    Supersymmetric theories on squashed five-sphere

We construct supersymmetric theories on the SU(3)xU(1) symmetric squashed five-sphere with 2, 4, 6, and 12 supercharges. We first determine the Killing equation by dimensional reduction from 6d, and use Noether procedure to construct actions. The supersymmetric Yang-Mills action is straightforwardly obtained from the supersymmetric Chern-Simons action by using a supersymmetry preserving constant vector multiplet.Comment: 20 pages, no figure, LaTeX; v3: minor corrections, accepted for publication in PTE

    Unoriented Open-Closed String Field Theory

    Get PDF
The string field theory for unoriented open-closed string mixed system is constructed up to quadratic order based on the joining-splitting type vertices. The gauge invariance with closed string transformation parameter is proved. The infinity cancellation mechanism between disk and projective plane amplitudes plays an essential role for the gauge invariance of the theory.Comment: 40 pages, LaTeX with PTPTeX.sty, 19 eps figure

Superconformal Tensor Calculus on an Orbifold in 5D

Superconformal tensor calculus on an orbifold S^1/Z_2 is given in five-dimensional (5D) spacetime. The four-dimensional superconformal Weyl multiplet and various matter multiplets are induced on the boundary planes from the 5D supermultiplets in the bulk. We identify those induced 4D supermultiplets and clarify a general method for coupling the bulk fields to the matter fields on the boundaries in a superconformal invariant manner.Comment: 31 pages, no figures, LaTeX, version to appear in PT

    Off-shell d=5 Supergravity coupled to Matter-Yang-Mills System

We present an off-shell formulation of matter-Yang-Mills system coupled to supergravity in five dimensional space-time. We give an invariant action for the general system of vector multiplets and hypermultiplets coupled to supergravity as well as the supersymmetry transformation rules. All the auxiliary fields are kept un-eliminated so that the supersymmetry transformation rules remain unchanged even when the action is changed.Comment: 36 pages, no figures, LaTeX, version to appear in PTP 105(2001),323-35

Higgs Doublets as Pseudo Nambu-Goldstone Bosons in Supersymmetric E_6 Unification

    Get PDF
The idea to have Higgs doublets as pseudo Nambu-Goldstone (PsNG) multiplet is examined in the framework of supersymmetric E_6 unified theory. We show that extra PsNG multiplets other than the expected Higgs doublets necessarily appear in the E_6 case. If we demand that the extra PsNG multiplets neither disturb the gauge coupling unification nor make the color gauge coupling diverge before unification occurs, only possibility for the extra PsNG is 10+\bar{10} of SU(5). This is realized when the symmetry breaking E_6 \to SO(10) occurs in the \phi(27)+\phi(\bar{27}) sector while E_6 \to SU(4)_C\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)\times U(1) in the \Sigma(78) sector. The existence of 10+\bar{10} multiplets with mass around 1 TeV is therefore a prediction of this E_6 PsNG scenario. Implication of their existence on the proton decay is also discussed.Comment: 16 pages, no figures, LaTeX(PTPTeX style

Impact and Implication of Bi-Large Neutrino Mixings on GUTs

Under the assumptions that 1) the quark/lepton mass matrices take Froggatt-Nielsen's factorized power form \lambda^{\psi_i+\psi_j} with anomalous U(1) charges \psi_i, and 2) the U(1) charges \psi_i respect the SU(5) GUT structure, we show that the quark mass data necessarily implies the large 2-3 mixing in the MNS mixing matrix U_{MNS}. If we further add the data of the mass squared difference ratio of solar and atmospheric neutrinos, then, it implies that the 1-2 mixing in U_{MNS} is also large, so explaining the bi-large mixing. This analysis also gives a prediction that U_{e3}\equiv(U_{\rm MNS})_{13} should be of order \lambda \sim (0.1 - 0.5).Comment: 8 pages, uses ws-procs9x6.cls, talk at NOON03 (Kanazawa, Feb. 2003

Entropy bounds and Cardy-Verlinde formula in Yang-Mills theory

Using gauge formulation of gravity the three-dimensional SU(2) YM theory equations of motion are presented in equivalent form as FRW cosmological equations. With the radiation, the particular (periodic, big bang-big crunch) three-dimensional universe is constructed. Cosmological entropy bounds (so-called Cardy-Verlinde formula) have the standard form in such universe. Mapping such universe back to YM formulation we got the thermal solution of YM theory. The corresponding holographic entropy bounds (Cardy-Verlinde formula) in YM theory are constructed. This indicates to universal character of holographic relations.Comment: LaTeX file, 11 pages, a reference is adde
