Instrumentation of a high-sensitivity microwave vector detection system for low-temperature applications
We present the design and the circuit details of a high-sensitivity microwave
vector detection system, which is aiming for studying the low-dimensional
electron system embedded in the slots of a coplanar waveguide at low
temperatures. The coplanar waveguide sample is placed inside a phase-locked
loop; the phase change of the sample may cause a corresponding change in the
operation frequency, which can be measured precisely. We also employ a
double-pulse modulation on the microwave signals, which comprises a fast pulse
modulation for gated averaging and a slow pulse modulation for lock-in
detection. In measurements on real samples at low temperatures, this system
provides much better resolutions in both amplitude and phase than most of the
conventional vector analyzers at power levels below -65 dBm.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures, 1 table, lette
Statistical analysis of low level atmospheric turbulence
The statistical properties of low-level wind-turbulence data were obtained with the model 1080 total vector anemometer and the model 1296 dual split-film anemometer, both manufactured by Thermo Systems Incorporated. The data obtained from the above fast-response probes were compared with the results obtained from a pair of Gill propeller anemometers. The digitized time series representing the three velocity components and the temperature were each divided into a number of blocks, the length of which depended on the lowest frequency of interest and also on the storage capacity of the available computer. A moving-average and differencing high-pass filter was used to remove the trend and the low frequency components in the time series. The calculated results for each of the anemometers used are represented in graphical or tabulated form
(2317) meson production at RHIC
Production of (2317) mesons in relativistic heavy ion collisions at
RHIC is studied. Using the quark coalescence model, we first determine the
initial number of (2317) mesons produced during hadronization of
created quark-gluon plasma. The predicted (2317) abundance depends
sensitively on the quark structure of the (2317) meson. An
order-of-magnitude larger yield is obtained for a conventional two-quark than
for an exotic four-quark (2317) meson. To include the hadronic effect
on the (2317) meson yield, we have evaluated the absorption cross
sections of the (2317) meson by pion, rho, anti-kaon, and vector
anti-kaon in a phenomenological hadronic model. Taking into consideration the
absorption and production of (2317) mesons during the hadronic stage of
heavy ion collisions via a kinetic model, we find that the final yield of
(2317) mesons remains sensitive to its initial number produced from the
quark-gluon plasma, providing thus the possibility of studying the quark
structure of the (2317) meson and its production mechanism in
relativistic heavy ion collisions.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure
Possible Exotic State
We study the possible exotic states with using the
tetraquark interpolating currents with the QCD sum rule approach. The extracted
masses are around 4.85 GeV for the charmonium-like states and 11.25 GeV for the
bottomomium-like states. There is no working region for the light tetraquark
currents, which implies the light state may not exist below 2 GeV.Comment: 13 pages, 11 figures, 2 table
Characterizing Short Necklace States in Logarithmic Transmission Spectrum of Strongly Localized Systems
High transmission plateaus exist widely in the logarithmic transmission
spectra of localized systems. Their physical origins are short chains of
coupled-localized-states embedded inside the localized system, which are dubbed
as "short necklace states". In this work, we define the essential quantities
and then, based on these quantities, we investigate the short necklace states'
properties statistically and quantitatively. Two different approaches are
utilized and the results from them agree with each other very well. In the
first approach, the typical plateau-width and the typical order of short
necklace states are obtained from the correlation function of logarithmic
transmission. In the second approach, we investigate statistical distributions
of the peak/plateau-width measured in logarithmic transmission spectra. A novel
distribution is found, which can be exactly fitted by the summation of two
Gaussian distributions. These two distributions are the results of sharp peaks
of localized states and the high plateaus of short necklace states. The center
of the second distribution also tells us the typical plateau-width of short
necklace states. With increasing the system length, the scaling property of
typical plateau-width is very special since it almost does not decrease. The
methods and the quantities defined in this work can be widely used on Anderson
localization studies.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
