A general equilibrium evaluation of trade policy changes in Moldova Republic

Taking into account that the economy of Moldova is open to the international markets, it is necessary to study the macroeconomic actions of the country, that are expressed in the elaboration of structural changes in the trade policy, in the exchange rate, in the evaluation of its influence on the Moldavian producers and consumers, and on the income of the government budget. Sources of mercury in surface waters of the Upper Madeira erosive basins, Bolivia

The human activities impact on the mercury (Hg) distribution in the Amazon waters is still discussed but very few information regarding the Hg sources from the highly turbid Andean headwaters have been published. The annual load of suspended sediments eroded from the Bolivian Andes, averages 300 10(6) tons in the Beni river, of which till 97% is exported during the rainy season. At the edge of the Bolivian Andean piedmont, the total Hg concentration vary from 8 ng l(-1) during the dry season, to 1600 ng l(-1) during the high water period [1]. During this stage, it appears that the maximum concentrations of Hg associated with the fine particles and the highest Hg specific fluxes are observed in the rivers exploited for their alluvial gold during the last century. The black-shales series associated to the gold deposits are characterised by high natural Hg contents, which can be released in the hydrographic system by both chemical and physical weathering. But if we compare two clear water rivers characterised by the same suspended sediment concentrations, the maximum specific Hg flux varies between 126 kg km(-2)j(-1)' in the pristine river, to 590 kg km(-2)j(-1) in the river characterised by recent human activities

Mercury contamination of waters and soils is an environmental problem of increasing concern throughout the Amazon River baxin. In order to better understand the sources of Hg in a major tributary to the Amazon, a monthly time series spanning an entire hydrological cycle has been measured for two rivers of the Upper Madeira drainage basin. At both gauging stations, we observe a hydrological control on the temporal variability of the dissolved and the total mercury (THg) concentrations: they increase in phase with increasing discharge and we observe the highest THg concentrations at the peak stage. Mercury associated with particles represents more than 90% of the TH g in high-water period, and tends to decrease only slowly with falling river stage. This suggests that weathering processes are still active during this last stage. One of the principal factors controlling the distribution of Hg in Andean waters is apparently the process of soil erosion. (Résumé d'auteur

La contaminacion por mercurio de los rios constituye un problema cada vez mas preocupante en toda la cuenca amazonica. Este mercurio tiene origenes naturales como las emisiones volcanicas o termales, la disolucion de algunas rocas o la erosion de los suelos que, en esta zona del mundo, presentan concentraciones en metales pesados muy elevadas. El mercurio puede provenir tambien de las actividades de explotacion auriferas, cada vez mas numerosas en la Amazonia, region afectada por la "fiebre del oro" nuevamente en los anos 70.
