Measurement of the B0 anti-B0 oscillation frequency using l- D*+ pairs and lepton flavor tags

The oscillation frequency Delta-md of B0 anti-B0 mixing is measured using the partially reconstructed semileptonic decay anti-B0 -> l- nubar D*+ X. The data sample was collected with the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider during 1992 - 1995 by triggering on the existence of two lepton candidates in an event, and corresponds to about 110 pb-1 of pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. We estimate the proper decay time of the anti-B0 meson from the measured decay length and reconstructed momentum of the l- D*+ system. The charge of the lepton in the final state identifies the flavor of the anti-B0 meson at its decay. The second lepton in the event is used to infer the flavor of the anti-B0 meson at production. We measure the oscillation frequency to be Delta-md = 0.516 +/- 0.099 +0.029 -0.035 ps-1, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures. We present a search for ZZ and ZW vector boson pair production in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using the leptonic decay channels ZZ --> ll nu nu, ZZ --> l l l' l' and ZW --> l l l' nu. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 194 pb-1 collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab, 3 candidate events are found with an expected background of 1.0 +/- 0.2 events. We set a 95% confidence level upper limit of 15.2 pb on the cross section for ZZ plus ZW production, compared to the standard model prediction of 5.0 +/- 0.4 pb.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures. Search for Neutral Supersymmetric Higgs Bosons in ppˉp\bar{p} Collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV

We present the results of a search for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association with bb quarks in ppˉbbˉϕbbˉbbˉp\bar{p}\to b\bar{b} \phi\to b\bar{b}b\bar{b} final states with 91±791 \pm 7 pb1^{-1} of ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. We find no evidence of such a signal and the data is interpreted in the context of the neutral Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. With basic parameter choices for the supersymmetric scale and the stop quark mixing, we derive 95% C.L. lower mass limits for neutral Higgs bosons for \tb values in excess of 35.Comment: 2 tex files 3 figure

Search for Higgs Bosons Decaying into b anti-b and Produced in Association with a Vector Boson in Proton-Antiproton Collisions at 1.8 TeV

We present a new search for H0VH^{0}V production, where H0H^0 is a scalar Higgs boson decaying into bbˉb\bar{b} with branching ratio β\beta, and VV is a Z0Z^{0} boson decaying into e+ee^{+}e^{-}, μ+μ\mu^{+}\mu^{-}, or ννˉ\nu\bar{\nu}. This search is then combined with previous searches for H0VH^{0}V where VV is a W±W^{\pm} boson or a hadronically decaying Z0Z^{0}. The data sample consists of 106±4106 \pm 4 pb1^{-1} of ppˉp\bar{p} collisions at s=1.8\sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV accumulated by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. Observing no evidence of a signal, we set 95% Bayesian credibility level upper limits on σ(ppˉH0V)×β\sigma(p\bar{p}\to H^{0}V)\times\beta. For H0H^0 masses of 90, 110 and 130 GeV/c2c^{2}, the limits are 7.8, 7.2, and 6.6 pb respectively.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, to be submiited to PR

Measurement of dsigma/DM Forward-Backward Charge Asymmetry for High Mass Drell-Yan e+e- Pairs from p-pbar Collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV

We report on a measurement of the mass dependence of the forward-backward charge asymmetry, A_FB, and production cross section dsigma/dM for e+e- pairs with mass M_ee>40 GeV/c2. The data sample consists of 108 pb-1 of p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV taken by the Collider Detector at Fermilab during 1992-1995. The measured asymmetry and dsigma/dM are compared with the predictions of the Standard Model and a model with an extra Z' gauge boson.Comment: 7 pages submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett. 1 figure, 2 Table

Measurement of the average time-integrated mixing probability of b-flavored hadrons produced at the Fermilab Tevatron

We have measured the number of like-sign (LS) and opposite-sign (OS) lepton pairs arising from double semileptonic decays of b and (b) over bar hadrons, pair produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data samples were collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1992-1995 collider run by triggering on the existence of mumu or emu candidates in an event. The observed ratio of LS to OS dileptons leads to a measurement of the average time-integrated mixing probability of all produced b-flavored hadrons which decay weakly, (χ) over bar =0.152+/-0.007 (stat)+/-0.011 (syst), that is significantly larger than the world average (χ) over bar =0.118+/-0.005

Measurement of the Ratio of b Quark Production Cross Sections in Antiproton-Proton Collisions at 630 GeV and 1800 GeV

We report a measurement of the ratio of the bottom quark production cross section in antiproton-proton collisions at 630 GeV to 1800 GeV using bottom quarks with transverse momenta greater than 10.75 GeV identified through their semileptonic decays and long lifetimes. The measured ratio sigma(630)/sigma(1800) = 0.171 +/- .024 +/- .012 is in good agreement with next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD)

Comparison of three-jet events in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.8 TeV to predictions from a next-to-leading order QCD calculation

    Get PDF
The properties of three-jet events with total transverse energy greater than 320 GeV and individual jet energy greater than 20 GeV have been analyzed and compared to absolute predictions from a next-to-leading order (NLO) perturbative QCD calculation. These data, of integrated luminosity 86 pb(-1), were recorded by the CDF Experiment for p (p) over bar collisions at roots=1.8 TeV. This study tests a model of higher order QCD processes that result in gluon emission and may give some indication of the magnitude of the contribution of processes higher than NLO. The total cross section is measured to be 466+/-3(stat.)(-70)(+207)(syst.) pb. The differential cross section is furthermore measured for all kinematically accessible regions of the Dalitz plane, including those for which the theoretical prediction is unreliable. While the measured cross section is consistent with the theoretical prediction in magnitude, the two differ somewhat in shape in the Dalitz plane

Search for lepton flavor violating decays of a heavy neutral particle in p(p)over-bar collisions at root s=1.8 TeV

We report on a search for a high mass, narrow width particle that decays directly to emu, etau, or mutau. We use approximately 110 pb(-1) of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab from 1992 to 1995. No evidence of lepton flavor violating decays is found. Limits are set on the production and decay of sneutrinos with R-parity violating interactions
