X-Ray Structural Analysis and Vibrational Spectra of Sodium Cysteine-S-sulfonate, +H3NCH(COO-)CH2S2O3Na • 3/2H2O [1]

The title compound crystallizes orthorhombically (space group C 2221) with a = 797.0, b = 870.3 and c = 2739.0 pm. The anions are zwitterions which are heavily involved in intra- and intermolecular NH •••O and OH•••O hydrogen bonding. The two types of sodium cations are coordinated by six oxygen atoms each of which belongs to either SO3 groups (Na 2) or water molecules and SO3 groups (Na1). A second type of water molecules is not coordinated to the cations. The SS bond length is 208.2 pm. Infrared and Raman spectra of the title compound are reported and tentatively assigned. The SS stretching vibration is observed at 409 cm-1

Az Escherichia coli globális regulátor génjeinek a virulencia funkciókra irányuló hatását vizsgálva megállapítottuk, hogy a húgyúti fertőzést és újszülöttkori meningitist okozó törzsek esetében a leuX és az rfaH gének kiesése (utóbbi Salmonella enterica esetében is) attenuált származékokat eredményez, a recA ás lrhA gének a virulenciát mérhetően nem befolyásolják. Tárgyaljuk a regulátoroknak az egyes virulencia faktorok expressziójára gyakorolt hatását. Az attenuálás olyan fontos virulencia funkciók kiesésére vezethető vissza, mint a haemolysin termelés, a tokantigén képzése, vagy a komplett "O" antigén szintézise. A származékok enterális kolonizáló képessége is csökken, ami a fenti gének szerepére utal abban, hogy az E. coli a kommenzális bélflóra részeként az extraintestinalis fertőzések forrásaként rezervoár szerepet töltsön be. A kutatások perspektivikusan vakcina jelölt származékok kifejlesztését eredményezhetik. | Investigations on the influence of global regulatory factors on Escherichia coli virulence have lead to the conclusion that leuX and rfaH (the latter also in the case of Salmonella enterica) play a pivotal role in pathogenic capacity. On the other hand knock out recA and lrhA mutants presented with equal virulence to the wild type. Effect of the regulators on the function of individual virulence factors is discussed: attenuation of virulence is due to downregulation of such important attributes like haemolysin production, capsule synthesis and expression of a complete 'O' antigen. Handicapped intestinal colonization capacity of the derivatives points to an important role for these regulators in sustaining the reservoir function of intestinal commensals as potential pathogens in subsequent extraintestinal manifestations. Our data imply a perspective for development of potential vaccine candidate derivatives

The switch to retirement cannot be reduced to a date that separates two disjointed periods of existence in a strict way. On one hand, this switch takes place on a certain duration of time, before and after the formal date when activity stops. One the other hand, retirement is the occasion to undertake activities, whether new ones or the prolongation of former ones, that spring from the individuals’anterior path. More precisely, this particular switch is an occasion to think again on the organisation of social temporalities, and to rearticulate activities in a new way : professional activities (for the ones who keep a job along their retirement) as well as family, artistic, leisure activities. A diversity of retirement paths can be derived from this constatation, as can be observed from the variety of activities that pensioners undertake. This diversity reflects a certain autonomy in the choices that actors make, but it also depends on the choices (« capabilites ») that they can actually reach. In this sense, this paper reviews the advantages and limits of an approach in terms of an « enabling environment », in order to account for the unequal distribution of the capabilities to grasp the opportunities of retirement. More precisely, an « enabling environment » is considered here as all the temporal frameworks for the individuals to build their life paths before retirement. In this sense, three temporal frameworks can be identified : the macro-economic policies, business (or sector) policies, and family biographies. Each of these three frameworks hosts tensions between rigid « accounting time » and more flexible « lived time ». Depending on what will come out of these tensions, individuals will or won’t be able to develop the capabilities to think about their temporal organisation and to invent « time for themselves » when they switch towards retirement
