Example-based super-resolution for point-cloud video
We propose a mixed-resolution point-cloud representation and an example-based
super-resolution framework, from which several processing tools can be derived,
such as compression, denoising and error concealment. By inferring the
high-frequency content of low-resolution frames based on the similarities
between adjacent full-resolution frames, the proposed framework achieves an
average 1.18 dB gain over low-pass versions of the point-cloud, for a
projection-based distortion metric[1-2].Comment: This paper was submitted to ICIP-2018 and its copyright may be

Ejercicio físico y estilo de vida sedentario: consecuencias para la salud
Perhaps the greatest barriers for achieving major advances in public health in the twenty-first century result from the paralysis of the pandemic paradigm or from the widespread inability to envision alternative or new models of thought. Human movement represents a complex behavior that is influenced by personal motivation, health and mobility problems, genetic factors, and social and physical environments in which people live. These factors
influence the propensity to engage in sedentary behaviors or in physical activity. However, the biological, social,
and environmental pathways leading to sedentary behavior versus physical activity may be different. In addition, the health effects associated with sedentary behavior and physical activity may be the result of different biological mechanisms. Thus, our objective was to discuss the importance of physical exercise on health-related outcomes and the consequences of sedentary lifestyles. Research on sedentary behavior has been growing;however, the evidence for its determinants is relatively sparse. More studies are needed to obtain more conclusive results because it is fundamental to understand these complex relationships related to the practice and the acquisition of active and healthy lifestyles as opposed to a sedentary lifestyle.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A transsignaling strategy for QoS support in heterogeneous networks
The increasing usage of multiple signalling mechanisms, with associated QoS extensions, creates several problems to commercial data networks. New and scalable approaches are required for the network operator to support this diversity. This paper discusses a highly flexible, scalable architecture for processing QoS Admission Control in public networks. The architecture relies on the cooperation of two different entities, an agent and a manager, with fully distributed implementation, and able to perform the required signalling, authorization, and admission control decisions. If required, the agent is capable of interfacing with different signalling mechanisms. Early implementation conclusions are also presented. This architecture is capable of operating with multiple QoS frameworks, with minimal added overhead
Role-based access control mechanisms: distributed, statically implemented and driven by CRUD expressions
Most of the security threats in relational database applications have their source in client-side systems when they issue requests formalized by Create, Read, Update and Delete (CRUD) expressions. If tools such as ODBC and JDBC are used to develop business logics, then there is another source of threats. In some situations the content of data sets retrieved by Select expressions can be modified and then committed into the host databases. These tools are agnostic regarding not only database schemas but also regarding the established access control policies. This situation can hardly be mastered by programmers of business logics in database applications with many and complex access control policies. To overcome this gap, we extend the basic Role-Based Access policy to support and supervise the two sources of security threats. This extension is then used to design the correspondent RBAC model. Finally, we present a software architectural model from which static RBAC mechanisms are automatically built, this way relieving programmers from mastering any schema. We demonstrate empirical evidence of the effectiveness of our proposal from a use case based on Java and JDBC

An ideal IoT solution for real-time web monitoring
For the internet of things (IoT) to fully emerge, it is necessary to design a suitable system architecture and specific protocols for this environment. The former to provide horizontal solutions, breaking away the current paradigm of silos solutions, and thus, allowing the creation of open and interoperable systems; while the latter will offer efficient and scalable communications. This paper presents the latest standards and ongoing efforts to develop specific protocols for IoT. Furthermore, this paper presents a new system, with the most recent standards for IoT. Its design, implementation and evaluation will be also described. The proposed system is based on the latest ETSI M2M specification (ETSI TC M2M in ETSI TS 103 093 V2.1.1.http://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi_ts/103000_103099/103093/02.01.01_60/ts_103093v020101p.pdf, 2013b) and the MQTT protocol (IBM, Eurotech in MQTT V3.1 Protocol Specification pp 1-42, http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/dw/webservices/ws-mqtt/MQTT_V3.1_Protocol_Specific. pdf, 2010). With this solution it is possible to show how we can create new applications to run over it and the importance of designing specifically tailored for IoT communication protocols in order to support real-time applications.- This project was funded by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), by Programa Operacional Factores de Competitividade (POFC) - COMPETE and by Fundacao para a Ciencia eTecnologia, on the Scope of projects: PEstC/EEI/UI0319/2015 and PEstC/EEI/UI0027/2015.
