A uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric sensor for the detection of Cu²⁺ ions from aqueous environment and its practical applications
A simple uracil nitroso amine based colorimetric chemosensor (UNA-1) has been synthesized and screened for its cation recognition ability. Sensor UNA-1 exhibited a high sensitivity and selectivity towards Cu²⁺ ions in aqueous medium in the presence of a wide range of other competing cations (Ag⁺, Al³⁺, Ba²⁺+, Ca²⁺, Cd²⁺, Co²⁺, Cr³⁺, Cs⁺, Fe²⁺, Fe³⁺, Li⁺, Mg²⁺, Mn²⁺, Na⁺, Ni²⁺, Pb²⁺, Zn²⁺, Hg²⁺ and Sr²⁺). With Cu²⁺, the sensor UNA-1 gave a distinct color change from colorless to dark yellow by forming a complex of 1:1 stoichiometry. Furthermore, sensor UNA-1 was successfully utilized in the preparation of test strips and supported silica for the detection of Cu²⁺ ions from aqueous environment
Three-dimensional morphology and gene expression in the Drosophila blastoderm at cellular resolution II: dynamics.
BackgroundTo accurately describe gene expression and computationally model animal transcriptional networks, it is essential to determine the changing locations of cells in developing embryos.ResultsUsing automated image analysis methods, we provide the first quantitative description of temporal changes in morphology and gene expression at cellular resolution in whole embryos, using the Drosophila blastoderm as a model. Analyses based on both fixed and live embryos reveal complex, previously undetected three-dimensional changes in nuclear density patterns caused by nuclear movements prior to gastrulation. Gene expression patterns move, in part, with these changes in morphology, but additional spatial shifts in expression patterns are also seen, supporting a previously proposed model of pattern dynamics based on the induction and inhibition of gene expression. We show that mutations that disrupt either the anterior/posterior (a/p) or the dorsal/ventral (d/v) transcriptional cascades alter morphology and gene expression along both the a/p and d/v axes in a way suggesting that these two patterning systems interact via both transcriptional and morphological mechanisms.ConclusionOur work establishes a new strategy for measuring temporal changes in the locations of cells and gene expression patterns that uses fixed cell material and computational modeling. It also provides a coordinate framework for the blastoderm embryo that will allow increasingly accurate spatio-temporal modeling of both the transcriptional control network and morphogenesis
Vector meson masses in hot nuclear matter : the effect of quantum corrections
The medium modification of vector meson masses is studied taking into account
the quantum correction effects for the hot and dense hadronic matter. In the
framework of Quantum Hadrodynamics, the quantum corrections from the baryon and
scalar meson sectors were earlier computed using a nonperturbative variational
approach through a realignment of the ground state with baryon-antibaryon and
sigma meson condensates. The effect of such corrections was seen to lead to a
softer equation of state giving rise to a lower value for the compressibility
and, an increase in the in-medium baryonic masses than would be reached when
such quantum effects are not taken into account. These quantum corrections
arising from the scalar meson sector result in an increase in the masses of the
vector mesons in the hot and dense matter, as compared to the situation when
only the vacuum polarisation effects from the baryonic sector are taken into

Life Support and Habitation and Planetary Protection Workshop
A workshop entitled "Life Support and Habitation and Planetary Protection Workshop" was held in Houston, Texas on April 27-29, 2005 to facilitate the development of planetary protection guidelines for future human Mars exploration missions and to identify the potential effects of these guidelines on the design and selection of related human life support, extravehicular activity and monitoring and control systems. This report provides a summary of the workshop organization, starting assumptions, working group results and recommendations. Specific result topics include the identification of research and technology development gaps, potential forward and back contaminants and pathways, mitigation alternatives, and planetary protection requirements definition needs. Participants concluded that planetary protection and science-based requirements potentially affect system design, technology trade options, development costs and mission architecture. Therefore early and regular coordination between the planetary protection, scientific, planning, engineering, operations and medical communities is needed to develop workable and effective designs for human exploration of Mars

На основе экспертной оценки определены коэффициенты относительной важности компонентов дерева целей. Методология может быть использована для выявления и структуризации проблем, связанных с эксплуатацией и обслуживанием электрических машин
Acute vulval edema leading to urinary retention in a lady with pre-eclampsia: case report
Acute urinary retention is condition which requires immediate attention as it is associated with severe pain and which is relieved by simple procedure of catheterization. This complication is uncommon in women compare to males. It is much rarer during pregnancy. Presenting a case of acute retention of urine in a primigravida woman with vulval edema having severe pre-eclampsia in third trimester. She was initially managed with indwelling Foleys catheter followed by delivery which relieved her symptoms
Are cesarean delivery rates and indications changing?
Background: There seems to be gradual raising trend in cesarean deliveries over decades with associated decrease in perinatal mortality rate. This study was undertaken to compare the caesarean delivery (CS) rates along with its indications over the last decade and to examine whether it is changing.Methods: The aim is to compare the rate and indications of CS in a retrospective manner from the data collected between January 1 and December 31 in the year 2006, 2011, and 2016 in a zonal hospital. The rates and indications of CS were analyzed to find whether they are changing if yes which are the factors contributing for the same. Categorical variables were compared using chi-square test.Results: The CS rate showed an increasing trend from 26 % in 2006 to 27.6 % in 2011 to 32.4 % in 2016. Of the total CS, repeat CS rate was significantly increased from 76 (6.61%) in 2006 to 106 (10.34%) in 2011 to 128 (13.72%). Primary CS percent remained more or less same during the study period. Post cesarean pregnancy (p=0.00001) and fetal distress (p=0.012) showed significant rise as an indication for CS which were major contributor for rise in last decade while failed induction decreased.Conclusions: Over the decade there is increase in the total CS rate mainly attributable to repeat CS while post CS pregnancies and foetal distress were leading cause for CS. There is need for reducing primary CS along with increase in trial of labor after cesarean in properly selected women
