Data Mining to Support Engineering Design Decision

    No full text
The design and maintenance of an aero-engine generates a significant amount of documentation. When designing new engines, engineers must obtain knowledge gained from maintenance of existing engines to identify possible areas of concern. Firstly, this paper investigate the use of advanced business intelligence tenchniques to solve the problem of knowledge transfer from maintenance to design of aeroengines. Based on data availability and quality, various models were deployed. An association model was used to uncover hidden trends among parts involved in maintenance events. Classification techniques comprising of various algorithms was employed to determine severity of events. Causes of high severity events that lead to major financial loss was traced with the help of summarization techniques. Secondly this paper compares and evaluates the business intelligence approach to solve the problem of knowledge transfer with solutions available from the Semantic Web. The results obtained provide a compelling need to have data mining support on RDF/OWL-based warehoused data

Uniform and healthy Rose cv. ‘Dutch'; Gerbera cv. ‘Lexington'; Gladiolus cv. ‘Top Secrate'; Tuberose cv. ‘Bizet' and Carnation cv. ‘Liberty' were used for the study in September 2016. Cut flowers were harvested at 7.00 am at proper stage, transported within 1.30 hours by AC car to the Agricultural Research Laboratory of Ecofrost Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Pune and then immediately prepared for post-harvest treatment and storage. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of different storage conditions, i.e. room and cold storage conditions (10°C + 93 % RH) on the longevity of the cut flowers. The two treatments viz., holding flowers at room temperature (RT) (T1) and at cold room conditions (T2), were replicated twice. The result showed that keeping cut-flowers at cold storage in a holding-solution of tap water recorded the maximum storage-life (days) compared to room conditions

Development of framework for sustainable Lean implementation: An ISM approach

    Get PDF
The survival of any organization depends upon its competitive edge. Even though Lean is one of the most powerful quality improvement methodologies, nearly twothirds of the Lean implementations results in failures and less than one-fifth of those implemented have sustained results. One of the most significant tasks of top management is to identify, understand and deploy the significant Lean practices like quality circle, Kanban, Just-in-time purchasing, etc. The term 'bundle' is used to make groupsm of inter-related and internally consistent Lean practices. Eight significant Lean practice bundles have been identified based on literature reviewed and opinion of the experts. The order of execution of Lean practice bundles is very important. Lean practitioners must be able to understand the interrelationship between these practice bundles. The objective of this paper is to develop framework for sustainable Lean implementation using interpretive structural modelling approach

On 18-11-2003 about 350kg. of Symplectoteuthis oualaniensis was landed at Sassoon Dock by gagra jal (Gill net) along with hook and line. The dorsal mantle length ranged between 300mm and 400mm. The single speciman brought to the laboratory measured 360mm in length and weighed 1.450kg.The gut was full with thoroughly macerated and pulpy food material, which could not be identified

Spherical Casimir energies and Dedekind sums

Casimir energies on space-times having general lens spaces as their spatial sections are shown to be given in terms of generalised Dedekind sums related to Zagier's. These are evaluated explicitly in certain cases as functions of the order of the lens space. An easily implemented recursion approach is used.Comment: 18 pages, 2 figures, v2:typos corrected, inessential equation in Discussion altered. v3:typos corrected, 1 reference and comments added. v4:typos corrected. Ancillary results added in an appendi

On the unusual landings of lobster, Panulirus polyphagus at Borli Mandla, Raigad District, Maharashtra

    Get PDF
The fishery for lobsters locally called shevandi confined to the Borli Mandla centre, 26 km north of Janjiramurud Is usually caught during August-March every year. The present report pertains to the unusual fishery of the lobster, Panulirus polyphagus landed at this centre during 4th to 13th August, 1997. On 4-8-'97 and 5-8-'97 very high catch of 20-35 kg per unit could be observed but reduced to 10-15 kg on subsequent days with increase in the number of unit operations
