Big data has received significant attention in recent years. However, little is known concerning the impact of big data characteristics on innovation performance. This research-in-progress study draws on the organizational learning theory to investigate the influence of big data characteristics on innovation performance mediated by market-driven capability. A survey-based research is outlined to test the proposed research model using structural equation modeling techniques. Prospective contributions to theory and practice are also explained

The Impact of AI Ethicality on Clinical Decision-making: The Role of AI Trustworthiness and Representativeness

    Get PDF
There are critical ethical concerns about using artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare. Healthcare professionals are more likely to adopt AI if they believe in its capability and perceive alignment in clinical decisions with ethical principles. Although previous studies have shown ethical issues in clinical decision making, empirical research investigating how AI ethicality influences healthcare professionals’ perceptions of AI performance expectancy remains limited. Drawing on integrated ethical decision making, we propose a research model to examine the effects of AI ethicality and AI trustworthiness on healthcare professionals’ perceptions of AI performance expectancy. Moreover, we explore whether AI representativeness in adhering to EDI (equity, diversity, inclusion) strengthens the impact of AI ethicality on AI performance expectancy. A vignette-based methodology is proposed to test the model using data collected from healthcare professionals. This research aims to contribute to the literature by providing empirical evidence on how ethical and representative AI systems shape healthcare professionals’ expectations

While many large firms have implemented Big Data Analytics (BDA), it is unclear whether Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are ready to adopt and use this technology. This study investigates BDA implementation from the perspective of both managers and data analysts. Managers are mostly influenced by factors from the external environment, while data analysts are mostly influenced by technological factors. Hence, in this study, it is contended that managers imitate the behavior of external institutions, while data analysts mostly evaluate technology characteristics in the process of BDA implementation. The present study draws on institutional, organizational change, and diffusion of innovation theories through the lens of an imitation-evaluation perspective to investigate readiness and adoption behaviours. Accordingly, a theoretical research model was developed to explore the salient variables that impact organizational and data analysts’ readiness for implementing BDA in SMEs. To test these assertions, two surveys were conducted with 340 responses including 170 managers and 170 data analysts in SMEs in North America. The findings demonstrate that: (1) an imitation perspective plays a significant role in organizational readiness to adopt BDA; (2) uncertainty in big data technologies can intensify the effect of normative pressures on organizational readiness; (3) big data complexity, trialability, and relative advantage impact data analysts’ readiness to use big data analytics; and (4) the influence of relative advantage is attenuated by the high level of data analytics skills. These findings provide valuable contributions to the theory and practice of BDA implementation in SMEs in the BDA adoption and use literature.DissertationDoctor of Business Administration (DBA

English language teaching (ELT) textbooks play an important role in language classrooms. The textbooks are worthy to be examined by researchers to determine if they are designed based on learners’ language needs. High school ELT textbooks in Iran were written three decades ago based on structural approach. This approach does not take into account learners’ language needs and the skills that should be incorporated in ELT textbooks in Iran. The purpose of this study is three fold. The research investigated learners’ language needs and the perspectives of learners and teachers on English language textbooks used in Iran. Besides, it examined whether the participants’ perspectives on the textbooks meet the learners’ needs. The instruments to gather data in this study were questionnaire (to examine the learners’ needs) , checklist (to investigate the learners’ and teachers’ perspectives on ELT textbooks) and interview (to clarify unclear points). Based on random sampling, 300 Iranian students from three different high school grades (year 9, 10 and 11, aged between 15-17 years old ),and 10 Iranian English language teachers were selected to participate in the study. Teachers and students were required to respond to questionnaires and checklists, and 30 students were selected for an interview session to provide clarification. With regards to learner’s language needs, the findings showed that the students considered speaking skill as the most needed skill, followed by other skills such as discussion, listening and writing practices. Besides, it was discovered that the textbooks did not incorporate communicative skills and tasks, and lack meaningful practices. The findings showed that the materials generally did not focus on the skills needed by learners as the books did not provide an appropriate balance of the four skills of reading, listening, speaking and writing. Lastly, the results showed that the content of the ELT textbooks do not meet the learners’ needs. In conclusion, the discoveries of this study provide evidence that future ELT textbooks in Iran need to be written based on investigation of learners’ needs
