    Get PDF
A banana was rank 4th as food consumed by the world community after rice, wheat, and corn. Identification and characterization were important steps to explore the potential and important value of this plant. This study aims to obtain the kinship profile of banana germplasm in Bandarlampung City based on the number of chromosomes and their genome types. Characterization of banana accession is done by observing the morphological characteristics referring to 15 characters from Simmonds and Shepherd with the expected score of genomic determinants modified by Silayoi and Camchalow. The results of dendrogram analysis showed that on a scale of 20-23 obtained 2 groups of banana accessions. The first group consisted of 7 accessions of bananas, namely Kepok Kapas, Kepok Manado, Kepok Kuning, Rabig, Kepok Batu, Raja Sajen, and Pisang Batu. The second group consisted of 15 accessions, namely Kepok Abu, Horn, Thousand, Janten, Mas Kuning, Mas, Muli, Rejang, Ambon Lumut, Papan, Cavendish, Ambon Kuning, Morosebo, Rajah Sereh, and Raja Nangka. Whereas 4 accessions, namely Ambon Australia, Kepok Lebanon, Kidang and Raja Bakar, could not be analyzed for their kinship because the data collection of the banana generative phase had passed or had not yet entered the generative phase. Whereas 1 accession, namely Musa ornate, is believed to be included in the Rhodhoclamys section so that the genome type cannot be determined. Based on group analysis obtained 2 large groups at a scale distance of 20-23. At a smaller scale distance of 10 obtained a subgroup with a large number of members

Born's rule from measurements of classical signals by threshold detectors which are properly calibrated

The very old problem of the statistical content of quantum mechanics (QM) is studied in a novel framework. The Born's rule (one of the basic postulates of QM) is derived from theory of classical random signals. We present a measurement scheme which transforms continuous signals into discrete clicks and reproduces the Born's rule. This is the sheme of threshold type detection. Calibration of detectors plays a crucial role.Comment: The problem of double clicks is resolved; hence, one can proceed in purely wave framework, i.e., the wave-partcile duality has been resolved in favor of the wave picture of prequantum realit

Two new detectors are currently under construction at the Homestake Gold Mine a 140-ton Large Area Scintillation Detector (LASD) with an upper surface area of 130 square meters, a geometry factor (for an isotropic flux) of 1200 square meters, sr, and a depth of 4200 m.w.e.; and a surface air shower array consisting of 100 scintillator elements, each 3 square meters, spanning an area of approximately square kilometers. Underground, half of the LASD is currently running and collecting muon data; on the surface, the first section of the air shower array will begin operation in the spring of 1985. The detectors and their capabilities are described

We report on observations of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A in the energy range from 100 MeV to 100 GeV using 44 months of observations from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope. We perform a detailed spectral analysis of this source and report on a low-energy break in the spectrum at 1.720.89+1.351.72^{+1.35}_{-0.89} GeV. By comparing the results with models for the gamma-ray emission, we find that hadronic emission is preferred for the GeV energy range.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables, to be published in Ap

    Apparent Superluminal Behavior

    Get PDF
The apparent superluminal propagation of electromagnetic signals seen in recent experiments is shown to be the result of simple and robust properties of relativistic field equations. Although the wave front of a signal passing through a classically forbidden region can never move faster than light, an attenuated replica of the signal is reproduced ``instantaneously'' on the other side of the barrier. The reconstructed signal, causally connected to the forerunner rather than the bulk of the input signal, appears to move through the barrier faster than light.Comment: 8 pages, no figure

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of water extract of pineapple shell in the process of browning apple manalagi (Malus sylvestris Mill). The research was conducted from October to November 2016 in the Laboratory of Plant Physiology Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Lampung. As variables were browning index, total soluble carbohydrate content, dehydrogenase enzyme activity, and reducing sugar levels, while the parameter is the mean of all variables. The experiment was conducted in completely randomizes design. The main factor was the water extract of the pineapple shell with 5 concentration levels: 0% v / v, 25% v / v, 50% v / v, 75% v / v, 100% v / v. Levene test, analysis of variance and LSD test was carried out at 5% significance level. The results showed that the water extract pineapple shell was significantly lower the browning index of apples manalagi, and the relationship between the concentration and browning index is quadratic (y = 9E-05x2 - 0.013x + 1.018 R² = 0665). Extract of pineapple shell did not significantly affect total soluble carbohydrate content of apples manalagi but a downward trend in total soluble carbohydrate content with increasing concentrations of the extract (y = -0.049x + 29.66 R² = 0.923). The relationship between the concentration of water extract pineapple shell with dehydrogenase enzyme activity was negative linear (y = -0.082x + 12.04 R² = 0.969). Reducing sugar levels increase at the concentration of 50% v/v,75% v/v, and 100% v/v. The final conclusion was that the water extract of pineapple shell was potential as anti-browning agent for apples manalagi because it was able to reduce browning index 51.89%, and influence other physiological processes

The aim of this experiment was to determine the effect of the addition of ash and sand-compost proportion in the media on the growth of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.). Theexperiment was conducted on December 2015 to January 2016 in the Botanical Laboratory,Biology Department, Faculty of Mathematic and Natural Science, Lampung University, andwas conducted in a complete randomized design by using two treatments. The first treatmentwas the addition of ash in two equivalents (with and without ash), the second treatment wasthe addition of sand-compost proportion in four equivalents (2 kg of sand, 1¾ kg of sand +¼ kg of compost, 1½ kg of sand + ½ kg of compost, 1¼ kg of sand + ¾ kg of compost). Theobserved variables of the growth were the number of the roots, the crown\u27s length, the wetweight, and the dry weight. The number of the roots was determined by observing thenumber of the roots present at the base of the stalk of each plants. The length of the crown(cm) was determined by measuring it from the stalk\u27s base to the edge of the longest leaf. The wet weight (g) was determined by measuring the whole part of the plant using ananalytical balance. The dry weight (g) was measured after the plants were stored in an ovenfor three hours in the temperature of 70o-80oC. The result showed that the best growth wasobtained from the media with the sand equivalent of 1¼ kg of sand added with ¾ kg ofcompost without ash
