Role of quark-quark correlation in baryon structure and non-leptonic weak transitions of hyperons
We study the role of quark-quark correlation in the baryon structure and, in
particular, the hyperon non-leptonic weak decay, which is sensitive to the
correlation between quarks in the spin-0 channel. We rigorously solve
non-relativistic three-body problem for SU(3) ground state baryons to take into
account the quark-pair correlation explicitly. With the suitable attraction in
the spin-0 channel, resulting static baryon properties as well as the parity
conserving weak decay amplitudes agree with the experimental values. Special
emphasis is placed also on the effect of the SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry
breaking on the baryon structure. Although the SU(6) breaking effects on the
local behavior of the quark wave functions are considerable due to the spin-0
attraction, the calculated magnetic moments are almost the same as the naive
SU(6) expectations
Phonon density of states and compression behavior in iron sulfide under pressure
We report the partial phonon densities of states (DOS) of iron sulfide, a possible component of the rocky planet's core, measured by the Fe-57 nuclear resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and calculate the total phonon DOS under pressure. From the phonon DOS, we drive thermodynamic parameters. A comparison of the observed and estimated compressibilities makes it clear that there is a large pure electronic contribution in the observed compressibility in the metallic state. Our results present the observation of thermodynamic parameters of iron sulfide with the low-spin state of an Fe2+ ion at the high density, which is similar to the condition of the Martian core
Electronic Structure of Copper Impurities in ZnO
We have measured the near infrared absorption, Zeeman effect, and electron spin resonance of Cu2+ ions introduced as a substitutional impurity into single-crystal ZnO. From the g values of the lowest Γ6 component of the T2 state (the ground state), gII=0.74 and g⊥=1.531, and from the g values of the Γ4Γ5 component of the E state, gII=1.63 and g⊥=0, we have determined the wave functions of Cu2+ in terms of an LCAO MO model in which overlap only with the first nearest neighbor oxygen ions is considered. These wave functions indicate that the copper 3d (t2) hole spends about 40% of its time in the oxygen orbitals, and that the copper t2 orbitals are expanded radially with respect to the e orbitals. Corroboration for the radial expansion of the t2 orbitals is obtained from an analysis of the hyperfine splitting. It is concluded from our model that the large values of the hyperfine constants, |A|=195×10^-4 cm^-1 and |B|=231×10^-4 cm^-1, are due to the contribution from the orbital motion of the t2 hole
Analysis of previous microscopic calculations for second state in C in terms of 3-alpha particle Bose-condensed state
The wave function of the second state of C which was obtained
long time ago by solving the microscopic 3 problem is shown to be
almost completely equivalent to the wave function of the 3 condensed
state which has been proposed recently by the present authors. This equivalence
of the wave functions is shown to hold in two cases where different effective
two-nucleon forces are adopted. This finding gives strong support for
interpreting the second state of C which is the key state for the
synthesis of C in stars ('Hoyle' state), and which is one of the typical
mysterious states in light nuclei, as a gas-like structure of three
particles, Bose-condensed into an identical s-wave function.Comment: revtex, 5 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Constituent quark model for baryons with strong quark-pair correlations and non-leptonic weak transitions of hyperon
We study the roles of quark-pair correlations for baryon properties, in
particular on non-leptonic weak decay of hyperons. We construct the quark wave
function of baryons by solving the three body problem explicitly with
confinement force and the short range attraction for a pair of quarks with
their total spin being 0. We show that the existence of the strong quark-quark
correlations enhances the non-leptonic transition amplitudes which is
consistent with the data, while the baryon masses and radii are kept to the
experiment.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, talk presented at KEK-Tanashi International
