Gamma and beta frequency oscillations in response to novel auditory stimuli: A comparison of human electroencephalogram (EEG) data with in vitro models
Investigations using hippocampal slices maintained in vitro have demonstrated that bursts of oscillatory field potentials in the gamma frequency range (30-80 Hz) are followed by a slower oscillation in the beta 1 range (12-20 Hz). In this study, we demonstrate that a comparable gamma-to-beta transition is seen in the human electroencephalogram (EEG) in response to novel auditory stimuli. Correlations between gamma and beta 1 activity revealed a high degree of interdependence of synchronized oscillations in these bands in the human EEG. Evoked (stimulus-locked) gamma oscillations preceded beta 1 oscillations in response to novel stimuli, suggesting that this may be analogous to the gamma-to-beta shift observed in vitro. Beta 1 oscillations were the earliest discriminatory responses to show enhancement to novel stimuli, preceding changes in the broad-band event-related potential (mismatch negativity). Later peaks of induced beta activity over the parietal cortex were always accompanied by an underlying gamma frequency oscillation as seen in vitro. A further analogy between in vitro and human recordings was that both gamma and beta oscillations habituated markedly after the initial novel stimulus presentation
Nearly all Power to Imagination

Twenty years of efficiency research in Czech and Slovak banking – A bibliometric analysis
The article is a survey of 44 empirical studies that applied frontier techniques in analyzing efficiency of Czech and Slovak commercial banks in a hope to summarize the state of the art of efficiency research in Czech and Slovak banking. A sample of 44 journal articles was extracted from the Web of Science™ database, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted to identify the most active authors and most influential works to establish mutual relationships between them and to sketch the main research trajectories. The paper contributes to the extant literature by providing guidance for new researchers and identifying for efficiency research on Czech and Slovak banking: (i) the most productive authors as well as the works with the most impact; (ii) the network structure amongst the authors and works; and (iii) main paths of knowledge diffusion across the surveyed works. The findings indicate that efficiency research of Czech and Slovak banks grew out of global banking efficiency research and is thus its integral part. Lotka’s law applied to Czecho-Slovak banking efficiency research does not suggest that its productivity patterns are altogether different from its global counterpart. The first identifiable wave of research was represented by foreign authors who examined issues of economic transition and its impact on the performance of banks. This wave of research endured until about 2013, when the torch passed into the hands of authors of domestic provenience. The findings are useful in bridging the gap between the accumulated knowledge in the field and the new research directions
Advent of English Communication Skills in India and Its Impact on Employability
The paper highlights the advent of the English language into the Indian sub-continent during various decades of the 20th century. The momentum of English usage has increased since the 1970s. The paper reiterates that many Commissions have advocated for Project- Method and Activity- Method to teach communication skills in English. It further reinforces that English is truly considered global and transcends the boundaries. Thereby, making the English learners not local citizens but global citizens. English is widely recognized as the world's lingua franca since it unites all peoples of the world linguistically and serves as the main medium of communication for trade, aviation, entertainment, and diplomacy as well as for scientific and technological activities. The incredible increase of graduates, post graduates and doctoral degree holders in various disciplines such as engineering, medicine, arts, science, humanities and management, has further brought forth challenges and competitions in the global market, and this has, however, posed a threat to the job seekers, who lack communicative competence in English. The majority of the top national and international businesses, organizations, and academic institutions communicate in English for a variety of reasons, and the majority of online resources are in English
LIFE TABLES OF LEPIDOSAPHES ULMI (L.) AND PALAEOLECANIUM BITUBERCULATUM (TARGIONI TOZZETTI) (HEMIPTERA: COCCOIDEA) ON APPLE TREES IN VAN PROVINCE, TURKEY
LIFE TABLES OF LEPIDOSAPHES ULMI (L.) AND PALAEOLECANIUM BITUBERCULATUM (TARGIONI TOZZETTI) (HEMIPTERA: COCCOIDEA) ON APPLE TREES IN VAN PROVINCE, TURKEY. Apples are the most important cultivated crop in Van Province in Eastern Anatolia Region, Turkey, where Lepidosaphes ulmi (L.) and Palaeolecanium bituberculatum (Targioni Tozzetti) (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) are amongst the most economically important pest species. Life-table data were collected in the field for these two species in two different apple orchards. The development time for each stage was recorded once a month in the Winter and every fortnight during the Spring, Summer and Autumn. In each orchard, both shoots and leaves of five randomly selected trees were sampled and each stage of the two scale species was counted. The life-table data were analyzed with regard to the age of the insects and the season, and it was found that L. ulmi and P. bituberculatum had one generation a year. Of several mortality factors, parasitisation was the most important (25.8% for L. ulmi and 23.8% for P. bituberculatum). Key words: Aphytis mytilaspidis, aphelinid, Coccophagus palaeolecanii
