Municipal transitions: The social, energy, and spatial dynamics of sociotechnical change in South Tyrol, Italy
With the aim of proposing recommendations on how to use social and territorial specificities as levers for wider achievement of climate and energy targets at local level, this research analyses territories as sociotechnical systems. Defining the territory as a sociotechnical system allows us to underline the interrelations between space, energy and society. Groups of municipalities in a region can be identified with respect to their potential production of renewable energy by means of well-known data-mining approaches. Similar municipalities linking together can share ideas and promote collaborations, supporting clever social planning in the transition towards a new energy system. The methodology is applied to the South Tyrol case study (Italy). Results show eight different spatially-based sociotechnical systems within the coherent cultural and institutional context of South Tyrol. In particular, this paper observes eight different systems in terms of (1) different renewable energy source preferences in semi-urban and rural contexts; (2) different links with other local planning, management, and policy needs; (3) different socio-demographic specificities of individuals and families; (4) presence of different kinds of stakeholders or of (5) different socio-spatial organizations based on land cover. Each energy system has its own specificities and potentialities, including social and spatial dimensions, that can address a more balanced, inclusive, equal, and accelerated energy transition at the local and translocal scale
The Color-Octet intrinsic charm in and decays
Color-octet mechanism for the decay B\to \eta^\prime X is proposed to explain
the large branching ratio of Br(B\to \eta^\prime X)\sim 1\times 10^{-3}
recently announced by CLEO. We argue that the inclusive \eta^\prime production
in B decays may dominantly come from the Cabbibo favored b\to (\bar c c)_8s
process where \bar c c pair is in a color-octet configuration, and followed by
the nonperturbative transition (\bar c c)_8\to \eta^\prime X. The color-octet
intrinsic charm component in the higher Fock states of \eta^\prime is crucial
and is induced by the strong coupling of \eta^\prime to gluons via QCD axial

An update on Decays: Perturbative QCD versus Data
We present a global fit of current available experimental results on
decays within next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD. The quality and reduced
errors of recent data improve the agreement between theory and experiment.Comment: 10 pages, Late
Inclusive J/psi and psi(2S) Production from B Decay in p p-bar Collisions
Using information on B-meson fragmentation functions from CERN LEP 1 and
adopting the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism proposed by Bodwin,
Braaten, and Lepage, we predict the transverse-momentum distribution of J/psi
mesons originating from the inclusive decays of b hadrons produced in p p-bar
collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron. We determine the relevant colour-octet
charmonium matrix elements from fits to CDF data on prompt charmonium
hadroproduction and to CLEO data on charmonium production from B-meson decay.

The Decay in the Context of Chiral Perturbation Theory
We study the decay , using
chiral perturbation theory for heavy charmed mesons
and vector mesons, in the kinematic regime where (here or ) is much smaller than the chiral symmetry breaking
scale, ( 1 GeV). We present the
leading diagrams and amplitude, and calculate the rate, in the region where, to
leading order in our calculations, the is at zero recoil in the
rest frame. The rate thus calculated is given in terms of a known form
factor and depends on the coupling constant of the heavy
(charmed) meson chiral perturbation theory Lagrangian. A measurement of the
above decay, in the aforementioned kinematic regime, can result in the
extraction of an experimental value for , accurate at the level of our
approximations, and give us a measure of the validity of approaches based on

Semileptonic and nonleptonic B decays to three charm quarks: B->J/psi (eta_c) D l nu and J/psi (eta_c) D pi
We evaluate the form factors describing the semileptonic decays , within the framework of a QCD
relativistic potential model. This decay is complementary to in a phase space region where a pion factors out.We
estimate the branching ratio for these semileptonic and nonleptonic channels,
finding ,

QCD analysis of inclusive B decay into charmonium
We compute the decay rates and -energy distributions of mesons into
the final state , where can be any one of the -wave or -wave
charmonia, at next-to-leading order in the strong coupling. We find that a
significant fraction of the observed , and must be
produced through pairs in a colour octet state and should therefore
be accompanied by more than one light hadron. At the same time we obtain
stringent constraints on some of the long-distance parameters for colour octet

Semi-inclusive B Decays and Direct CP Violation in QCD Factorization
We have systematically investigated the semi-inclusive B decays B->MX, which
are manifestations of the quark decay b->Mq, within the framework of
QCD-improved factorization. These decays are theoretically clean and have
distinctive experimental signatures. We focus on a class of these that do not
require any form factor information and therefore may be especially suitable
for extracting information on the angles and of the unitarity
triangle. The nonfactorizable effects, such as vertex-type and penguin-type
corrections to the two-body b decay and hard spectator corrections to the
3-body decay are calculable in the heavy quark limit. QCD factorization is
applicable when the emitted meson is a light meson or a charmonium. We discuss
the issue of the CPT constraint on partial rate asymmetries. The strong phase
coming from final-state rescattering due to hard gluon exchange between the
final states can induce large rate asymmetries for tree-dominated
color-suppressed modes . The nonfactorizable
hard spectator interactions in the 3-body decay, though phase-space suppressed,
are extremely important for the tree-dominated modes
, and the
penguin-dominated mode . In fact, they are dominated by the
hard spectator corrections. Our result for is in
agreement with experiment. The semi-inclusive decay modes: , ,
and are the most promising ones in searching for
direct CP violation. In fact, they have branching ratios of order
and CP rate asymmetries of order .Comment: 28 page
Measurement of the Inclusive Semi-electronic Branching Fraction
Using the angular correlation between the emitted in a decay and the emitted in the subsequent decay, we have measured the branching fraction for the
inclusive semi-electronic decay of the meson to be: {\cal B}(D^0
\rightarrow X e^+ \nu) = [6.64 \pm 0.18 (stat.) \pm 0.29 (syst.)] \%. The
result is based on 1.7 fb of collisions recorded by the CLEO II
detector located at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). Combining the
analysis presented in this paper with previous CLEO results we find,
\frac{{\cal B} (D^0 \rightarrow X e^+ \nu)}
{{\cal B} (D^0 \rightarrow K^- \pi^+)}
= 1.684 \pm 0.056 (stat.) \pm 0.093(syst.) and
\frac{{\cal B}(D\rightarrow K^-e^+\nu)}
{{\cal B}(D\rightarrow Xe^+\nu)}
= 0.581 \pm 0.023 (stat.) \pm 0.028(syst.).
The difference between the inclusive rate and the sum of the measured

Observation of a New Charmed Strange Meson
Using the CLEO-II detector, we have obtained evidence for a new meson
decaying to . Its mass is
{}~MeV/ and its width is ~MeV/. Although we do not
establish its spin and parity, the new meson is consistent with predictions for
