Recommendations for how the hardware development should be accomplished to meet optimum design modularity requirements for Life Science investigation hardware will be provided. In addition, the relative cost impacts of implementing commonality of hardware for all Space Biology hardware are defined. Cost analysis and supporting recommendations for levels of modularity and commonality are presented. A mathematical or statistical cost analysis method with the capability to support development of production design modularity and commonality impacts to parametric cost analysis is provided

    Supplier Management System (SMS) allows for a consistent, agency-wide performance rating system for suppliers used by NASA. This version (2.0) combines separate databases into one central database that allows for the sharing of supplier data. Information extracted from the NBS/Oracle database can be used to generate ratings. Also, supplier ratings can now be generated in the areas of cost, product quality, delivery, and audit data. Supplier data can be charted based on real-time user input. Based on these individual ratings, an overall rating can be generated. Data that normally would be stored in multiple databases, each requiring its own log-in, is now readily available and easily accessible with only one log-in required. Additionally, the database can accommodate the storage and display of quality-related data that can be analyzed and used in the supplier procurement decision-making process. Moreover, the software allows for a Closed-Loop System (supplier feedback), as well as the capability to communicate with other federal agencies

    Let GG be a graph such that, whenever two vertices xx and yy of GG are joined by three internally disjoint paths, xx and yy are adjacent. Jamison and Mulder determined that the set of such graphs coincides with the set of graphs that can be built from cycles and complete graphs via 1-sums and parallel connections.     INTRODUCTION The theme for the Lectures for 1934, “The New Testament Church in History,” is a very timely one and follows naturally the theme of the 1933 Lectures, “The Church We Read About in the New Testament.” There is no subject that is so vital in our work as Christians today as a proper understanding of the great spiritual kingdom of our Savior, the church which was built by Jesus Christ. It is a hard lesson to teach because all people are so dull of hearing concerning things spiritual. Just as Nicodemus marveled when the Christ told him of the spiritual kingdom so do people today wonder and marvel when they are told that there is only one great church, the spiritual kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and that all the saved of earth belong to that church and that belonging to anything else profits little, and is unnecessary. Not only are numbers of denominational churches and people who have no religious affiliation ignorant of the true meaning of the church, but even those who claim to be members of the one body are lacking in understanding concerning the kingdom of Christ. It is therefore the purpose of the Abilene College Lectures last year, this year and next year to arouse a greater interest in the study and the teaching of this very vital matter. In this particular volume much valuable information is brought together on the trials and struggles of the church from its foundations to the present. The speakers have made careful preparation on their subjects and have given lessons that should prove helpful to all who desire to have a better understanding of the church.     Vacuum Induced Coherences in Radiatively Coupled Multilevel Systems

    We show that radiative coupling between two multilevel atoms having near-degenerate states can produce new interference effects in spontaneous emission. We explicitly demonstrate this possibility by considering two identical V systems each having a pair of transition dipole matrix elements which are orthogonal to each other. We discuss in detail the origin of the new interference terms and their consequences. Such terms lead to the evolution of certain coherences and excitations which would not occur otherwise. The special choice of the orientation of the transition dipole matrix elements enables us to illustrate the significance of vacuum induced coherence in multi-atom multilevel systems.     A pelvic-oriented margin of stability is robust against deviations in walking direction

    The Margin of Stability (MOS) is often assessed relative to the intended, linear path of walking progression. When an unanticipated or irregular change in direction occurs, such as during a sudden turn or during activities of daily living, distinguishing the lateral from anteroposterior MOS can be challenging. The purpose of this study was to assess an anatomically orientated method of calculating the MOS using the pelvic orientation to define lateral and anteroposterior directions. We hypothesized that when straight walking was disrupted with a curved path, the pelvic-oriented MOS measure would be less variable compared to the global-oriented MOS. We recruited 16 unimpaired participants to walk at preferred and fast walking speeds along a straight walking path, as well as a path with an exaggerated, curvilinear deviation. We determined the within-subject mean and standard deviation of the anterior MOS at mid-swing and the lateral MOS at ipsilateral foot strike. For straight walking and curved walking separately, repeated measures factorial ANOVAs assessed the effects of model (global or pelvic-oriented), limb (left or right), and speed (preferred or fast) on these MOS values. Based on reduced variability during curved walking, the pelvic-oriented MOS was more robust to walking deviations than the globally defined MOS. In straight walking, the pelvic-oriented MOS was characterized by less lateral and more anterior stability with differences exacerbated by faster walking. These results suggest a pelvic-oriented MOS has utility when the path of progression is unknown or unclear
