Phenomenology of TeV-scale scalar Leptoquarks in the EFT

We examine new aspects of leptoquark (LQ) phenomenology using effective field theory (EFT). We construct a complete set of leading effective operators involving SU(2) singlets scalar LQ and the SM fields up to dimension six. We show that, while the renormalizable LQ-lepton-quark interaction Lagrangian can address the persistent hints for physics beyond the Standard Model in the B-decays BˉD()τνˉ\bar B \to D^{(*)} \tau \bar\nu, BˉKˉ+\bar B \to \bar K \ell^+ \ell^- and in the measured anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, the LQ higher dimensional effective operators may lead to new interesting effects associated with lepton number violation. These include the generation of one-loop sub-eV Majorana neutrino masses, mediation of neutrinoless double-β\beta decay and novel LQ collider signals. For the latter, we focus on 3rd generation LQ (ϕ3\phi_3) in a framework with an approximate Z3Z_3 generation symmetry, and show that one class of the dimension five LQ operators may give rise to a striking asymmetric same-charge ϕ3ϕ3\phi_3 \phi_3 pair-production signal, which leads to low background same-sign leptons signals at the LHC. For example, with Mϕ31M_{\phi_3} \sim 1 TeV and a new physics scale of Λ5\Lambda \sim 5 TeV, we expect about 50005000 positively charged τ+τ+\tau^+ \tau^+ events via ppϕ3ϕ3τ+τ++2jbpp \to \phi_3 \phi_3 \to \tau^+ \tau^+ + 2 \cdot j_b (jbj_b=b-jet) at the 13 TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of 300 fb1^{-1}. It is interesting to note that, in the LQ EFT framework, the expected same-sign lepton signals have a rate which is several times larger than the QCD LQ-mediated opposite-sign leptons signals, gg,qqˉϕ3ϕ3++Xgg,q \bar q \to \phi_3 \phi_3^* \to \ell^+ \ell^- +X. We also consider the same-sign charged lepton signals in the LQ EFT framework at higher energy hadron colliders such as a 27 TeV HE-LHC and a 100 TeV FCC-hh.Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, final version as published in PR

Contextualising emotional well-being for conflict-affected populations: A study from the Thai-Myanmar Border

    Get PDF
This paper examines the factors that migrant and displaced children from Myanmar consider essential to their emotional well-being. It underscores the importance of locally contextualised assessments of well-being and presents findings from a survey conducted across ten Migrant Learning Centres (MLCs) in Thailand to develop a framework identifying the positive and negative criteria of well-being that conflict-affected children prioritise in this context. In conducting such studies, actors working to support vulnerable groups can collect information to inform more effective and relevant responses to support children’s emotional well-being

Excitatory and inhibitory hippocampal neurons differ in their homeostatic adaptation to chronic M-channel modulation

A large body of studies has investigated bidirectional homeostatic plasticity both in vitro and in vivo using numerous pharmacological manipulations of activity or behavioral paradigms. However, these experiments rarely explored in the same cellular system the bidirectionality of the plasticity and simultaneously on excitatory and inhibitory neurons. M-channels are voltage-gated potassium channels that play a crucial role in regulating neuronal excitability and plasticity. In cultured hippocampal excitatory neurons, we previously showed that chronic exposure to the M-channel blocker XE991 leads to adaptative compensations, thereby triggering at different timescales intrinsic and synaptic homeostatic plasticity. This plastic adaptation barely occurs in hippocampal inhibitory neurons. In this study, we examined whether this homeostatic plasticity induced by M-channel inhibition was bidirectional by investigating the acute and chronic effects of the M-channel opener retigabine on hippocampal neuronal excitability. Acute retigabine exposure decreased excitability in both excitatory and inhibitory neurons. Chronic retigabine treatment triggered in excitatory neurons homeostatic adaptation of the threshold current and spontaneous firing rate at a time scale of 4–24 h. These plastic changes were accompanied by a substantial decrease in the M-current density and by a small, though significant, proximal relocation of Kv7.3-FGF14 segment along the axon initial segment. Thus, bidirectional homeostatic changes were observed in excitatory neurons though not symmetric in kinetics and mechanisms. Contrastingly, in inhibitory neurons, the compensatory changes in intrinsic excitability barely occurred after 48 h, while no homeostatic normalization of the spontaneous firing rate was observed. Our results indicate that excitatory and inhibitory hippocampal neurons differ in their adaptation to chronic alterations in neuronal excitability induced by M-channel bidirectional modulation

This article analyzes the catechism imposed by Emperor Napoleon I in 1806 for all the territories and allied states of the First French Empire, the deterioration of relations with the Catholic Church, and the precedents established since the signing of the Concordat of 1801. El caso “Sonthonax”: ¿abolicionista o superviviente?

    Get PDF
