Economical comparison of CHP systems for industrial user with large steam demand
In this paper cogeneration benefits applied to a user with a high steam demand are analyzed. The methodology for the feasibility study and the economical analysis of the investment is presented under the Italian legislative framework. The methodology is applied to an actual case and a detailed description and discussion of all data input is provided. Especially this last key point will be faced using starting data usually available in these kind of studies (i.e., not very detailed for thermal consumption). Finally a comparison of different CHP technologies and a sensitivity analysis is done
Use of weaning concentrate in the feeding suckling kids: effects on meat quality
The effect of a feeding supplementation with starter concentrate on “Capretto” meat production and its qualitative characteristics was investigated. The results showed that the effect of concentrate supplementation did not influence the slaughter weight, slaughter and dissection data, tissue composition and meat chemical composition of the pelvic limb. No differences were found for rheological characteristics of LD meat, except cohesiveness values, which were higher in the concentrate group kids
Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Ledderhose Disease: A Case Report
Ledderhose disease is disorder of the plantar aponeurosis. This disease is not so common and can be tackled with a surgical or conservative approach. A case of a 73-year-old man came to our attention who had a 26-year history of painless bilateral plantar nodules coalescing into an indurated mass. An ulcerative nodule had been noted in the last 16 months on the right foot, in the absence of trauma, not responsive to conservative treatment, so we decided to perform a biopsy. The histopatologic examination showed squamous cell carcinoma, with warty, well-differentiated, low-grade malignancy. Surgical treatment was suggested, so, in pneumoischemia, we made a surgical incision including the skin lesion. Then we proceeded to sculpture the anterolateral thigh fasciacutaneous flap to obtain adequate soft tissue coverage. The tumor was completely removed. Current reconstructive possibilities comprise a good anatomofunctional recovery even in the case of large demolition requests for the therapy of advanced cases of the disease described in this article. Correlation between Ledderhose disease and the formation of malignant tumors has not been made as yet, but perhaps an element that could unite these pathologies can be researched in the lively cell proliferation that characterizes both. It would be interesting to analyze the biological substrate, as well as the systemic and local levels, in patients where both diseases are manifested

High-performance magnetic shielding solution for extremely low frequency (ELF) sources
Some particular aspects related to open shields with high performance are presented. The magnetic flux density targets related to the protection of sensitive devices are quite low, <0.2 µT. The problem to reach high magnetic field attenuation is more complicated by the fact that open shields have to be adopted instead of closed solutions. After some general considerations about open shields two practical examples are presented and discussed
RELAZIONE TRA HANDGRIP E FAMILIARITÀ AL DIABETE DI TIPO 2: UNO STUDIO PILOTA/ RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TYPE 2 DIABETES AND HANDGRIP: RESULTS OF A PILOT STUDY
attraverso correlazioni parametriche abbiamo verificato eventuali
associazioni (Pearson).
Objectives: the purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship
between family history to type 2 diabetes, anthropometrics characteristics
and some fitness tests.
Materials and methods: we randomly selected 88 men and 27 women,
distinguishing on FH- (absence of family history to type 2 diabetes), on FH+
(with a familiar component with disease) and FH++ (with parent affected to
diabetes). We recorded anthropometric parameters, basal blood pressure
values and handgrip of both hands. The differences between the groups were
analyzed with ANOVA test and Pearson’s correlation.
Results: participants FH++ of both sexes showed a statistically significant
increase of body mass index (p<0,05) and a significant increase of basal
diastolic blood pressure (p<0,05). No family history-related differences were
found on handgrip results in absolute and relative values, but the lower
numbers of subgroups might have affected the statistical analysis.
Correlation analysis showed that parameters like body weight, body mass
index and body surface area are able to influence the handgrip test of both
hands.
Conclusion: family history to type 2 diabetes is strongly related to body
weight and basal blood pressure values, confirming that FH++ participants
have a major risk to develop disease compared to FH- participants. Handgrip
test is strongly related to anthropometric parameters. The sample size
represents the major limit of the study. More data are needed to confirm the
association between variables
Hypertension and hand-foot skin reactions related to VEGFR2 genotype and improved clinical outcome following bevacizumab and sorafenib
BACKGROUND: Hypertension (HT) and hand-foot skin reactions (HFSR) may be related to the activity of bevacizumab and sorafenib. We hypothesized that these toxicities would correspond to favorable outcome in these drugs, that HT and HFSR would coincide, and that VEGFR2 genotypic variation would be related to toxicity and clinical outcomes. METHODS: Toxicities (≥ grade 2 HT or HFSR), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) following treatment initiation were evaluated. Toxicity incidence and VEGFR2 H472Q and V297I status were compared to clinical outcomes. RESULTS: Individuals experiencing HT had longer PFS following bevacizumab therapy than those without this toxicity in trials utilizing bevacizumab in patients with prostate cancer (31.5 vs 14.9 months, n = 60, P = 0.0009), and bevacizumab and sorafenib in patients with solid tumors (11.9 vs. 3.7 months, n = 27, P = 0.052). HT was also linked to a > 5-fold OS benefit after sorafenib and bevacizumab cotherapy (5.7 versus 29.0 months, P = 0.0068). HFSR was a marker for prolonged PFS during sorafenib therapy (6.1 versus 3.7 months respectively, n = 113, P = 0.0003). HT was a risk factor for HFSR in patients treated with bevacizumab and/or sorafenib (OR(95%CI) = 3.2(1.5-6.8), P = 0.0024). Carriers of variant alleles at VEGFR2 H472Q experienced greater risk of developing HT (OR(95%CI) = 2.3(1.2 - 4.6), n = 170, P = 0.0154) and HFSR (OR(95%CI) = 2.7(1.3 - 5.6), n = 170, P = 0.0136). CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that HT and HFSR may be markers for favorable clinical outcome, HT development may be a marker for HFSR, and VEGFR2 alleles may be related to the development of toxicities during therapy with bevacizumab and/or sorafenib
A proposal for performance evaluation of low frequency shielding efficiency
The present work aims to propose a methodology for evaluating the performance of low-frequency magnetic shields used for the shielding of complex sources such as MV/LV substations. Today there is no standard procedure for testing shields based on the use of a single-coil for generating artificial MF (MF: Magnetic Field) as is the case for high-frequency anechoic chambers. In the case of shielding for industrial frequency sources, these are generally open shields with sources of various types: 3D transformers, switch-gear, and power lines. These kinds of sources and shields are better checked if the artificial MF has all three components in space. The work proposes a methodology based on the use of a tri-axial source, capable of generating a rotating magnetic field. The supports of the coils are made using a 3D printing process. The paper presents the design steps, the analytical evaluation of the performance of the source and as an application a test of a magnetic shielding plate was presented
