Effect of a carbohydrate beverage on exercise performance in youth 7-17 years old
Sports enhancement products go through trends as new products are introduced and as old products are redesigned and re-introduced to the market. Gatorade© is a sports beverage that is often used by youth during sports. However, the effects of sports beverages on youth performance are unknown. One aim of this study was to determine if youth experience the same performance benefit from carbohydrate beverages as adults. A second aim of this study was to determine differences in metabolic measures (VO2, VE, & RER) between the carbohydrate and water performance trials in youth and adults. A third aim was to examine changes in metabolic measures (VO2, VE, & RER) throughout a 60-minute cycle ride in youth. It was hypothesized that youth, like adults, would experience a performance benefit from carbohydrate beverages. It was also hypothesized that there would be a difference in metabolic measures (VO2, VE, & RER) between the carbohydrate beverage and water trials in youth and adults. The third hypothesis was that there would be a difference in metabolic measures (VO2, VE, & RER) for youth throughout a 60-minute cycle ride. Nineteen subjects (8 youth aged 7-17 and 11 adults aged 18-30) were recruited to come to the Applied Exercise Physiology Laboratory on three separate occasions. During the participant’s first visit to the laboratory, they completed a VO2peak test on a cycle ergometer (McMaster protocol). The second and third visits to the laboratory were identical, consisting of two 30-minute cycle rides, and one two-mile performance trial on a cycle ergometer. Metabolic measures (VO2, VE, & RER), heart rate, blood pressure, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) will all be measured during testing. Drink order was single-blind, randomized, and counterbalanced. Paired sample t-tests were used to determine differences in water and carbohydrate performance time trials in youth and adults. No statistical significance was found for adults or youth. Paired sample t-tests were used to determine differences in metabolic performance data. No statistical significance was found for adults or youth. Paired sample t tests were used to determine differences in metabolic data for the 60-minute ride for youth. RER was significant between Time Point 1 (time during the trial) and Time Point 4 (time during the trial) for the water and carbohydrate trials. VO2 was significant for the carbohydrate trial from Time Point 1 to Time Point 4. Differences were considered significant at an alpha level of p \u3c .05. Limitations of the study included the adults using the same protocol as youth, small sample size, and not being able to disguise the taste between water and the carbohydrate beverage. It is imperative to do continued research specifically with youth and carbohydrate beverage consumption during exercise to get a deeper understanding of the benefits or lack thereof
Old Testament Temple Worship
Modernist deny the fact that Sacrifices belonged to the essence or the Old Testament Temple worship. They declare the Old Testament sacrifices to have been foreign elements in the Old Testament worship, tolerated by Moses, but criticized by the prophets. One of the prophecies quoted to show that the Lord disapproved of the sacrifices of Israel is Isaiah 1,11. Every unprejudiced reader of the Bible, however, will see that sacrifices constitute the center of the Old Testament worship. For God accepted these sacrifices as an atonement for sins because they pointed to the complete sacrifice of Christ
The professional identity of independent piano teachers
The purpose of this study was to examine selected aspects of American independent piano teachers’ demographics and attitudes toward their professional identity using Stryker’s (1980) structural identity theory as the theoretical framework. This theory, which deals with components of role commitment and role identity, was used as the framework for an examination of how certain defining events and experiences relate to perceived professional identities of independent piano teachers. Four research questions and related null hypotheses were investigated by means of a survey questionnaire adapted from previous studies on identity theory (Callero, 1985; Curry, 1993; Curry & Weaner, 1987; Jackson, 1981; Stryker & Serpe, 1982).
The survey questionnaire was administered to 4,000 randomly selected piano teachers who were members of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) as of October 3, 2016, and located throughout the United States. A total of 421 returned surveys were deemed useable for the purpose of this study, for a response rate of 10.5%.
I examined associations between certain defining events and experiences (e.g., certification status; level of education; leadership roles at local, state, and national levels; networking with other piano teachers; participation in state and national conferences), and the four dependent variables under examination. Findings revealed low to low moderate positive correlations between the defining events and experiences scale and all four dependent variables: (a) self in role (identity salience) (r = .242), (b) role commitment (r = .317), (c) time spent in role (r = .172), and (d) expressed satisfaction in role (r = .218).
Significant differences were also found between the three independent variables (levels of certification status, levels of education, and years of teaching experience) and three of the four dependent variables under investigation (role commitment, time spent in role, and expressed satisfaction in role). Overall, the results of this study showed the applicability of identity theory to the study of identity among independent piano teachers. Findings from this study may potentially deepen insights relating to the piano teacher role. Additionally, findings may provide a better understanding of how certain defining events and experiences help shape piano teachers’ professional identity
Fluid release from the subducted Cocos plate and partial melting of the crust deduced from magnetotelluric studies in southern Mexico: implications for the generation of volcanism and subduction dynamics
In order to study electrical conductivity phenomena that are associated with subduction related fluid release and melt production, magnetotelluric (MT) measurements were carried out in southern Mexico along two coast to coast profiles. The conductivity-depth distribution was obtained by simultaneous two-dimensional inversion of the transverse magnetic and transverse electric modes of the magnetotelluric transfer functions. The MT models demonstrate that the plate southern profile shows enhanced conductivity in the deep crust. The northern profile is dominated by an elongated conductive zone extending >250 km below the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB). The isolated conductivity anomalies in the southern profile are interpreted as slab fluids stored in the overlying deep continental crust. These fluids were released by progressive metamorphic dehydration of the basaltic oceanic crust. The conductivity anomalies may be related to the main dehydration reactions at the zeolite → blueschist → eclogite facies transitions and the breakdown of chlorite. This relation allows the estimation of a geothermal gradient of ∼8.5°C/km for the top of the subducting plate. The same dehydration reactions may be recognized along the northern profile at the same position relative to the depth of the plate, but more inland due to a shallower dip, and merge near the volcanic front due to steep downbending of the plate. When the oceanic crust reaches a depth of 80–90 km, ascending fluids produce basaltic melts in the intervening hot subcontinental mantle wedge that give rise to the volcanic belt. Water-rich basalts may intrude into the lower continental crust leading to partial melting. The elongated highly conductive zone below the TMVB may therefore be caused by partial melts and fluids of various origins, ongoing migmatization, ascending basaltic and granitic melts, growing plutons as well as residual metamorphic fluids. Zones of extremely high conductance (>8000 S) in the continental crust on either MT profile might indicate extinct magmatism

Management Guide for Early Childhood Programs
Relying upon many years of experience as an early childhood educator and consultant, and utilizing examples of programs and forms during the past thirteen years while serving as the Director of Peace Lutheran Preschool/Kindergarten in Owensboro, Kentucky, and as a regional/national early childhood consultant. The author has proposed a manuscript whose purpose is to assist early childhood professionals in the development and implementation of quality, needs-appropriate preschool programs.
The eleven chapters are divided into seven areas of concern: program survey, development, purpose, regulation requirements, administration, financing, enrollment, curriculum and day-care. (Within each area are varied appropriate methods of implementation relating to specific outcomes of each desired program.) Curriculum is discussed with emphasis given to programs which are both age and developmentally appropriate for the early childhood area. Day-care materials are discussed in detail in the final chapter, although there are references throughout the manuscript that help explain overlaps in the two types of programs.
Since the entire manuscript is based on experiences of the author and was developed from working programs, materials are of a research basis, but they have also been used and tested. Therefore it will be useful to professionals in their existing or planned programs.
The author hopes the experiences within this manuscript prove invaluable to the novice in developing and implementing quality early childhood programs. This manuscript’s purpose is to assist those who dedicate their lives to meeting these needs of the young by providing a working guide for early childhood program development
