Automated information extraction from web APIs documentation

A fundamental characteristic of Web APIs is the fact that, de facto, providers hardly follow any standard practices while implementing, publishing, and documenting their APIs. As a consequence, the discovery and use of these services by third parties is significantly hampered. In order to achieve further automation while exploiting Web APIs we present an approach for automatically extracting relevant technical information from the Web pages documenting them. In particular we have devised two algorithms that automatically extract technical details such as operation names, operation descriptions or URI templates from the documentation of Web APIs adopting either RPC or RESTful interfaces. The algorithms devised, which exploit advanced DOM processing as well as state of the art Information Extraction and Natural Language Processing techniques, have been evaluated against a detailed dataset exhibiting a high precision and recall–around 90% for both REST and RPC APIs outperforming state of the art information extraction algorithms

Prognostic Value of Normal Stress Echocardiography in Obese Patients

Background. Chest pain is a common problem in obese patients. Because of the body habitus, the results of noninvasive evaluation for CAD may be limited in this group. Methods. We reviewed the records of 1446 consecutive patients who had undergone clinically indicated stress echocardiography (SE). We compared major adverse cardiac events (MACE; myocardial infarction, cardiac intervention, cardiac death, subsequent hospitalization for cardiac events, and emergency department visits) at 1 year in normal weight, overweight, and obese subjects with normal SE. Results. Excluding patients with an abnormal and indeterminate SE and those who were lost to follow-up, a retrospective analysis of 704 patients was performed. There were 366 obese patients (BMI ≥ 30), 196 overweight patients (BMI 25-29.9), and 142 patients with normal BMI (18.5-24.9). There was no MACE in the groups at 1-year follow-up after a normal SE. Conclusions. In obese patients including those with multiple risk factors and symptoms concerning for cardiac ischemia, stress echocardiography is an effective and reliable noninvasive tool for identifying those with a low 1-year risk of cardiac events

Provenance Collection in Reservoir Management Workflow Environments

Abstract—There has been a recent push towards applying information technology principles, such as workflows, to bring greater efficiency to reservoir management tasks. These workflows are data intensive in nature, and the data is derived from heterogenous data sources. This has placed an emphasis on the quality and reliability of data that is used in reservoir engineering applications. Data provenance is metadata that pertains to the history of the data and can be used to assess data quality. In this paper, we present an approach for collecting provenance information from application logs in the domain of reservoir engineering. In doing so, we address challenges due to: 1) the lack of a workflow orchestration framework in reservoir engineering and 2) the inability of many reservoir engineering applications to collect provenance information. We present an approach that uses the workflow instances detection algorithm and the Open Provenance Model (OPM) for capturing provenance information from the logs.
