Department of Biological SciencesBALOs are predatory bacteria attacking specific Gram-negative prey bacteria and have been studied about both their life itself and their possibility to be used as alternatives to antibiotics. One of most widely used strain is a Bdellovibirio bacteriovorus HD100. In this study, environmental factors affecting on competition between prey and predatory bacteria, cyanide, is studied. The results show cyanide can inhibit predation by BALO and how the cyanide effect on predation.ope

A universal bound on the variations of bounded convex functions

Given a convex set CC in a real vector space EE and two points x,yCx,y\in C, we investivate which are the possible values for the variation f(y)f(x)f(y)-f(x), where f:C[m,M]f:C\longrightarrow [m,M] is a bounded convex function. We then rewrite the bounds in terms of the Funk weak metric, which will imply that a bounded convex function is Lipschitz-continuous with respect to the Thompson and Hilbert metrics. The bounds are also proved to be optimal. We also exhibit the maximal subdifferential of a bounded convex function at a given point xCx\in C

Real aspects of the moduli space of genus zero stable maps

We show that the moduli space of genus zero stable maps is a real projective variety if the target space is a smooth convex real projective variety. We show that evaluation maps, forgetful maps are real morphisms. We analyze the real part of the moduli space.Comment: Vol 31, Issue 3(2007), Turkish Journal of Mathematics, p303-31

Choice Disjunctive Queries in Logic Programming

One of the long-standing research problems on logic programming is to treat the cut predicate in a logical, high-level way. We argue that this problem can be solved by adopting linear logic and choice-disjunctive goal formulas of the form G_0 \add G_1 where G0,G1G_0, G_1 are goals. These goals have the following intended semantics: choosechoose the true disjunct GiG_i and execute GiG_i where i(=0 or 1)i (= 0\ {\rm or}\ 1), while discardingdiscarding the unchosen disjunct. Note that only one goal can remain alive during execution. These goals thus allow us to specify mutually exclusive tasks in a high-level way.Comment: 8 pages.
