A Manual of Expected Milestones in Childhood and Occupation-Based Interventions

    Get PDF
The purpose of this scholarly project was to develop a manual for parents of children ages birth to five years. The manual includes significant milestones and provides age-appropriate activities which can be used to facilitate development. A literature review was conducted to identify how play is used to achieve developmental milestones. Resources included journal articles and textbooks from the disciplines of occupational therapy, psychology, education, and medicine. A manual for parents was created and consists of a discussion on the importance of play in development, expected milestones, occupation-based interventions, and resources regarding child development. This manual is intended for distribution to parents at a group educational seminar lead by an occupational therapist. The components of this manual are guided by the Ecology of Human Performance Model. Child development can be optimized through the use of play activities to develop physical, social, emotional, and cognitive skills. Experiences in early childhood can hinder-or enhance developmental achievement later in life. The parent-manual product of this project will provide developmentally-appropriate occupation-based activities which can be incorporated into daily routines for children ages birth to five years

The excellent soft magnetic properties of most ferromagnetic amorphous alloys establish them as potential candidates for many soft magnetic applications. However, thermal instability is a major factor limiting actual use of these alloys. Magnetic properties, such as μ and Hc, of amorphous alloys change irreversibly when heated to temperatures well below this crystallization temperature (Tx). This annealing behavior must be understood and controlled for successful applications.</jats:p

Estimation of Interfacial Energies Based on the Shapes of Coherent Intragranular Precipitates

In a study of the precipitation and aging of Invar particles in Cu, we observed that the particles evolved from spherical to cuboidal as they grew in size. This behavior has been observed in other systems, and predicted by Voorhees et al. ; they showed that the precise shape of the particle is a balance between elastic anisotropy and surface energy. The correlation between our results and their predictions are very good. It is the purpose of this note to point out that simultaneous measurements of size, shape, and mismatch of a coherent particle can be used to estimate the interfacial energy under favorable conditions.Ternary alloys consisting of Cu - 12.8 wt% Ni -7.2 wt% Fe were arc-melted, held at 1030°C to develop extended regions of the Cu-rich solid solution, quenched, then aged at various times and temperatures to develop FCC precipitates near the Invar composition in the FCC Cu matrix.</jats:p
