How Jews think: records from a teacher's notebook
Autorka knjige nam kroz više poglavlja govori o svom doživljaju sebe kao učiteljice, pre svega jevrejske učiteljice. Kao osobe koja podučava druge. Ona kroz lični doživljaj govori i o brojnim drugim temama. O trideset godina postojanja, rada i gašenja udruženja Hrvatsko-izraelskog društva; o Mihaelu Montilju - članu Židovske općine Zagreb i prvom dugogodišnjem predsjedniku pomenutog Udruženja. Through several chapters, the book's author tells us about her experience as a teacher, primarily a Jewish teacher. As a person who teaches others. Through her personal experience, she also talks about numerous other topics. About thirty years of existence, work and closure of the association of the Croatian-Israeli Society; about Mihael Montiljo - a Jewish Community of Zagreb member and the first long-term president of that Association. In this book he tells us and teaches us about Judaism as a religion, culture, the people of Israel, a way of life; about fundamental biblical texts in theory and practice; about the most brilliant crown - the crown of the Torah and the great Jewish scholars and interpreters; Haggadah - or how the Jews became a Nation; the science of the mystical essence of God and his creation; Kabbalah; the word Amen ... and of other primarily religious topics
Investment dessision in power companies exposed to electricity market
Strukturnim razdvajanjem nastali su sljedeći subjekti: HEP - Proizvodnja, HEP OPS - Operator prijenosnog sustava kasnije preimenovan u HOPS – Hrvatski operator prijenosnog sustava, HEP ODS – HEP Operator distribucijskog sustava, CROPEX – Hrvatska burza elektriĉne energije. Development of electricity market in Republic of Croatia was dealt in this paper. Electricity power industry has been acted as a natural monopoly, but this type is not viable at the present time. Development of electric power industry lead to idea of creating electricity market where various power producer could compete and consumers could choose their distributors or large consumers directly could choose their electricity producer. During the period 2000-2010 in Republic of Croatia came to the structural separation of electric power industries. Structural separation emerged following entities: HEP – Production, HEP ODS – Transmission System Operator later renamed HOPS – Croatian Transmission System Operator, HEP ODS – HEP Distribution System Operator, CROPEX – Croatia Marketplace electricity. The first day of launch markets for the day ahead at CROPEX was held on 10 Februrary 2016 in cooperation with Nord Pool (Europe's leading stock exchange electricity market). Simulations in Power World visible certain indicators concerning important factors for investment decisions in new production capacity. They can be distinguished in 3 factors: energy source, location and limits of power system. Energy source affects its cost and availability of the electricity price. If the energy source is expensive more expensive will be the production and if is the energy source farther away from the plant higher will be costs and production price will be higher. In the simulations that were carried out it was not possible to enter, because of the limitations of the program, all costs associated with the plant. Location also affects the cost of production. If the new plant is located in area where there are more power plant in a small area itis more likely that they will produce less power than that in the area where there is no competition. Limitations of the power system related to the transmission power lines. Transmission power lines determines how much electricity we can transfer with certain transmission line, therefore, is more cost-effective to invest in a power plant that is located closer to consumers
Ticket to heaven: Messianic meanings of the Jewish holiday Pesach: with one text in the modern Croatian language of the ritual for welcoming the holiday, the Haggadah
In the introductory part of this book, all the complex visions of the Passover holiday are analyzed: the turbulent history of the Jews from the fall into Egyptian slavery to the miraculous salvation under the hand of God and the leadership of Moses, rules for cleaning the home before the holiday and for celebrating the Seder and holidays, several traditional recipes are listed for appropriate meals, the ritual Haggadah and its history and modernity are described in detail... In all chapters of the book, salvation motifs and details related to Pesach and its celebration are discussed, which brings the reader closer and deeper meaning and message of this holiday, because this holiday announces the coming of the Messiah and prays for his arrival soon and final salvation of the Jewish people. In a separate part of the book, the text of the Haggadah, a ritual for the celebration of welcoming the holiday, or Lel Seder - Seder evening, is published, in Hebrew and Croatian.
Post-transcriptional regulation of ribosome biogenesis in yeast
Most microorganisms are exposed to the constantly and often rapidly changing environment. As such they evolved mechanisms to balance their metabolism and energy expenditure with the resources available to them. When resources become scarce or conditions turn out to be unfavourable for growth, cells reduce their metabolism and energy usage to survive. One of the major energy consuming processes in the cell is ribosome biogenesis. Unsurprisingly, cells encountering adverse conditions immediately shut down production of new ribosomes. It is well established that nutrient depletion leads to a rapid repression of transcription of the genes encoding ribosomal proteins, ribosome biogenesis factors as well as ribosomal RNA (rRNA). However, if pre-rRNA processing and ribosome assembly are regulated post-transcriptionally remains largely unclear. We have recently uncovered that the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae rapidly switches between two alternative pre-rRNA processing pathways depending on the environmental conditions. Our findings reveal a new level of complexity in the regulation of ribosome biogenesis
Quantum walks: a comprehensive review
Quantum walks, the quantum mechanical counterpart of classical random walks,
is an advanced tool for building quantum algorithms that has been recently
shown to constitute a universal model of quantum computation. Quantum walks is
now a solid field of research of quantum computation full of exciting open
problems for physicists, computer scientists, mathematicians and engineers.
In this paper we review theoretical advances on the foundations of both
discrete- and continuous-time quantum walks, together with the role that
randomness plays in quantum walks, the connections between the mathematical
models of coined discrete quantum walks and continuous quantum walks, the
quantumness of quantum walks, a summary of papers published on discrete quantum
walks and entanglement as well as a succinct review of experimental proposals
and realizations of discrete-time quantum walks. Furthermore, we have reviewed
several algorithms based on both discrete- and continuous-time quantum walks as
well as a most important result: the computational universality of both
continuous- and discrete- time quantum walks.Comment: Paper accepted for publication in Quantum Information Processing

Maturation of the 90S pre-ribosome requires Mrd1 dependent U3 snoRNA and 35S pre-rRNA structural rearrangements
In eukaryotes, ribosome biogenesis requires folding and assembly of the precursor rRNA (pre-rRNA) with a large number of proteins and snoRNPs into huge RNA-protein complexes. In spite of intense genetic, biochemical and high-resolution cryo-EM studies in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, information about the structure of the 35S pre-rRNA is limited. To overcome this, we performed high-throughput SHAPE chemical probing on the 35S pre-rRNA within 90S pre-ribosomes. We focused our analyses on external (5' ETS) and internal (ITS1) transcribed spacers as well as the 18S rRNA region. We show that in the 35S pre-rRNA, the central pseudoknot is not formed and the central core of the 18S rRNA is in an open configuration but becomes more constrained in 20S pre-rRNA. The essential ribosome biogenesis protein Mrd1 influences the structure of the 18S rRNA region locally and is involved in organizing the central pseudoknot and surrounding structures. We demonstrate that U3 snoRNA dynamically interacts with the 35S pre-rRNA and that Mrd1 is required for disrupting U3 snoRNA base pairing interactions in the 5' ETS. We propose that the dynamic U3 snoRNA interactions and Mrd1 are essential for establishing the structure of the central core of 18S rRNA that is required for processing and 40S subunit function.</p
Estimation of material degradation of VVER-1000 baffle
The planned lifetime of the first commercial VVER-1000 units were designed for 30 to 35 years. Most of the early VVER plants are now reaching and/or passing the 35-year mark. Service life extension for another 10 to 30 years is now under investigation. Life extension requires the evaluation of pressure vessel internals degradation under long-term irradiation. One of the possible limiting factors for the service life of VVERs is a void swelling of the Russian type titanium stabilized stainless 08Ch18N10T steel used to construct the baffle surrounding the core. This article aims to show first steps towards deeper analysis of the baffle degradation process and to demonstrate the possibilities of precise calculation and measurements on the VVER-1000 mock-up in LR-0 reactor
MIRA: dugotrajna nepoznanica iz Šoaha iznenada odgonetnuta!
This is the story of Mira, the girl at the famous, iconic, miraculously preserved photograph, in fact, a series of three photographs taken one after the other from the different angles. The camera faithfully recorded the figure of this innocent, gentle young girl, her lovely fragility. But throughout the following decades the question, which I also often asked myself, remained unanswered: what happened to that girl? Is at least her name known to anyone? It has been one of the unsolved topics until now. The „sign” on her clothes itself obviously belongs to the area and time of the Nazi-collaborating Ustasha regime of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH, April 1941-May 1945). I recently discovered the end, and a happy one, to a miraculous and previously unknown story about the girl with the „Jewish sign” on her clothes. Doživjela sam veliku profesionalnu i ljudsku nagradu i čast: otkrila sam kraj, i to sretan kraj jedne čudesne i dosad nepoznate priče.Link na tekst na hrvatskom jeziku [https://www.jevrejskadigitalnabiblioteka.rs/handle/123456789/3269
