeV proton–proton collision data, collected with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, is analyzed utilizing an adversarial neural network for event classification. The signal strength, defined as the ratio of the measured signal yield to that predicted by the Standard Model for VBF Higgs production, is measured to be 0.95+0.38−0.36 , corresponding to an observed (expected) significance of 2.6 (2.8) standard deviations from the background only hypothesis. The results are additionally combined with an analysis of Higgs bosons decaying to b-quarks, produced via VBF in association with a photon

    The ATLAS inner detector trigger performance in pp collisions at 13 TeV during LHC Run 2

    The design and performance of the inner detector trigger for the high level trigger of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider during the 2016-2018 data taking period is discussed. In 2016, 2017, and 2018 the ATLAS detector recorded 35.6 fb(-1), 46.9 fb(-1), and 60.6 fb(-1) respectively of proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13TeV. In order to deal with the very high interaction multiplicities per bunch crossing expected with the 13TeV collisions the inner detector trigger was redesigned during the long shutdown of the Large Hadron Collider from 2013 until 2015. An overview of these developments is provided and the performance of the tracking in the trigger for the muon, electron, tau and b-jet signatures is discussed. The high performance of the inner detector trigger with these extreme interaction multiplicities demonstrates how the inner detector tracking continues to lie at the heart of the trigger performance and is essential in enabling the ATLAS physics programme

    Survey on endocrine-disrupting chemicals in seafood: Occurrence and distribution

    Currently, the presence of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the marine environment pose potential risk to both wildlife and human health. The occurrence of EDCs in seafood depends of several factors such as source and amounts of EDCs that reach the aquatic environment, physicochemical features of EDCs, and its accumulation in trophic chain. This review highlights the occurrence and distribution of EDCs along the seafood in the last 6 years. The following EDCs were included in this review: brominated flame retardants (PBDEs, PBBs, HBCDDs, TBBPA, and novel flame retardants); pharmaceuticals (paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac, carbamazepine), bisphenols, hormones, personal care products (Musk and UV Filters), and pesticides (organochlorides, organophosphates, and pyrethroids). Some of them were found above the threshold that may cause negative effects on human, animal, and environmental health. More control in some countries, as well as new legislation and inspection over the purchase, sale, use, and production of these compounds, are urgently needed. This review provides data to support risk assessment and raises critical gaps to stimulate and improve future research. (c) 2022 Elsevier Inc

    Small- and intermediate-conductance calcium-activated K+ channels provide different facets of endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization in rat mesenteric artery.

    Activation of both small-conductance (SKCa) and intermediate-conductance (IKCa) Ca2+-activated K+ channels in endothelial cells leads to vascular smooth muscle hyperpolarization and relaxation in rat mesenteric arteries. The contribution that each endothelial K+ channel type makes to the smooth muscle hyperpolarization is unknown. In the presence of a nitric oxide (NO) synthase inhibitor, ACh evoked endothelium and concentration-dependent smooth muscle hyperpolarization, increasing the resting potential (approx. -53 mV) by around 20 mV at 3 microM. Similar hyperpolarization was evoked with cyclopiazonic acid (10 microM, an inhibitor of sarcoplasmic endoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase (SERCA)) while 1-EBIO (300 microM, an IKCa activator) only increased the potential by a few millivolts. Hyperpolarization in response to either ACh or CPA was abolished with apamin (50 nM, an SKCa blocker) but was unaltered by 1-[(2-chlorophenyl) diphenylmethyl]-1H-pyrazole (1 microM TRAM-34, an IKCa blocker). During depolarization and contraction in response to phenylephrine (PE), ACh still increased the membrane potential to around -70 mV, but with apamin present the membrane potential only increased just beyond the original resting potential (circa -58 mV). TRAM-34 alone did not affect hyperpolarization to ACh but, in combination with apamin, ACh-evoked hyperpolarization was completely abolished. These data suggest that true endothelium-dependent hyperpolarization of smooth muscle cells in response to ACh is attributable to SKCa channels, whereas IKCa channels play an important role during the ACh-mediated repolarization phase only observed following depolarization

    Introduction: The street food intake is a very common practice in working people. There is a great supply of street food; fruits are always part of this offer and can be found in different presentations Objetive: To analyze the frequency of fruit consumption in public roads in Latin America. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out using a questionnaire of 15 questions in Google Docs format, which was validated by Delphi method and applied in 11 countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal and Uruguay. Results: It was surveyed 8885 people, over 50% consume food on public roads; among the most consuming countries, it is highlighted Colombia (78%) and Guatemala (76%), followed by Peru (66%). With respect to fruit consumption on public roads, it is observed that there is higher consumption in Portugal (61%), followed by Colombia (55%) and Guatemala (51%), and the countries with less consumption are Argentina (26%) and Uruguay (20%). Fruit consumption in the street is the same in both sexes in the most countries. On the other hand, in Portugal, Colombia, Argentina, Costa Rica and Chile, the highest consumption correspond to people with higher education (university or post-graduate) (p<0.05). Conclusion: Street food consumption is high in all countries, including consumption of fruits. This can be transformed into an opportunity to encourage their consumption, but street posts must be adjusted to the necessary requirements to offer safe food
